I remember seeing this. Letterman said they did not have the budget for The News and could only afford Huey!

You could tell Johnny was having a great time. And why not? the band was huge in the mid 80s and the album Sports was a massive hit. Great days from forty years ago in time

@surfocaster This is when Letterman's was fun to watch. It was more "underground" looking. Great memories.

Listened to an hour and a half concert. Next day heard him on the radio in the store I was shopping at. I started dancing and snapping my fingers. Lady said "having a good time?" Yes and I told her the story. Cant his songs out of my head..Putting on other songs to try not helping ..ah! :))) lol I have to buy his records now

I grew up in the '70s and eighties and graduated from high school in the mid 80s and I was always in the death core hard Rock slam dancing beating the s*** out of people but as I got older he released as a badass I like listening to him now it only took me 55 years to figure that out

Great time in the era of Dave, his show was much less hollywood, with a small tight professional band, Paul as creepy and spiderlike as always, and with the cameras right in front of the cameras...Love Dave he became the favorite uncle that always comes for Christmas dinner, tells funny jokes, farts at the table, and then smiles and leaves...Dave actually turned into Johnny Carson with the, well nothing is on lets watch Dave...sad to see he is retiring I guess Paul is getting his resume ready..lol

I saw Huey Lewis in 1984 and Stevie Ray Vaughan was backing him up at the Zoo Amphitheater in Oklahoma City . On this appearance Huey only has 1 other member from his band.. the saxophonist and backup singer.. and that member used to be in a band called Rubicon with Brad Gillis and Jack Blades ... When Rubicon split up John formed the band with Huey Lewis and Brad Gillis and Jack Blades formed Night Ranger .. Rubicon was a total funk band look them up at the California Jam in 1978 . That was the first time I seen Stevie Ray Vaughan I saw him three times total 1984 and 1986 and 1989

Interesting that the only band member from the News here is Johnny Colla on sax. Great job by the house band though.
@tommy416266167010 жыл бұрын
Notice that not one of David's band members even looked at Johnny Cola the sax player from Huey's band, the bass player looked totally high, but didn't even look Johnny's way to say good gig man, the guy just put his arm up to thank the fans, ...so what happened, why did everyone snub Johnny, expect Dave????

Johnny Dangerfield........ He gets no respect..
@JohnJohn-ir5hw6 жыл бұрын
Sadly, I'm reading these comments on a Saturday night... curiously, you are correct! Moreover, Will Lee (the bass player) seemed hell bent on wrecking the groove of the song! STEVE JORDAN busted his brains and ass to SAVE THE GROOVE! And!!!!!!!!!! the SAX player gave the BEST performance along with Steve. Yes, I notice what you mention... if I had a life I probably wouldn't have.
@donnaodonnell2906 жыл бұрын
It was Johnny
@VultCult6 жыл бұрын
I hear ya. Johnny played great. The other guys on stage sounded pretty good too, but yeah that bass player was really out there. Sucks when there's always one who tries to fuck with things for everyone else - intentionally or otherwise. Actually I'm kind of wondering why the whole band wasn't up there, as opposed to just Huey and Johnny?
@MrNamePerson5 жыл бұрын
Are you kidding? The cameras weren't on the band but for a second or two.. so how would you know? Johnny played great, he played it almost note for note from the album solo, which everyone there had heard a gazillion times. Even Huey wasn't looking when the camera was on him. Will Lee would never have been on Letterman for so long if he weren't a monster.. which he is. Wrecking the groove? No. Reading the chart? Yes.

Surprise. The News are a tighter band, especially the drummer. So this doesn´t groove as well as the original.
@MrNamePerson5 жыл бұрын
The News played together forever.. The Letterman band probably went through the song once.. what would you expect? Still a really good performance buy amazing fun-loving players who get paid to be great night after night on all kinds of music, with virtually no practice.
@TheCountofToulouse Жыл бұрын
Dude, that band is heinous. They're playing behind the beat and about 8 bpm too slow. All the kick is sucked out of the song.
