Thankfully Nintendo as a company has shown over the years that they're not interested in necessarily becoming the biggest or the best (sometimes to their own detriment). Nintendo's current leadership by this leak shows they they're not interested in a Merger or Aquisition, so for Nintendo to be bought out, it'd have to be a hostile takeover in the form of buying shares and partnering with other major shareholders to forcibly push a buyout through. But Phil Spencer himself recognizes what a poor move that would be. Because it's definitely something that Microsoft has the money to do (Nintendo is actually valued less than Activision Blizzard currently). But a hostile takeover would likely not only make fans unhappy and or at least worried, it would mess with the leadership that has successfully gotten switch to he as big of a hit as it was.

It’s why valve has been able to stay so consumer friendly for the most part, they don’t have to make every action about maximizing profits now. Heck SteamOS shows how they will invest in the future, it’ll be 10 years old in December yet it’s only really shown results in the past two years or so. Any other company will likely would have called it quits deciding they could bring in more profit elsewhere where as valve saw it as a long term investment to make sure they couldn’t be shackled to Microsoft if they did something crazy like made a version of windows that could only download from the Microsoft store(oh wait they’ve done that 2 separate times now).

it isnt a delusional thing at all. Microsoft is so huge that the only way for them to make a meaningful difference in their total revenue is to make big changes. The possibility of it isnt relevant they keep every possible thing on the list of stuff they want just in case. Nintendo is the smallest of the big three, so of course Microsoft wants their market share because it would immediately make them the industry leader. Same goes for going full digital, that is a huge statistical increase in revenue, but it also is totally unrealistic given the internet speeds of the US.

Couple that with the fully AI moderation that’s coming at some point, you’ll be able to get banned from playing anything on the Xbox you paid for, you said naughty words, the AI was the only one offended by them, no recourse, you go touch grass now, bye bye. I would say it’s eventually going to ban so many gamers for non issues, that they’ll end up losing a sizeable player base, but I’m sure they’ve thought of that and figured out how to screw a lot of gamers and not notice a monetary deficit.

I absolutely hate the corporate greed of Microsoft and how they ruined the Xbox platform, but make no mistake the greedy shareholders buy up what they want. IF this were to happen, there ought to be calls to break up Microsoft for monopolistic practices and intentions as well as breaking off all their recent acquistions and to make sure they become independent studios so other corporations and investment groups don't snap them up. We can thank Republicans and Wall st. behind the scenes undermining the FTC as they are looking at trying to get rid of the head of the FTC for trying to block corporate acquisitions and mergers. The way to stop these corporations running rough shodd over everything is more people become aware of Microsoft, speak to their officials and congress representatives to do the right thing. It can work because there was enough complaints to representatives to callout things like Lootboxes, so there can definitely be calls for monopolistic movements that threaten the games industry.

Microsoft buying valve as in the steam store right? That will be a colossal disaster for the entire gaming industry. Mcrsft will stop sales of one time purchases and make everything in steam into different bundles of subscription services. They might even just make up new tokens you'll get under different tiers of subscription models and you would only be able to purchase games with those tokens. So you'll only be able to purchase a set amount of games under a subscription plan depending on the token value of the game and how many tokens you get in your plan. Mcrsft will do anything for people to pat them money for all eternity. Why did i even think of this horrifying concept? It made me shuddder thinking that mcrft will buy valve. If they make the next xbox a true cloud hybrid, then what happens when they maybe 10 years down the line from that point shut down servers? If the feature is required for their games, thats moving more and more toward a future in which we aren't buying copies to games, but rather the rights to play them that can be taken away at any moment

Halo 5’s Warzone did a version of cloud hybrid gaming. All PvE enemies were in the cloud and rest of the game ran locally + PvP dedicated server

I'm not a fan of this push to all digital consoles because the end result is no more physical games which means you'll never "own" them, you'll only ever rent them while they're in the library. Plus no ability to reject patches and no resale.

I actually use NVidia's cloud gaming service, GeForce NOW. I have my laptop with barebones hardware hooked with an ethernet cable and while there is a somewhat noticable delay, it's not bad enough to be a hinderance. There are cloud gaming options for low end hardware, but if your internet is slow too, there's not much you can do. If internet tech continues to get better then mid range providers should provide a reliable experience (you're essentially sending 8 bytes of information for controller input and recieving a frame of video 60 times a second), but cloud required games sounds like a mess for anyone with poor or inconsistent internet or for anyone who dislikes DRM.

I actually really like the cloud hybrid idea, the only part that scares me is you will need internet 24/7 and internet outages aren’t exactly uncommon, at least in a lot of the US.
