In 1971, Karenga was sentenced to one to ten years in prison on counts of felony assault and false imprisonment.[22] One of the victims gave testimony of how Karenga and other men tortured her and another woman. The woman described having been stripped naked and beaten with an electrical cord. Karenga's estranged wife, Brenda Lorraine Karenga, testified that she sat on the other woman's stomach while another man forced water into her mouth through a hose.

But the celebration itself is good isn’t it? Black people didn’t decide to accept Christianity on a nice beautiful sunny day. They accepted it at the end of a whip. Then there was the Christian crusade. It was nothing nice. People were tortured into accepting that religion. Christianity was and is built on war, incest, mayhem, rape, conquering of nations and so much more ugliness on a much larger scale than Karenga. We are not celebrating him. We are celebrating ourselves and others like us. What are your thoughts?

Was just reading about Dr Karenga and what a fine upstanding citizen he is/was. In 1971, he was convicted of felony assault, torture, and false imprisonment of women. He denied involvement and claimed the prosecution was political in nature. Karenga was imprisoned in California Men's Colony until he received parole in 1975. Now he's full time race hustler. @ahmarianrigby6063 Жыл бұрын
@@Evilroco I know this is an old comment, but I just wanted to give some insight in case you haven't gained any since. -Every holiday is made up/invented (its common sense) - Kwanzaa is almost 60 yrs. old as a holiday -The person who ACTUALLY "penned" the idea was Sister Makinya Sibeko-Kouate, and it was SHE that travelled throughout the US to establish the celebration communally. Just like a lot of things women's contributions aren't celebrated. -Maulana Kurenga is not celebrated even in the slightest by anyone that celebrates Kwanzaa, and most of us are very educated on his gruesome crimes against the women of our community. -If you took the time to read/watch Kwanzaa content you would know it is not inhumane (really dramatic of you to say this, because what are you even talking about) nor is it divisive (or do you believe that everyone should be allowed in black spaces at all times??). -Kwanzaa as a holiday was started to honor and celebrate our HERITAGE as black African people who are descendants of a wide range of tribes/nations under a single umbrella. "It's the least humane and most divisive holiday that occurs in winter"...... Have you heard of Christians and Christmas Also, as a non-black person what gave the audacity to insert your opinion in something that doesn't concern you.
