Enjoyed this video thank you. Generally speaking, change is good. However, the ‘why’ of these Instagram moves is perhaps worth exploring. Do they come out of a nimble strategy that keeps up with fashions or do they merely mimic what is currently working for other platforms, thus playing catch-up?

What I’m excited about, specifically about curated feeds, is that it’ll showcase more creatives just like you. This curated aspect will change the way you follow and are followed because you’ll be exposed to a more dynamic way of seeing other accounts. Previously, it was only if you stumbled across accounts that appealed to you that you discovered others (or they, you). This way, the cycle of following and unfollowing will be more dynamic and flexible. This address the staid and same/same feed of others and hopefully fixes the malaise highlighted in the Jonny video of ages ago stating that if you’re bored with your feed, then it’s your fault.

Looking at the UI i'm thinking people won't really get away from HOME that often .Plus I don't think it's in the interest of IG to lead people into a narrower field of accounts , doesn't really make sense . All of this seems like more flexibility for users which is always good but i'm afraid it could be really harder for " small new creators " to be visible/reach ... 🤔. There's kind of a conflict within this upcoming update imo.

Even as a user, more curation on my default feed means LESS control, especially combined with the new focus on video. It's annoying that I now end up scrolling for long periods where ONLY videos are showing up.

I think it all hinges on which tab is set as the default tab that users see when they open the app. If it is set to 'Home' by default and users have to manually switch to 'Following' or 'Favourites' I doubt we will see an increase in engagement as content creators.

I am not sure how excited I am about this but time will tell…When you say curated feed; did you mean IG will automatically take our posts to our favourites accounts or Following…I am a bit confused how curated fees will help? If you can could you go more into simpler terms or ways of understanding? Like through an example or if you can do another video as a tutorial regarding this new curated feed…I am interested to make this work for my IG…Love your videos always!! 🤗❤️

Curated means Instagram will choose posts from people you do and don’t follow that it thinks you will like. This also means Instagram may show your posts to more people.

I use both a Macbook and and iPhone for IG - The Macbook ( with an Ad Blocker) for the history feed of those I'm Following so I can interact with them and the iPhone for a chronological list of those who have liked my posts so I can interact there. This is clumsy on the Macbook as this list always defaults back after each interaction but the iPhone list remains where I left it after each interaction so much easier to scroll if there are a lot of likes for a post.. Interestingly with the Macbook Ad Blocker the home feed is an uncluttered dream compared with the iPhone.

Im just waiting on instagram to fix the "cropping" system. Tired of having to ruin my photographs by cropping them down or using a white border to fully fit my photograph in, A possible thing instagram will fix future on?? doubt it.

These constant changes appear to be the acts of a social media platform that is desparately trying to compete with a newer social media platform (TikTok) that is experiencing the same rapid growth that Instagram had as a new platform. Instagram wants to be TikTok and it is never going to be that platform and shot gunning all these 'improvements' that cast aside long time users of the platform to get users who prefer TikTok is so disrespectful.

The new home format is PUTRID. I hate it. My home feed is now 80% sponsored and suggested posts, no longer who i follow. Disgusting.
