Years ago, I dismantled an old travel trailer like that to make a flat-bed utility trailer. It took me several weekends to strip it down to the frame. If only I knew then that exploding a cubic meter of concrete next to it could do the job much faster. ;)
@Cammi_Rosalie4 жыл бұрын
I too, have torn one down. And also a typical 1970's mobile home/trailer house. The one thing I would love to know is what secret technology goes into those damn staples?! It's like they hold things together with some quantum mechanical force or something. Damn near need dynamite to separate the pieces. The wood breaks and shatters, but the joints hold fast.
@WoodworkerDon4 жыл бұрын
@@Cammi_Rosalie Yes, mine had thousands of staples and screws. I think the 1x2 and 2x2 wood furring strips swelled in the damp Pacific Northwest where the trailer spent most of its years, and then the wood got harder with age baking in the southern New Mexico sun, which is where I had it when disassembling it. They just didn't want to come out. They were likely glue or resin coated staples too. Even after "raking" the ground area with a big magnet to pick up staples and screws, I still find one or two now and again, and it's been about 18 years since I broke it down.
@DIYToPen4 жыл бұрын
Might need a new frame if you're stripping the frame with dynamite. And new tyres. And new everything else.

Did something similar as a teen, on a smaller scale. Placed a guart jar of blasting powder inside a five gallon bucket of wet concrete. Let it dry for two days. Threw two fist size chunks just over 100 meters. Had placed a 55 gallon drum half full of hardened roof tar over the concrete bucket as well. Ripped it open, broke up the hardened tar, and threw it 50 feet into the air. Very loud too. Thanks for your videos.

I just try imagining the rebars flying around like daggers... with 200m/s!
@SkylosSobaka4 жыл бұрын
I'm for that. High content ferrocement with no tube only wires - actually embed the explosive in cement in the middle. Its easy to have enough energy to exceed the tension power of plain concrete. Can you make the rebar disintegrate too? (materials science wise I imagine it is possible, but could require a pretty big bang)
@henrikthorkildsen82644 жыл бұрын
Just 60 grams to see how that will destroy the concrete would also be interesting. Probably not so fun but I kind of want to see the difference
@demolitiondavedrillandblast4 жыл бұрын
@@SkylosSobaka You are correct SS in that heavily reinforced concrete is quite difficult to break with explosives, much more difficult than hard rock as the reinforced concrete has high tensile strength but rock has high compressive strength but low tensile strength. Normal load rate for demolition of heavily reinforced concrete would be about 1 - 1.2 Kg/m3, for popping a boulder the same size 100g is plenty.
@christophpoll7844 жыл бұрын

I was living in Croatia during the war in the 90's, I was 10 at the time, and I know what bomb fragments are. When people watch movies, the moviemakers make it look like mostly the bomb blast kills people, and it's like 99,99% of the movies. When I see in the movies the bomb went off 2 cm from the person and he dies, and people 5 meters away somehow survive, it makes me roll my eyes. That is not true. The most dangerous are little fragments from the bomb that we call "šrapneli" and they can kill within hundreds of meters from the bomb blast. They can even go through multiple walls easy.
@matthewhall55714 жыл бұрын
The word is basically the same in English: shrapnel. Hollywood is designed to be dramatic bullshit not real explosions. They use lots of gasoline to make a big fireball. Real explosions from bombs are horrible things you don't want to see up close obviously.
@ericl29694 жыл бұрын
Yes, and simply being in the path of the shock wave is deadly unless at a great distance. The human body cannot tolerate having every cubic inch of tissue violently slammed by a supersonic pressure wave.
@keirfarnum68114 жыл бұрын
Pero Juric All true, except that blast direction can make a big difference in the deadliness of the bomb. I have seen videos of IEDs going off in Iraq where soldiers were standing right next to the bomb and they weren’t harmed (at least not visibly harmed.) If the blast is directed away from someone, it can make a difference; not that any sane person would want to test it.
