I do an offseason routine of taking everything >=9 speed out of my bag. Leopard, Leopard3, TL3, and Teebird give me 4 different stabilities and just focusing on those 4 discs is helping me be a lot more consistent in my form and I'm landing in the fairway a lot more often. Yes, I'm 30-50 shorter than with faster discs, , but being in the fairway a lot more means the upshots are a lot easier. I'll start adding faster discs back into my bag in March or so.

I like this! I tend to do something similar each winter and take stuff out that isn’t fully helping me (e.g., distance drivers). Past couple years it was stick with fairways and below for a while. This year I’m trying midranges and below, and so far so good! It’s kinda like when I tried a putter-only round for the first time - opening my eyes to what I can do with my midranges, helping me get to know them better and have better control (with the overall goal of adding distance with them that my fairways could more easily achieve).

I did this exact same thing this past fall and saw a good amount of improvement by learning to use fewer discs that fit my game and my shots

I decided to make a winter bag. Paired down from 20-24 discs down to 16. While I’m not necessarily scoring better, it is allowing me to better select what I want to carry. I am still a firm believer that you need over, and under stable versions of putters, mids, fairways, and distance drivers.
@caseysmith544Ай бұрын
Going the Philo Route even with all easier to wear in discs is hard unless you are a pro player who can keep multiple backups of discs in different wear in the Over Stable, Neutral, and Under Stable categories because you play that much and then keeping the discs with a marking to know the wear/stability at the time of getting the discs. Only in Max/True Distance divers do I have a Valkyrie like disc in the Archon in Star (I have backups) or a Champion Destroyer as I manly use the Archon or pair down to fairway/control distance Valkyrie for the driver if I need between the two discs. I also do not have a max OS disc in Fairway with the Stalker around 170--172 grams as OS as I go as I will use my Champion Destroyers one at 167 grams other at 170 grams depending on conditions as the 170 gram due to weight is more OS.

@daniellarrabee9741Ай бұрын
I'm glad you talk about this subject specifically because it helps you hone in what can be done and that's only possible with fewer discs. Some of my best rounds consistent wise came from only bringing 3 or 4 discs and it was eye opening for sure!
@caseysmith544Ай бұрын
The tip I have is if the disc only has a single use case and that is not a Water floating disc it comes out of the bag and with this in mind even my Dragon has 2 purposes. Before I had a few discs that only worked in exact shot scenarios in the 2000's up to about 2009 until 2016 as in 2015 I stopped playing. The eliminating of those molds helped my Disc Golf journey get better like a G-9i Wizard that was illegal anyhow but eliminating the Wizard helped as did eliminating the Sting Ray because the mold could not be used in winds greater then 5--10 mph even after getting a 177--178 gram, I found the Shark around 175 gram weight to work best for my game. The other is was replacing my Left disc with something more comfortable the Archer I am able to use on more then one shot type including some backhand rollers on harder surfaces.

RHBH Plasma proxy. Edit.. didn’t know I was at school.. should have known as class is in session when watching Robbie C. Ok with the head wind I’m still going plasma proxie but now going straight at it instead of a turnover. With a right to left I’m going back to the turnover with my proxy but maybe a little more height. At 304 I’m probably going to my beat up eclipse hex and I’m probably going to play it safe throwing flat and low kinda in that 260-280 range and walk up confidently bc I just nailed that shot knowing I’m gonna hit the putt. I didn’t risk ob for the bird and if I do miss I got an easy par while at least 1 of my card mates went ob.

Best thing I ever did for someone throwing under 300 is taking everything over a 7 speed out of my bag. However, play way better with just a Signal, Servo and and envy. So, I get it. And congrats on the baby! Happy new year brother
@TherealPapaDogPАй бұрын
About a year or two ago I reduced my bag to 9 molds. The staples are Valkyrie, Caiman, Invader. The other discs are Heat, Volt, Cherry (sometimes this slot is filled by Hex, Mako3, Pathfinder, or Buzzz), Toro, and the newest addition being the Notion.

I still carry a shoulder (messenger) style bag that only holds 14 discs. That is the way I prefer it. I like to run light and fast on the course because quite often I play 36 holes in a day on weekends so a heavy bag just tires you. I carry a couple of distance drivers and a couple of putters…the remainder is an array of fairway,mid and approach stuff that will cover 90% of what most folks bags will. I almost never find myself wanting. Almost… but not enough to carry a larger bag.

That Felon looks to be similar to my Cosmic Neutron Tesla... Grab that sucker, throw it RHBH OH (overhead) ... land it on the ground about 20ft out... and on a 1pm angle.... on a calm day big flat field... Soft throw you can nearly drop it at your feet... Hard throw you can stretch out to 30ft... (and if you have a cosmic Neutron Tesla... Yeet that sucker the same way too... Go-On... you know your curious now...

Think it’s so important to understand how all our discs operate in all conditions. I think we should understand how even our understable discs operate in a headwind and what happens when we throw it with less power or more hzyer etc etc. Do that process with all your discs in all conditions. You might learn a certain disc can do things that could be useful in situations you didn’t anticipate. So maybe the conventual wisdom might not be the best choice for your situation. Maybe you do throw a detour into a headwind because you need a shot shape that the detour can do in a headwind.
