Honestly what I'm getting from this is that, cumulatively, we have a _lot of time on our hands._ A project that would take a billion years to complete by one person might only take 1/8th of a year if we could get everyone on the planet to work on it in parallel. Sure, a lot of that time is "wasted", but a very significant portion of it isn't. Thanks for the positive message JREG!

Imagine an AI that can divide up a big problem into many many many smaller tasks. Then gather a network of workers who are educated in various fields and are open to solving small problems for a small amount of money on the side, stuff you could do at home. The AI would send out tasks based on the worker's qualifications, each task would be rapidly solved, and then the AI would combine the output to complete the bigger task. It's sort of like using a network of humans as a decentralized processor node.

@@shipwreck9146​​⁠cool idea, actually! sites/apps like that already exist to an extent but i mostly see them used by and marketed to less specialized workers. it’s a viable side hustle that you could pick up rn but it’s mostly a way for people to make more money off your time vs any grand causes. when you have a bunch of freelancers signing up online from home for a side thing and no way to prove their qualifications you aren’t going to get work that’s as high quality, so that isn’t a reasonable expectation. unfortunately.
