Godzilla Minus One only had a budget of 15 Million Dollars and looked fantastic, while the Disney Acolyte Show had a 180 Million Dollars budget and looks extremely cheap. It might not be bad news, but they must spend it the most where it counts.

Godzilla Minus One's budget is misleading tbh, there a lot of factors at play there such as currency exchange rates, cheaper labor, and no unions. It's a fantastic film, but I don't think it's budget should be touted as a success story or something to be replicated.

Netflix as the platform and host as well as the lack of maturity for such a game and its story leaves me skeptical if its going to be released/good but i do agree with your point regarding it being a movie, i think a series would serve much better, just take a look at the mini bioshock movies that are on KZbin (the Integration of Timmy H and the two sculptor brothers) if they can pull of something similar they can either make a full video+audio representation of the bioshock rapture book with the main characters from the game and how rapture was built, progressed and eventually collapsed or they could cover stories of side characters or entirely different characters, lots of potential. Thanks for the coverage!

I'm still excited for the movie. Honestly, a smaller budget isn't necessarily a bad thing. It can encourage the production team to be more creative with the premise and in some situations and set pieces (as was the case with the first "Deadpool," which cost around $60 million to make). How much smaller the budget of this film might be compared to, say, a big-budget Netflix movie like "Red Notice" ($200 million) is unknown. When I read "more personal story," at best, we might have a good psychological thriller film, or a character study of Jack discovering his connection to Rapture while trying to survive.
@Skybij5 ай бұрын
Solid psychological horror with good memorable dialogs for each characters (Coen brothers) and some authentic visual atmosphere (Nightmare alley), sprinkled with some quick gory action scenes in tight dark claustrophobic corners. Illuminated by flickering and buzzing of thunder bolt plasmid, glimmering neon sign's light pouring through thick panes of glass, refractions wavering on drowning walls of deep black halls and vintage vacuum tube glow out of radios and security bots. That's what I hoping for.

For a Bioshock show I like your idea of kind of hybridizing jack's main story with what has happened in Rapture/What is currently going on in Rapture. I'd love to see a scene of Jack picking up a Accu-Vox of Dr. Steinman with a patient and have it flashback to the scene showing what happened. Same idea with Dr. Suchong would love to see more of the little sisters or something adjacent being created.

Mr. H made some good points about this news, and it's actually GOOD news. The leadership change is upstairs of the project and everyone attached to the movie itself are still there. Had it been the producer who slashed the budget, THAT would have been a red flag. However, with the success of Godzilla Minus Zero and the slow financial collapse across all streaming services, having Netflix itself cut the budget is a good thing. It means they still have faith in the movie and the budget just meas getting rid of a lot of that could drag the movie down. We're seeing a huge resurgence of practical effects over CGI, and honestly, the visual style of Rapture would benefit from dumpster diving and modular sets, which are a LOT cheaper than full CGI backgrounds and greenscreening, plus they FEEL more real. They could also turn to matte paintings for window views with CGI or footage of sea creatures inserted to give the paintings life. Also, we don't know the full direction of the movie, so it's possible they'll tell a completely different story from Bioshock 1 or tell an aspect of it as opposed to the full story. Personally, I still want to see the fall of Rapture over a retelling of the first game. There's so much that happened that we have yet to actually see. Plus, could I hold out hope of Robert Downy Jr. as Andrew Ryan watching his utopia falling apart once he's done wearing that thrift store Doctor Doom costume for Disney?
@c.nondorf20364 ай бұрын
I think the reveal of how Jack got there should be a big reveal like it was in the game! It would be cool if episode one would switch between Jack’s POV and how Rapture came to be. The following episodes should do a Jack POV with flashbacks to the featured character in the episode (Steinman in the Medical Pavillion/Cohen in Fort Frolic/Atlas in Apollo Square/etc.) I’m not sure how they’d handle the choices with the Little Sisters in the movie or show. It would have a good setup as a show though because each area usually has one main character Jack communicates with, so that would be the backstory character. We could also get small flashbacks of the characters in the audio diaries. If it was too much to do a whole scene for them, I’m sure they could find a way to incorporate the audio diaries themselves

@theladieclairАй бұрын
They definitely aren't going to tell a linear story with all the main characters from the game. My guess is that the story will follow a random person made up entirely for the movie and the characters we know will have cameos or brief mentions. Perhaps the movie protagonist becomes a splicer, maybe they survive Rapture and live to tell about it, or maybe they lost a relative in Rapture and tell the story based on smuggled letters that made it to them by way of Fontaine. I can't wait to see what they come up with.
@Glundberg843 ай бұрын
I would not consider making it into a show a downgrade. More screen time and more opportunities to tell this amazing story. I will also add that a well-written script and actor performance are a lot more important than than grand scale and lots of expensive CGI. Some of the world's best movies take place in small locations, and lean more on character-to-character interactions, the setting, and the story.

@@TheBioshockHub I feel like as long as it has atmosphere with a story to tell and is not dumb then fans can accept it even if it derails from the expected. A noir detective style for example. Or take notes from Lighthouse. Even with a smaller budget there are things you can get away with as long as you use it well. Like choose your CGI carefully, mix it with practical, etc. The live GITS film visually was on point. Obviously Rapture would be better than Colombia, but they can do a prequel where you get to Rapture etc. Something about crazy Nazi scientists in New York underground, whatever.

I had discussed this on Twitter. A mini series at the least would be the best way to go about this. Have jake slowly going through the ruins of rapture fighting off splicers while atlas or Dr. T gives him insights of what it was like before so that we can see the downfall of rapture and Ryan become a hypocrite. But it has to be in such a way that the twists that come our way isn't ruined and still well done.

Plus, a show would have more time to develop characters and story lines, and given how big the BS universe is, multiple seasons would be a possibility.
