Listen, bruh, I know you’re Georgian, and all good for you, but you’re complaining about an American-based company like X, so people have Natural God-given rights; one is called the 1st Amendment. It’s in the US Constitution; read about it. But if you choose to disagree with me, I reckon you’d be an atheist who looks back to monkey ancestors. If that's the case, that's fine too. If people say nonsense they believe in, let them be; that's the 1st Amendment, baby.

Facts, I heard a story about how Congolese citizens were living on an area that was rich in cobalt and when the government found out about this new cobalt discovery and heard about them digging it they forced those people off the land with little compensation and sold the land to China. I don't like living in another person's country but with the rampant corruption on the continent it feels there is no other option if you want to prosper or even just live comfortably, very rarely are there African presidents who are actually for the people and not just self serving.

It's the elected leaders that sell out to foreign nations, they chose to do this and none are really facing more than online backlash so they will keep doing it. Corporations and outside entities just want to make a quick buck, it's what they do and you need have a good enough government or leaders that will slow down or get something back for the people for that.

@kacgb5315
@kacgb5315 8 ай бұрын
...bro I notice alpt.of.ppl don't know how the world works and escpeiclaly blame colonialism, literally Kenya does have access to the oil, how do u think the British got there to discover the oil, its because Kenya invited British oil companies to find oil and they found it so British company would get shares of the oil profits, u don't invest all that money into finding oil and not get anyhting out of it, so British company made a deal with kneya to get shares of profits and the kneyan government decides what they wanna do with profits they've gained from oil...like guys don't know how deal are made, make it seem like British forced their way in and forceful stop Kenya from having the oil, the only thing u can complain about is the deal of the share of profits are fair or not and that upto the African government to take that deal and those governments are notorious corrupt, these foreign companies don't force them to take the deal cos there's always another foreign company gunna give a worse or better deal.

5:12 Tax avoidance or tax evasion? They are actually different things, tax avoidance is optimizing your taxes to pay as little as possible by using tax loopholes etc which pretty much every corporation on earth is doing so it wouldn't be much of a news if it was them doing that. BTW I'm not saying that it means it's good since every corporation is doing it but then there would be not much point to attacking this specific one for it.

As a Brit, an excuse I’ve heard many times about why our mining companies are currently still managing/extracting African resources is because said companies are just more advanced and developed, thus being more efficient than any domestic corporation in these countries could hope to be… like, obviously? The reason why African businesses can’t compete with their European/Western counterparts in the first place is because we just spent the past few centuries exploiting these countries and barely improving their education systems, it’s not like in colonial times any African bloke would’ve had the resources (or was even really allowed to due to racial policies) to create a start-up that could rival British mining companies 💀 no shit that African nations don’t have the institutions to encourage business start-ups that can rival Western corporations because the institutions they inherited from us were deeply flawed/rigged in our favour from the beginning.

A ravenous predator that once conquered and exterminated countless lives including it's own people under the arrogant belief that it was working for the greater good, only to lose it's power after a devastating war.

Good points. It’s important to say ‘the British’ and ‘the French’ don’t ‘own’ African resources. Companies on their stock exchanges do. It is, of course a legacy of colonialism but the governments of Britain and France get f^%k all from these companies in taxes and most of their shares are owned by institutional investors located anywhere in the world; China, Brazil, US ….. even Georgia. That’s globalisation baby! They can and should regulate these companies to contribute more money to African economies but is a politician gonna tell boomers in Argentina, India or Canada they can’t have a fifth annual holiday or an early bird dinner because some Africans wanna go to school? Of course not

Even form the little that gets covered by media here, we're talking diplomats (french or foreign alike) being threatened and/or bought into silence, political agreements and massive private investments for raw material extractions, high profit civilian engineering, or juicy military sales. All that behind several bureaucratic brick walls to keep all that nice and legal by international laws. I shit you not, in 2017 we had articles about some dictator's son living in the fanciest districts of Paris while the country (Equatorial Guinea) is in extreme povrety, but strangely enough has a GDP of 21,500$ per capita 🤡

A lot of the "help" China is giving effectively involves China giving countries investments (in the form of really shoddy architecture) via their Belt and Road initiative, at high interest rates, and then basically demanding the countries give them land when they can't pay up.
@HarryMonn
@HarryMonn 9 ай бұрын
@bananajones4121 I am aware. Outright seizure of land is a small minority of the cases though. Regardless of who owns the infrastructure, from what I've seen online most Africans living in Africa say the Chinese are actually making a difference which is something Western Europe couldn't do. Believe me I live in the US I would love to say that the West does better than China on this but I really don't think thats the case.

@@HarryMonn There are decreased levels of trust in local government and increased numbers of Anti-Chinese protests in areas of Africa where there are more Chinese-backed projects (according to an article on TheConversation). It's a case of multiple exploitative powers being replaced with a single exploitative power which has done arguably even worse things in the area, since the Chinese infrastructure projects are of a similar level to actual Chinese infrastructure (which cuts corners and is overall just really bad due to freakish levels of corruption) and the money given by China goes more into the pockets of local strongmen than money from Western sources such as the World Bank.

