One thing you missed in the email that worries me. Phil says up until recently the Nintendo board of directors was not focused on stock appreciation and market growth. However, he said that may change as he's been in contact with new BoD members buying up Nintendo stock that will push for stock appreciation and growth. Money money money. This means Nintendo will be under more pressure to make money as opposed to being creative. This is often an issue with game companies and what leads to garbage like microtransactions as growth becomes the primary focus. He also states this may create an angle for MS to get in while Nintendo is under pressure. One of the new BoD members is one of MS BoD. This all sucks. Buying Devs/publishers is one thing but any of the 3 console manufactures merging is horrible.

​@@kahp1072 Yes but they aren't private, they are public and you clearly don't know how the stock market works. Nintendo's share price hasn't grown since the end of 2020. In fact it's slightly down. Meaning shareholders, and more importantly BoDs are not making money. Nintendo's Dividend rate is only in the 2% range so investor profit primarily comes from stock growth. If more and more members of the BoD like this buy up shares they have more and more voting rights, and can exert more pressure for what they want. Be it microtransactions, consolidation, NFTs, whatever. Current success doesn't matter if the wrong people are on the BoD. Its never enough and they will push for things that stifle creativity for more stock growth. These kinds of people are never happy with the status quo. They latch on to profit trends to drive up prices then sell when its no longer feasible or fails. Many brands, franchises, companies have faltered from shit like this when they had very successful products. Success and trends attract these investors. Since Nintendo's share has flatlined (with massive dips the past 2 years), you can bet there's tons of pressure for share growth on Switch 2 strategies. It's the woes of being public traded company.

Xbox didn't have the gamepass ecosystem back when the first attempt. Now they have a flourishing online ecosystem that people are happy with, there won't be pushback since Sony has already done this and Xbox did with a recent iterations of the series S.

That said Microsoft already was making a point to release their theoretically major 1st Party games in a state where they couldn't actually be played off the disk, so this just amounts to them dropping the pretense.

@@mikerosoft1009 well the issue us most gamers don't really see the issue with going all digital, for the average gamer all they known is they can either go to the store and buy something that can be broken and requires manual swaps in and out the console, or the can download the it from there coach and not even have to get up before playing(if they're lucky enough to have good internet). I was talking to the local EB Games store staff over here in Australia. They said that almost all their physical sales comes from PlayStation and Nintendo games and they barely make any sales from Xbox games due to game pass and their exclusives coming out on PC on launch. With Nintendo the e-mail indicates they're actively involved in shell games to buy stocks for the opening moves of a Hostile Takeover, which Nintendo is vulnerable to due to being a Publicly Traded Company. Removing the Disk Drive is a kick in the face to people who already own physical Xbox One and Xbox 360 games. Some backwards compatible games can only be played via a disc. There should really be a service to convert physical games to digital. Microsoft also should really consider adding either a Disk Drive to this new Xbox SX or add more storage (2TB) to the original Xbox SX. Maybe even update the WiFi card in it to 6E in the OG model. That way they’re both equal.

I'm super nervous about the oblivion remaster, it might mean Bethesda shuts down Skyblivion which would be a tragedy. I have a feeling an Oblivion remaster will be a lazy update to graphics and lighting and no other upgrades, whereas Skyblivion is a complete remake and looks amazing with updates to all landscapes, cities and quests.

Totally fair criticism but it's usually fair to take into consideration that Bethesda has often worked with several mod authors in the past to push out projects so it wouldn't be surprising if some of their work was even used IN the Oblivion remake. Also another thing to consider is the difference between a remake and a remaster, those are 2 completely different things. One of the major factors to consider in favor of a remake is that with as much negativity as Starfield gets, it does also incorporate ALOT of features from Oblivion and FO3 which could go to show Bethesda testing out those features in an updated version of their engine which would lean closer to a remake than a remaster. As well as the return of several old VAs from Oblivion to Starfield (Wes Johnson and Craig Sechler) which could theorhetically show that they still have access to those VAs for projects. To look on the other side, wouldn't it be better if Bethesda's was a lazy graphics update because it does lend itself to Skyblivion having a reason to exist. As opposed to Bethesda releasing an actual remake and functionally shelving Skyblivion.

