Hey Phly so in short the XM552 round was designed to have a specific spin rate that optimized the penetration at 1,000 meters with steep drop offs below and above those distances. I know this bc I stayed at a Holiday Inn last year

To find the penetration of the round, you can go into the Protection Analysis and find the round for the 30mm (it describes it for each individual belt/shell for all ammo types)

the XM30 gun system was a early version of the gun that the apache uses. they fire pretty much the same ammo, a HEDP round with about 50-60mm penetration

I'm sure you have gotten a ton of people saying it before, but 100% collective can in many instances be worse than around 75 to 85 percent. At those rates, you can get a much higher rpm like 105 and in turn your climb will be better.

@@JM64 That is because in-game they automatically adjust the trim on the blades and limit the RPMs for us with the planes. With helicopters it is a much bigger issue since they have a much larger prop and it happens a lot easier to overspeed them so you end up getting much less power.

Phly you can get any ammunition info for any vehicle in WT by going to the stat card o km the left, armor viewer, ammo testing, and then click on the heli ammo loadputs and itll tell you the info. This works for every vehicle in the game. (At least I haven't come across on that doesnt show you :) )

It is a 30mm HEAT round that has around 37.5-38mm max pen at its optimal range of 600-1000m.

@@ExcavationNation It does. When the UH-1C XM-30 was first released someone posted a document about the XM-30s on r/Warthunder (Reddit). I read it and wish that I saved it because the post got deleted for some odd reason. What I commented is from what I remember from reading it. Also in the files the max pen of the 30mm ammo on the XM-30s is 37.5mms the last time someone showed me. I will continue to try to find that document again.

Phly please dont always fly with 100% coll (especially when actively dodging/attacking), that makes the helicopter just massively unmaneuvarable and kills your RPM

Here is little help, the XM140 used 3 types of 30mm ammunition, XM552, XM554, XM669. XM552 is a high explosive, dual purpose (fragmentation and shaped charge), impact initiated round. XM554 is a practice and spotting round for the high explosive cartridge XM552. XM639 is just a training round.

Choppers usually do not use the tail rotor to maneuver, instead tilt the blades to steer and turn themselves, Huey for example has dual counter rotating differential. Hence it can maneuver without a tail fin.

The XM140 30mm gun in those pods is the one developed for the AH-56 Cheyenne. They fired a unique cartridge based on the ADEN/DEFA round, but with a shorter case. The cartridge is known as the 30X100B WECOM (Army WEapons COMmand). So, similar to the guns used in the AH-64, the Hunter, the Mirage, but slightly less velocity.
