I buy insulated grocery bags (US from Sam's Club or Costco) because it gets hot where I live and the nearest main stores are 30-40 minute drive from us. They are large and keep foods cool, I've had the same 6 (huge) bags for almost 10 years!

Probably not too ideal but ikea blue bags are brilliant for carrying lots of shopping to and from the car and house and fold up small enough to take in the shop or leave at your car boot ready to fill and take into your house

Anyone handy with a sewing machine? Denim fabric, big beach totes with heavy duty handle/straps. Charity shops also get lots of them. 1 bag to carry them all, rolled up. I also have insulated bags, zippered.

I keep three collapsible containers in my car to fill with all the groceries to avoid any bagging at out self checkout only stores. A friend actually uses laundry baskets. I like the collapsible so I can break them down to make room for sports equipment etc…

Honestly not sure why people even use plastic bags from the supermarket.. There are so many other options for reusable bags. I dont have a large family so i just use my linnen/canvas bags. But there are other options. Also crates/foldable crates moght be an idea for you easy to pack the shopping in them and easy to carry into the house. Then you can flatten them down so they dont take up all the space in the car when theyre empty x

Here in Canada there haven't been plastic shopping bags for a couple of years. We can buy reusable bags or buy the paper ones for 5 cents each. Great grocery haul as usual. Can't wait for a meal prep!!

try the nylon fold up bags. They are really strong and fold up small. They are also washable. Also collect some cardboard boxes. Thats what i use. admittedly I am only one person but i still think id go that route if i had a large family.

I am slowly replacing my plastic bags with the freezer bags from Coles, they are easy to fold and several fit into one of them, packing into the car after shopping they slot in neatly, also easy to wipe over if needed. The Aldi freezer bags are not shaped, and not easily folded either. My daughter is going to Scotland next week with two of her children, she is going to use the freezer bags for their carry on bags, not heavy to carry and easy to lift up into the overhead cupboards on the plane,

Groceries are cheap in Australia. We spent just over $300 on Monday in New Zealand for our weekly shop & got a pitiful amount of groceries for that price.

Paper bags are not strong enough to recycle. I have lots of the refrigerator bags, they're very strong and zip closed. The large Ikea bags are ideal for big lightweight bulky items like cereal boxes and tissue paper. I store my bags in the car, folded inside one larger bag, you'll never forget your bags and you can put heavy items on top of them.

Have you thought about getting one of those three tier hard plastic pantry storage things for your jars to make it easier to access the jars and see what you have there. I say this because I noticed that the Passata is kinda hidden behind everything else meaning that you’ll have to move all the other jars to get to them, the three tier thing would make it easier. I think you can get them from Kmart. You can also use them for tins and herbs and spices

In the US, a lot of people have switched to reusable cloth bags, many of which have hard plastic liners for the bottom and/or sides that make them almost like a box with handles. It would be an investment, but it would probably work better in the long run than the paper bags which seem to rip so often.
