This is a wonderful presentation on one of my favorite artists! It breaks my heart that he has not had the respect and recognition that I think he deserves. Thank you. ❤️

The Mucha Museum in Prague has been open to the public since 1998; no appointment is necessary. The panels of The Slav Epic have been on view in the main building of the National Gallery in Prague since 2012.

You can see the Slavic Epic in a town called Moravský Krumlov in Moravia, Czech republic. It is breathtaking and grandiose (I recommend to have a guide to get explaine all the hidden tings in tis big pictures.) It is stunning!

Thank you for this! Mucha is my favorite artist. I shed a few tears hearing that some of his work was destroyed, but am happy to know that his legacy lives on in others who appreciate his work.

Alphonse's son's autobiography all but saved my life. Does anybody know what happened to the older Mucha's work? I'm interested in the larger paintings. I think Jiri wrote one book that promoted his father's work. --Anyway, great lecture; thanks for!

Thank you for the history lesson on Mucha. A limited edition 1 oz silver collector coin series on Mucha brought me here. I've seen his work around but never knew who he was until I came across the coins and started to research Mucha. The coins are stunning and his artwork is amazing.

I appreciate this upload. Thank you for bringing humanity and reality to the artists life. Too often they are idealized as more than human. To all the artists - Value your work no matter what part of your journey you are in.

Note: The situation is dramatically changing these days. The recognition of Mucha is much much bigger then 10 years ago. New galleries are being made within the Czech Republic. The whole castle is being renovated to make an decent place to exhibit the Slav Epic. New books, cinema projects, modern technology using projections, comics. All these small merch... Mucha is VERY popular in Czech republic these days... Finally

I see that this was recorded on 2015, but I recall going to a collective Alphonse Mucha exhibition in South Korea in 2013. It was amazing - maybe his works aren't as difficult and neglected as it sounds, or maybe the exhibition was a very special occasion. He's quite well known now!

Actually, the interest in Mucha is increasing more and more recently. It is also thanks to the art community on the internet because there the art can be copied and spread freely and without high cost. His works are getting increasingly more appreciated in his homeland and in the world as they are getting more accessible. In truth he has always been well known and appreciated by Czechs. My Mum and Grandma have always loved his art and his paintings are fashionable all over the Czechia. They make clothes, fabric, ceramics and all kinds of home accessories inspired by him. Only the financial and also political situation is the cause for not installing his Slav Epic in the museum. The government cannot afford such task now when there are social needs that need finance, and such will always have priority before art. There is will, but not means, because in the country there is no historical building currently available that is big enough to accomodate the paintings in a way that Mucha himself wanted them to be exhibited. Not even national museum has enough space, because the size they need for permanent exposition is enormous. Mucha intended the paintings for a new building specifically designed for them but such a project is very difficult to build. They are exhibited in a regional museum now butnthe debate about them still goes on.

Thank you so much for sharing this Hudson Library. I loved every second of it and greatly appreciate you syncing the audio from the questions like you did. Kinda heart breaking Alphonse never got the love and respect I feel he deserved, but it sounds like he made the most out of it all and stayed true to himself throughout. My only complaint would be not mentioning his joining the Freemason's, that would have been cool. Aside from that Felicia did a perfect job, thank you again.

I was born in the same small town as A. Mucha and would like to inform you that you mispronounce both his surname and the name of the town. The "ch" in Mucha is pronounced totally different and Ivančice is something like "ee-one-tchi-tze".
