Hue Dimmer Switch V2 vs Smart Button [Buyer's Guide]
The Hue Dummer Switch V2 and the Hue Smart Button are both fantastic, low-cost accessories that can be easily added to your Hue setup. They're also both very similar, whilst being quite different. So which one should you buy? In this video, I'll put the two side-by-side, and see if I can help you make that decision!

Let me start with the fact that your videos are fantastic. Now I hope I’m not overstepping but wanted to give you a piece of advice that I see works with others as a consumer of videos. The quality of your videos and the content you have should have you at thousands of views if not more. Your thumbnails need to change. Try taking a screenshot of one of the frames where you’re holding the item reviewed with that amazing colored background and setting it as the thumbnail. You’re videos are too good to be missed and I hope you don’t mind the advice. No pro myself by any means but hope this will be of help.

Thanks so much for taking the time to give constructive feedback! I totally confess that thumbnails are NOT my strongpoint, and I'm still experimenting with different things. I'll take your advice onboard though and see if I can find something that works better, at the end of the day I want to get as many eyes on my videos as I can!

Just had to say, this was a fantastic video - like others have said well deserving of more views. Informative, well produced with professional voice over and focused talking points. I think the only thing I would have liked additionally was demonstrations of the two in action but that's not a big deal. Thanks!

Thank you so much, that's really kind of you to say so! I take your feedback on board re demonstrating the products a bit more. We're in temporary accommodation at the moment, but move into our new house early September. I'm going to be kitting it out as a smart home as much as possible, and plan to make a lot of content about it, where I do plan to go pretty in-depth in terms of demonstrations/hands-on etc.

If you use the dimmer in home kit; you can set the up and down buttons to change the temperature of your room if you have smart radiators.
@ProperHonestTech
@ProperHonestTech 2 жыл бұрын
That's good to know. I've just bought the Hue Motion Sensor which has a temperature sensor built in that you can access via HomeKit, so that combined with a Dimmer Switch and a smart radiator could be a pretty low-cost and powerful smart home function!

@@ProperHonestTech UPDATE: So the smart button also will screw over a UK light socket/box, just. HOWEVER, annoyingly, the backplate size/style is different to the V2 dimmer backplace, so they do not sit next to each other well (eg: different width and "PHILIPS" in different colours). If only the smart button had an option to come with a backplate in the same size/style as the V2 dimmer...

I believe that even in the Home app, you can assign a 'press and hold' function as well as just a press, but it's definitely more limited than the Dimmer Switch.

Great video. question, it says that the dimmer switch v2 can control a max of 10 lights, is that correct? I need something to control all of the lights in my living room, but only as 1 unit, named "Living room". it contains of 13 lights in total, do you know if it would be able to control all of those lights together, as long as they are in the same group?

Hi, great review. I have one question...Can I connect/pair three Hue Dimmer Switches to one Philips E27 led bulb? so I can turn on and off the bulb with either of those three switches. thank you in advance
@ProperHonestTech
@ProperHonestTech 2 жыл бұрын
I believe you can, yes, although I've not done it. Accessories like this don't pair exclusively to any particular light, they just control whatever light/zone you pair them to. In much the same way that if 4 of you live in a house and all have the Hue app, you can all control the same set of lights. I'm 99% sure you'll be fine to do what you want do here.
@Schroeddddr
@Schroeddddr 2 жыл бұрын
You can pair any kind/amount of switch to any lights, really. I paired my two external lights (White ambiance) to two different dimmers inside the house, so I can control them from a hallway (dimmer 1) or right by the main door (dimmer 2), it works perfectly fine :)

Still don’t get the difference lol. So basically the button has no dimming control?
@ProperHonestTech
@ProperHonestTech 3 жыл бұрын
Aside from size and design, the button has only one method of interacting with it, and limited functions. Which some people might like if they wish to use it in an area of their home where they want to restrict what the button can do. The Dimmer Switch can do more.
@robdevent6080

The button can also dim and switch scenes so the functions are basically the same
@ProperHonestTech
@ProperHonestTech 3 жыл бұрын
This is true, although I think the functionality is clearer/easier to understand on the Dimmer Switch than the Smart Button, so one is perhaps better for rooms where you know people who are unfamiliar with Hue will be interacting with the lights.
@robdevent6080
@robdevent6080 3 жыл бұрын
True, the switch clearly has 4 individual switches, so with clever programming has 4 times more possible functions and options if hue wil allow it. Regrettably Hue functions are limited.

We're moving house a week from now, so my Hue setup is currently in storage. I can't therefore test this specific function right now. I'll come back and reply again once it's setup at the new place, or in the meantime, another owner might be able to answer your question.

@@ProperHonestTech Thanks, can't believe I had to look so long for an answer to this question, it totally looks like a dial, any guests would assume it is. It would be much more pleasing to turn a knob rather than holding down buttons for dimming. I really hope they will release one which you can turn like a dial, this one seems pretty useless to me.

@@lgab Check out the Lutron Aurora! I just got 4 of them and they work a great dual function. They fit over existing light switches and lock them in the on position so guests don't accidentally turn off your hue lights. And they're a button with a dial for dimming. They're a friends of hue accessory so it's very easy to set them up in the app. Loving them so far.
