On a sunny February day, I hiked out from the cove in Seaside, Oregon to photograph these massive shorebreak. There are a few locals that will threaten people taking photos, so I kept my camera hidden until I was away from people towards second point. It was amazing to take in the power and beauty of the ocean!

Haha, they’re still known as the boyz? Looks like most of these shots aren’t the point boyz locale. Or at least the locale they give a shit about it. Indian beach in one shot pretty sure. But looks like at least one or two short scenes are on location.

You're welcome. Nature is there to be enjoyed by all. We need to respect it, and respect each other. But I believe God's love is present in nature and I find such peace in that beauty, and want to share that with others.

I personally don’t understand this. I do fully agree these places, these moments, are where god and the definition of beauty it’s self often lies. Although many of these places were often respected and visited less in the past. The more people i see at mount hood in flocks, short sands, the list goes on. The more trash i see. The more crowded these places get. It’s too easy for people to find. I think everyone should have equal access, but when openly advertised so easily it tends to bring trouble. The surf communities for example tend to have an unspoken rule. Don’t “blow the spot”. Enjoyment, yes. Fair access, yes. Taking care of the spot absolutely. Photos, yes. Be careful how much your disclosing though. Do not post location.

They are really territorial of "their" wave. When it breaks, it's really good, but also dangerous. So they don't word getting out about it.
@J_Smith7

Crowds are a significant factor in surfing and favorable conditions are a limited resource. Many world class spots around the world are "over crowded" in that on a good day getting a favorable wave is very competitive- you may not actually get one. Look at the history of Lances right and Lanes Left- in large part due to surf media exposure the island is semi built up with resorts and the surrounding channel with boats, so on good days its no longer a handful of surfers out in a desolate setting which so many outdoor enthusiasts enjoy- not just surfers. In the case of seaside not all the locals are mean spirited and if one is proficient enough at surfing they very much can surf the point, but the sharing of documentation as proven by countless other world class spots just isnt in the best interest of surfers who want to surf a day of quality waves and not have to compete with 50 people in the water. How much it precisely influences crowds, is up for debate, but there are countless examples which clearly show surf media does indeed increase the number of people surfing at a spot. There are other factors like accessibility, cold, etc but documentation has proven even prior to the internet to play a significant role in motivating people to frequent "X" spot, even if it requires difficult traveling conditions. At this point there are enough resources available for surfers to discover existing less documented spots and even those that are not. Let people find it some what on their own? I think its a tough call, but in the cases of world class points like Malibu, Snappers, and...many others crowds are so high it significantly takes away from what all surfers enjoy. Seaside has factors like it being cold, sharky, and relatively out of the way of a major metropolis to keep surf population numbers down (if Portland was directly on the coast the point would regularly be totally zood out :), but the reality is surf media and the internet has led to over crowding at spots and so far has contributed to an increase in numbers at Seaside. In my opinion i think surf media can exist but there is a fine balance between directly promoting the spot and sharing in a more indiscrete form with no name calling and directions :) Hopefully a spot like seaside some day and other world class spots wont require lottery drawings like some hiking spots due to overcrowding.

Hey man! This is cool footage etc. Just to let you know a lot of people might have a problem with the exploitation of these specific waves in the surf community. With the advent of technology into our lives posting beaches causes over crowding. The particular beach you’ve posted tends to be aggressively protected. I would be careful personally posting some of the curling waves in Oregon. At least doing so and telling where it is.
@Zoomdak

Hi there, thanks so much for sharing your perspective. I agree as this particular spot can get really dangerous especially when it gets this big. And that the surfers here are quite territorial as well. Thanks.

That’s cool of you to respond like this! I think it’s the disclosing of the places location that’s problematic. If you agree why is it still something that’s in the description as far as almost exact location? Just curious. Like i said i like what you do overall.
@edwinatollstoy4837

Are you surprised he responded? He literally responds to every comment. Maybe the only person who has done so in the history of KZbin. Good thing? Or just a little too hungry for any attention he can get? Could be why he named the spot. In any case it was a well known attention hungry surfer of old who got the spot localized in the first place.

I appreciate the the effort it takes to hike and trevel around the coast and get quality shots- its not easy and takes more time later to process and upload. So hats off to you for that, but saying "its already a well known spot" is subjective and at times untrue in that if you travel to popular parts of the world for surfing....a lot of surfers have never heard of seaside. In some core areas some do. In PNW...surprisingly quite a few surfers as well or rather they have heard of the town and surfing but are not aware really of how good the wave is. In alot of ways its not a well known spot. It really depends on who you talk to and where you are. If you are implying that because a spot is well known there are zero negative things about sharing it- well some would say its shortsighted due to the subjectivity of "well known." I like your work, but I am a fan of more mysterious and indiscrete natural documentation- not just in surfing. Maybe you can do a serious of mysterious location photography. Like treasure hunt spots. @@Zoomdak
