You missed out the huge point that the parent company, Xsolla whom we as players payed under BitBox, are also collecting the money this time. So there is objectively zero seperation of finances, and players who now pay the subscription are paying for the exact same digital bits as before.

I've seen a few good Minecraft modpacks that add in friendly, neutral, and hostile medieval kingdoms, but.... yeah. Not really much outside of that. EDIT: Although, didn't Medieval Dynasty get a multiplayer update? Not an MMO, sure, but... may be the closest we get to one for a while.

I absolutely loved LiF YO. It got me crazy hyped for the mmo. I looked at the map for hours wondering where would be the coolest place to start out. Then they later announced that mmo would be a separate purchase and would require a subscription. They later did end up giving people who bought lif YO a key, but only after a lot of backlash. I managed to play about 1 hour of testing on the mmo and I rubberbanded back so far it erased 20 minutes of running. I decided to give up and never look back.

Everything you have said is true. We are playing and having fun on the game. And they have actually started changing things that ruins the combat. Hopefully they will get that all fixed. But what they should have done was to do some major fixes and add a few new features and things BEFORE launching and also as you said have a roadmap ready. They might be able to get things done down the line. But they are losing momentum doing it this way.

I played LifYO alot and it was an amazing game, cause you had different servers : roleplay, pvp/non-pvp, different settings of rules, how you gain skills and progress etc. But the MMO... my God i just went in and saw empty world with few guild settlement where you are forced to join the guild tto do ANYTHING and then give up on your real life to gain any skills to be able to do ANYTHING... It is just a bad design - a game targeted for people that are one with their chair. Each tiny piece of content is hidden behind a massive grindwall and fakely spreaded in time.

Also, I'm 100% with you - I'm not paying twice for this crap. I REALLY wanted to like it, and have gone back to Your Own in the recent few years just to feel something again from it, but even having heavily adjusted mechanics and exp rates, it just has bad mechanics and design that stops the flow of fun eventually. You can't have fun solo, and in a group it's not much better. Combat sucks, the herbalism sucks, there's almost no user-friendliness or QoL at all, just a bunch of bad menus and things to keep up with that have no good guides even on official wiki's. And NOW they want a ridiculous $20/mo sub?? Like man, WoW is less than that for a massively successful, competitive, and high-standard game

Make up your mind .. either you hate micro transaction or you don't. The only way you are not going to get micro transactions is to have a game that has a subscription. The developers need to make a living somehow. You can either do B2p, B2p with microtransactions, free to play with microtransactions or a subscription. $20 for a month of entertainments is cheap, even if you only play 1 hour a day. Because this is a niche game at B2P model will not sustain the game. It is very much like Mortal Online 2 and requires a subscription to be viable.

Just rebought it a couple hours ago. I tried to use my old character's name from when BitBox was the owner of the IP and it said that the name was already in use. Asked around and everyone who tried to use their old names met the same problem. I'm guessing that they're using the old database that have our old characters from BitBox's version. So our old characters still exist, but we have no way to access them. Pretty upsetting to find out the character that I spent forever skilling up because of timegated xp pools is there, but not reachable.

A friend dragged me into this game - noob after the wipe. For everything that they get right there is 100 things most players would stop playing over. I kind of found something exciting to do, running across the map to make a ninja farm so we'd have carrots for horses. It's sad that apart from fighting knools, the occasional person that attacks the base, and ninja carrot, not much exciting yet. The group I'm with all played before and keep telling me how epic it will get once the wars start. Whelp coin duping, now the battle instances aren't working, and I think I heard something about being able to drop a battle totem that costed nothing? The bugs have been insane. I'll keep playing because I enjoy hanging with my friends until I can convince them to play just about anything else.

I have over 2000 hours of LIF:YO and another 1500 on the MMO. I loved that game and had a really good bunch of friends to play with. When I heard it was coming back I was SO excited, joined the discord, read about everything you mention especially the $20 a month, it has to be a scam, no other explanation

Bitbox breached contract, Xsolla had exclusive distributing rights, then bitbox tired to get a Chinese publisher to distribute their game also. Leading to this entire mess. IDK why people think Bitbox was screwed by Xsolla, Bitbox breached the contract and screwed themselves.

the larger issue is that the very premise of the game falls flat after a mere second of scrutiny. the game is based around having your own kingdom and working as part of a community. BUT this means that almost every player will want to have their own kingdom which means they will need to get their own serfs (aka new players) who themselves will want to become king. unless your relying on players going hard on coups or democracy you will be left with players who are stuck as workers, and people will never want a second job that they have to pay to do with only a suggestion of promotion later. people want to play games for escapism not to role play a farmer every evening. its why there is alot of aprehension around "anvil empires" which has a simmilar premise but at least has some hope thanks to the current game the devs are making called foxhole. if you design your game just right around player made economies it can work, but it is not easy and is like trying to build a nuclear reactor out of mud. possible but will almost certainly result in everyone getting burnt

You don't seem to be fully aware of why Bitbox lost LIFMMO... It didn't die within months, it lasted a couple of years before a bad business arrangement forced them to lose their project. You complain about mechanics that are based on reality... LIF is meant to have these restrictions, as life does... you think waiting 2 weeks for an oak tree to grow to it's full potential is bad... well IRL it's 50+ years... I find your review to accurate only to a certain point... but parts of it seem to be complaining about LIF not being an instant gratification style game...

If you are looking for a persistent medieval mmo that is actually being developed and isn't a cash grab, check out Anvil Empires. Unlike LIF Anvil Empires is a lot less grindy and way more fun, mostly due to the game having factions and not being realistic with how long to do things. They just held a test to test the persistent world for about 72 hours straight. The game is in a randomly selected invite only pre-alpha right now but could be in early access end of this year or early next year.

Feels like you didn't play the game or understand it very well. Waiting for trees is a part of the game concept, it makes natural forest a resource early on. The game has a lot of flaws, but you never seem to get the issues right, you just rant about the game being bad "Spending years to make a monument to prevent people from griefing your town" this line tells me how out of touch you are with how the game actually works.

A lot of stuff needs balancing, but you really don't have to play 10 hours a day, you just need a big guild, that's the point of the game. You aren't supposed to build a castle keep solo. The main reason people think it's grindy, is because they want to do everything alone or with a couple of friends. Well that's just not the kind of game LIF is.

The guild I played with before was always outnumbered, but we made up for it with good teamwork and strong defenses. No it wasn't. The game was originally pay to play but they eventually moved it over to free to play when it was becoming obvious that they were experiencing problems financially. So Resonant is 100% correct. I can only assume that you started playing late on in 2019/2020 when the pricing model changed. Most of us long-term players actually paid for the game upfront.