@@SirFenV Don't get me wrong, I would be happy if this re-make ended up being good. My concern is more geared toward the fact that it would be beneficial to Bethesda and Microsoft (in the short term) to shut down the Skyblivion mod in order to try to get people to buy their remake instead of getting a remake essentially for free (I know it's not technically free since you have to own both Oblivion and Skyrim). But honestly if they did shut down Skyblivion the community backlash would be brutal and they would just be further damaging their brand. Here's hoping that both projects see the light of day.

All digital would be terrible, especially where I live. In the UK, Sony and Microsoft tend to price their $70 games at £70. Basically, all they do is flip the dollar symbol into a pound. The only good means of getting a $70 game near $70 is through physical means as sellers would have fay one discounts that bring the prices down to where they should be. If physical goes away, this means people would have to pay £70 instead of $70, which would make the company $86.

As for the exclusives, I like Starfield and Hi-fi Rush, they are some of the better Xbox games I've played. (I understand Halo Infinite and especially Redfall, those games were bad) Also yes, I did know Xbox wanted to acquire Nintendo a long time ago in the 2000s, so seeing this again was surprising considering what happened last time. Now imagine, consoles go strictly digital download only. Where you can only fit so many downloads at a time (assuming you can’t change out non-volatile storage due proprietary BS). I just cancelled my Gamepass today actually before I even knew of this but it was because I dislike subscriptions. I am not a fan of big corporations expecting my money and using it for leverage. I miss the days where companies would build and produce products you, the consumer, wanted because they needed you to spend that money not expect it. They had to produce a good or service so it was to benefit the consumer. Them removing the disk and going all digital removes that aspect. I find it ridiculous that you have to spend full physical disc prices for digital license access. I am just paying all that money for a license of access instead of owning the product that I am buying. I really hope they re-think this. I'd rather deal with the limitations of physical disc than the convenience of a digital license to access a game. I want to own the products I spend money on. I think it's good to have options sure but they're just removing that to push game pass and digital access and with how big Microsoft is I dislike that direction and don't want other companies to follow that direction.

They charge you full price for a digital license and I agree with you. It is already this way with Disney Plus. Should sift towards USB flash drives instead of disks, but still have disk readers for backwards compatibility, until a point where the transition towards USBs trumps disks usage. The same occured with vinyls, casettes, floppy disks, and now it should happen with disks.

PC has already shifted towards USB flash drives instead of disks in most useages, its the media industry thats behind the times by still selling things on disks. Should sell them on flash drives. Do it like Nintendo on the Switch, have a small box but inside it is an USB flash drive with a custom casing related to the game it has stored.

I can see why they want to get rid of physical as it obviously makes people go through their shop which in turn gives them a lot more control and a lot less work. My main concerns are the new elder scrolls when it comes out in 10 years I'll probably need to get a PC and Nintendo. Nintendo is a weird one though as they don't have any competition as is so being acquired currently dosent effect anything either way.

I know PC has been digital for a very long time, however compared to console at leas we have multiple stores to buy from including DRM free options and capability's. If this happens on consoles, will turn it more into a mac "walled garden". You will only be able to buy/rent games from there store & discounts I guarantee will be a lot more sporadic. No more disk backwords comp, Digital versions of some COD like the OG Black Ops on PC are still $60 years later because you can only buy on digital. This is an issue with Digital only, no discounts on some games no matter when you buy them "they just never go on sale".

COD is kinda unique in this. They just don't lower the price because they want people to buy the newer ones. All their monetization efforts are in the latest releases. Nintendo on the hand doesn't lowers the prices because people will still buy it for the high price. They went full apple there and it worked. I don't think this whole thing is linked to physical releases. I mean other only digital titles still get discounted some day.

I don't mind digital consoles so long as there is an OPTION for physical. If all digital is the future these companies need to figure out some way for the people who spend 70-80 DOLLARS... on a game to be able to actually OWN that game. For example, very old digital games are still being packaged at full price... now imagine no ability to buy physical. I've seen 5-10-year-old games still charge 50-70 by bundling all the DLC, offering no way to purchase the game alone, and forcing you to buy the DLC included.
