Yeah, I understand that with having a YT channel you want to read certain books first, but I think it's always best to prioritize your reading mood over it, especially if you're very busy/stressed. If you don't enjoy what you read it going to cause even more stress. And we will watch your content whether or not you read according to mood.

Tana French is one of my favorite authors of all time. Her writing is exquisitely atmospheric. Also her character building is one of the best I've come across. Her books are as much about the characters as the mystery itself. Go with an open mind as they are quite slow building but I personally love that. Also the first book is the weakest in the series, which is still really good, but they eventually get better and better with every book.

Tana French is one of my favorite authors! They aren’t technically a series but some of the same characters pop up in later books. This is the order they were written: In the Woods, The Likeness (my favorite!!!), Faithful Place, Broken Harbor, The Secret Place, The Trespasser, The Witch Elm. I hope you enjoy her as much as I do! Love your channel and I look forward to your videos anytime I jump on KZbin!

I loved The Likeness! I didn’t like In the Woods (not the last half anyway) and thought Faithful place was good but not great. Def need to read the rest though

I can't wait to get into her books! I think I'm a bit intimidated because there are quite a few books and I have so many series on the go already lol

@elizabennet73975 жыл бұрын
Same here but my favorite is Broken Harbour, but I love all the books in it. The gimmick with Dublin Murder Squad is that one minor character in the previous novel will be a major one in the next novel. The Likeness kind of reminded me of Secret History (in a good way). One tiny correction, The Witch Elm is not part of the others, it is a standalone. I agree that it is a great novel. Tana French is a great story teller but also a good writer, she completely satiates the hunger for good prose that is in me.

I'm glad you're picking up more of the expanse series! One of my favorite reads of all time! I loved it as a good summer blockbuster-type series. Fyi though I think you do have book 3 (Abbadon's Gate) and the book you're actually missing is book 2 (Caliban's War)
@desertrose06015 жыл бұрын
Yeah that’s basically my goal for 2020 as well: to read books that I’ve been dying to read but keep putting off and also to push through some series that I’ve started but then just never finished (assuming I’m still interested in them).
@teodoratoncheva705 жыл бұрын
I loved "Into the water" way more than "The girl on the train" (which is still quite a nice book imo). I think most people have a problem with the fact that you're following the perspective of a bunch of characters and for some that might be hard to keep up with. Also if I remember correctly you have some flashbacks from the past here and there. I personally love books written that way but I can understand how it can become a bit much if you have problems remembering different characters. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did!

I live in Milwaukee, WI, USA and the central library has an entire store and cafe, all with used books. It recently had its annual $0.25 book sale (yes, that’s right) and all YA books were TWO FOR $0.25 (!!!) I started out reading the synopsis but by the end was just picking up cool book covers. But let me tell you - the people at this sale were *professionals.* They had carts with wheels and lists and they were there to SHOP. It was pretty bananas (and awesome!).

POWDER MAGE YEAAHHH!!! I have been looking forward to see this series in your channel! Because I'm curious what are you going to think about it. 😄😄 I dont want to rise up the expectations BUT i think the magic system is pretty darn good + the plot also promising.😄 (i dont want to give spoilers) The only downside would be constant changing of point of view? The story is not strictly linear- with chapters you change to a different character since the lead ones usually not in the same place, and sometimes it just hard to follow whats happening or you just want to skip it to get the one you are interested. 🤔 But i think all in all its good and I hope you will enjoy it ^^

Berly Nice book haul. A lot of good books indeed. I added the fantasy ones on my Goodreads lists. I've read the Into the water in translated in French. I didn't enjoy reading it, but I heard some people loved it. I'm not a fan of thrillers maybe it explains why I did not like it.
@ddra1055 жыл бұрын
Tana French is one of my favorite authors! Although I have to admit that I stated The Witch Elm and after a few pages I decided to stop. Either way her detective series is great! Great complex characters! In the first book the protagonists are a female and a male detective. In the second one only the female is the lead and her supervisor in that one is the protagonist of the 3rd book and he has some sort of “rival” which is then the protagonist of the 4th and so on.. so I think it’s really interesting to see the same character through the eyes of other characters and then getting to know them yourself.

The first book in that Tana French series started off really strong, but towards the end I was so fed up with the MC and didn’t like the ending that I nearly gave up on the series. But the second book was AMAZING, and third pretty good (though not a fave). Eventually I’ll finish the rest of the series *it’s funny you mentioned this series as I was thinking about it right before watching! The other day I was also thinking of making the Powder Mage a priority as it’s been on my tbr for ages 😆

The Powder Mage trilogy is great! I think the following trilogy may be even better. Brian McClellan was one of Brandon Sanderson's students, so the magic system in that world kinda reflects that. Basically, there are multiple types of magic: people can basically snort gunpowder and have enhanced reflexes, the more typical magic (like control of fire, water, etc), and there's some blood magic.

I will be really interested to see what you think of the Brian McClellan. I really wanted to like it. I thought the first book was okay. not great, but okay... and then it went off the rails on the second one. I know it's an unpopular opinion....and it did have a unique magic system, but I don't think that saved it.

I really hope you like The Powder Mage more than I did because I had so many problems with it. There's literally a line about how someone's fiancee was seduced/stolen away by a "professional philanderer". It is also described that Powder Mages (particularly the males) each have their own harem. I don't think I can go into more details without spoilers. One reviewer called this story "a many book about manly men doing manly things with their manliness" and wow is that apt.

was unfortunately disappointed by the 3-body problem series. character development just wasnt there even a bit so i couldnt connect with the story at all. cool concept, but as things happened, it was just like "oh this is happening now?" partly because things just happened out of the blue but mostly because it didnt have any real impact because there wasnt a connection there to feel anything over. :(
