One of my best recent finds was my solar system table lamp; a model solar system with all the planets (plus Pluto!) with a lightbulb functioning as the sun in the center. I got it at a flea market for $20! A little pricier than your finds Kristen, but this lamp is so unique it was worth the money to me.

You can still buy them some places and plastic ones, too. The plastic ones last longer if you buy good plastic and can be washed and won't hold the bacteria that natural ones do

Love the thrifted air B&B idea! I work a small part time (kinda volunteer) job at a non profit community shop.... I love the old and used items! Recycle, reuse, reduce.... repurpose, and so on!

Amazing finds! 4:15 these are basically 'paper plate holders', we use these party or fiesta back in the Philippines but yes! I never thought of using them as organiser trays!

Hi Kristen, Greetings from the North Island of New Zealand. The Cane chair is my favorite, the Cane Latice seat on it makes it a very special piece. I visited an elderly retired couple many years ago in Conoga Park, Los Angeles, Estelle was an Artist and her home decor was absolutely beautiful, I've never forgotten about their beautiful home out there in the San Fernando Valley, I was 25 then and approaching 65 now. Those "flat baskets" are sold in sets to use as a "plate supporter" for paper plates... summer time, picnic or whenever

You can also use the square/tissue basket to conceal one of those oil diffusers for a more "decorative/organic" look (instead of looking like a gadget in your beautifully decorated room). I've been looking for a solution for mine and I think this would be a great option!

Years ago I used two tall back, wooden, woven seat chairs as my bedside tables and used that very caned tray on the chair seat to make it flat so I could put my coffee cups on them ❤️

HELLO there, The thin round flat 1.99 baskets are so helpful. I'm not sure about the original use but my family has always used them for paper plate holders. Years ago i made a basket wall like you have talked about before and a long time ago 45yrs. ago my grandaddy wanted to know why the plate holders was hanging on the wall. lol yes you guess it right we're from the south ❣

I don't know if you've done anything with the cane chair, but there are many stain options out there. There's even dark almost black if you want to stain it instead of painting.

Those flat baskets actually appear to be paper plate holders! We had a set like that in the 90’s lol. Love the idea though, I’ll be on the lookout for some when I go thrifting next. And I think the cane chair would look so lovely with a walnut finish or even a sagey, dusty green colour that’s kinda muted and soft.

I’m fine with you painting it. When a piece “runs” you; I don’t think it makes sense. Decor is about making your environment feel good, not letting your decor control you.

You should def do some kind of two tone thing with the chair! I love the little wood handle details near the seat. So keep those wood and maybe paint the middle spindles and top part of the back rest. Use a trendy color you pick so well, and give it a Scandinavian vibe. :)

The chair you should do a pickled finish so it has a drift wood appearance.

I moved to new city and the prices at the thrift stores has increased. Its the same as buying it new. Before I moved, I found a cool decor sculpture set of 2 I gave as gifts to an a friend into ethnic prints

I’m no expert but I wouldn’t paint the chair. Those chairs are timeless. Shine it up with some min wax? And get a colorful cushion for the seat and a soft throw blanket over the back!

Keep the chair as is it’s so beautiful. I love a mix of real wood with white and cream decor. Put a throw pillow blanket on it. I think you’ll regret painting it. That trend is on its way out.

You should TOTALLY paint the chair white! It would be very monochromatic. Or maybe a really light tone of a color in your home. Like a pastel. Like a sage! Or maybe a really light, almost gray, wood stain.

While I'm against painting old wood pieces in general (especially when people paint over the beautiful wood paneling in old houses) I think that the orangey tone of your cane chair could use a refresh. Maybe painting in a dark blue or forest green to add some variety? I also like the idea you suggested of painting a graphic design on the wall baskets to give them more visual interest. Keep up the great work!

I think staining the chair would look better than painting just because of the style of it. If you paint the caning I feel like it would look cheap? So if you do decide to paint it maybe just paint the wood and not the caning