I would love to debate this guy because a lot of what he says is factually incorrect and misleading. For example, the companies he mentioned for the British side do not just operate in Africa, they are a global company who work across the world. On top of this, many of the African governments employ them to do such tasks as they don't have the equipment to in trade for profits in the company. This isn't "colonialism" it's governments making deals with companies. "You work here, but you have to give us some money" is how most companies work. India is doing the same in many Middle-Eastern countries, are Indians a colonial power now? UAE is doing this across the world, is the UAE a colonial power? Is any foreign company working in another country to gain resources a colonial power? Of course not. These claims are directly misleading and miss basic structural understanding of capitalism and trade. Also, the guy who Gattsu is quoting off of here is Mark Curtis, not only is Gattsu's source nearly 10 years out of date in this video, but it's based on a guy who's made Q-Anon type books in his lifetime. Conspiracy theories on the British & American government. Curtis' research is NOT peer reviewed and he self-admits all his opinions are based on single-research methods. Meaning he doesn't have anybody double check them or prove them, he simply says what he thinks based on his own research without the proper certification. Curtis has gone on record claiming things such as "Radical Islam is fostered by Britain" which is a dangerous, misleading and incorrect take on the Middle-East and it's people's. I've reviewed a few videos of Gattsu's before and found serious logical flaws in his reasonings and rhetoric's. His mix of entertainment and political opinions make his videos seem more light-hearted than they are and I'd call it a manipulative style of editing. Most likely, Gattsu won't respond to this comment, but somebody at KZbin, or Ground News, should really be telling this guy to A) Use up to date resources when discussing topics and B) not to rely on single-evidence authors who have been known to dabble in and promote Conspiracy theories.

I conducted some research on this matter actually, and it appears totally strange to me that a country like China is receiving substantial criticism for seeking strategic influence in Africa through economic partnerships. Meanwhile, former colonial powers (notably France) - despite their democratic values - have consistently held arbitrary positions within state and monetary institutions, which allow them the flexibility to directly shape African policies to their advantage...

They're bad but they're somewhat better than the Chinese/Russian deals. US investments in Africa are liable to legal action by the US if corruption is uncovered. There's way more transparency rules for most western countries (look at Credit Suisse - corrupt deals in Mozambique brought public ended up ruining them). If the investor countries also have zero freedom of press and transparency measures (however imperfect) how much more can they get away with?

I don't usually comment on KZbin, but today I want to thank you for talking about this and highlighting why people immigrate to Europe. As an Algerian student living in France, the impact of 132 years of colonization is still felt back home - economically, psychologically...( there's been no official apology from France for their war crimes, lol). The economy is controlled, the government is corrupt, and education is limited to French in universities. Moving is tough, and France is often the only affordable option. Unfortunately, we face mistreatment, and even doing everything right, getting residency takes six months for Algerians, limiting your rights, etc., etc. They also use Islam as an excuse for problems in France and North Africa so they can hide their shit... All we want is a chance for a better life, man! no one wants to leave his family and his homeland. WHERE ARE WE SUPPOSED TO LIVE TO GET THE SIMPLEST THINGS IN LIFE?

Taxation is never the answer, we all know that money is not going to the population, but to finance little dictator son's trip to Paris and higher education in Switzerland, not to mention their armies, and the last thing we need are competent and powerful armies in African right now. I remember an old TED talk about an African industrialist, in her talk her biggest problem was the taxation of imported goods, she couldn't import cardboard from Europe or Asia because taxes would quadruple it's price. As always the only way to enrich a country is by deregulating the markets, protecting private property and humans rights and weakening State's power, just like Botswana did, they are one the best examples on how to improve the african situation.

So Africa is not developed because of everyone else's fault? You say that France and China don't act on the goodwill oftheir hearts to develop the continent. Of course, they are independent countries doing business like everyone else. The real reason is corruption and that is the Africans fault. You even gave an example of what happens when they are not corrupt and indeed Botswana is developing. Nonetheless, to say is always the failt of everyone else is just treating them as victims. It almost sounds like your solution is just to develop them for free and give them free money just because. Slavery happened everywhere in the world

Colonialism as a form of goverment is very corrosirve once you get the freedom, most of the people at the top are stuck to the mentality that you need to rob as much as you want but instead of giving it to your colonial rulers, you keep it to yourself. This thing takes decades to get rid off... But of course you expected the country to be free and everything would be solved in an instant right? Also the debt traps of the IMF, coups and foreing intervention play an importan role. After you invaded Libya, North Africa became an importan place for migration routes and human trafficking, this is just an exmaple and I could be giving you tons of other ones. Of course and idealistic westerner wouldn't understand because they think they are the good guys
