Hi Laura and Aaron, Amanda here from Australia in regards to the Kangaroo Paw, these should do really well in your dry, arid high desert area. I know that you might have to start them “indoors” because of your zone, but they are so worthwhile! I use them in cut flower arrangements and they are quite long-lasting. So great to see you using some beautiful natives from Aus. Love your channel, and even here in country NSW, you would be amazed at how many people come up to me when I wear your Garden Answer hoodie say “this is our favourite garden channel”!!!

You're going to love the Kumquat. Slice crosswise to put in drinks. I once made a syrup by macerating in sugar until a syrup forms; great in drinks. This recipe was a great hit at a 4th of July party once: melt white chocolate and pour into mini baking cups, set a slice of strawberry, a raspberry, a blueberry and a slice of kumquat peel into the soft white chocolate and let set. The kumquat just makes it taste so delicious and fruity. You'll love it!

The ascot euphorbia is a seedling found by LAMBLEY NURSERY in Victoria Australia, you should check out their website as they are very popular with real garden lovers in Melbourne and Victoria. It’s is a fabulous dry tolerant euphoria. Take lots of cuttings from it as they look great mass planted. Also the kangaroo paw needs very little water. I believe they are difficult to start from seeds as many Australian plants need a smoke treatment first ( not sure if this does) Enjoy your Aussie plants!.

You two are the epitome of finding something you love, And making it your job. When you have that ,sometimes it’s hard to make yourself stop working at your “job” and do something else for a day. But that’s okay too. I’m an artist and I love what I do as well. Putting that topiary into that white pot! What an instant gratification. It’s beautiful now. Like putting Cinderella in her ball gown.

Hi Laura! Peter is a good friend (pre "How's it Growing" haha!) His pots do come with saucers to match. The one you purchased is part of his wholesale line made by his awesome team in Honduras. These are sold in nurseries and garden centers. When ordering from Wakefield directly, the pots are hand made, one at at time, by him personally at his studio. Love the myrtle and the pot! I plant dianthus as a ground cover, they spread easily & "gently" without being invasive. They completely cover the plants with long lived flowers for about 2.5 mos and leave a beautiful frosty blue green carpet of foliage after the flowers fade. The faded flowers are easy to dead head with scissors or mini electric shears, since they tend to fade all at once making grooming simple. But shear the faded flowers off, give them a quick hand fluff and they continue with a consistant lighter, re-blooming until frost.

What an uplifting video! The rosemary variety you purchased is the type I use as skewers for kabobs on the bbq. The long straight stems are perfect. Strip the leaves, dry the stems if they’re too playable and then add your meat & veggies. The stems add the rosemary flavor to the kabob while cooking. Yum!

Cyclamens you bought are Cyclamen persicum which are not hardy in your zone. But you can try Cyclamen hederifolium or Cyclamen coum, which should be hardy in your zone and are for sure worth to try. I would plant them under some deciduous trees and shrubs and maybe somewhere where the soil stays more moist during winter, as that is their growing season.

We are in Texas and I keep the Cyclamen outside until 33 degrees. Mine bloomed until April. Once they die back you can keep them in containers in a dry, shaded area (e.g. under your table in the cold frame). They go dormant for about 7 months. Started to sprout again in November. I watered them a few times while dormant. Not all made it and you gave pots sitting around for 7 month ms looking blah. Yet, it was a fun experiment, inspired by one of your videos on wintering over plants.

@@meagantrout2127 that’s what I thought for years. 😂 Watched a KZbin video on how to winter ( summer) them over. They grow naturally in the Mediterranean and go dormant through the brutal summer heat. It takes a lot of patience and a place to store. My front porch is covered and facing North. It was an ideal spot to store them, They have gotten so expensive that it’s worth the effort.

This is not specific to this video but I live in Hawaii (zone 100 😂) and recently went to WA to take my son on a college visit. I was so excited to finally see some of the plants in person you often speak about. Dogwoods I think with a ton of buds, evergreens, some type of life emerging from the ground. I was so very exited. Hi Laura and Aaron! It was fun seeing all of the pretty plants and colors. I think you guys should buy the massage chairs to use after a day gardening. Thank you so much for sharing!

What a nice group of colorful flowers. They are so pretty. I love the myrtle topiary in the white pot. I have one in my greenhouse . It does great. When I trim it I always make starts from the cuttings. They are vary easy to root. You and Aaron make a great team. 💗💗

oh, yes. The hummingbirds do like the candycane vine. I had mine in a hanging basket, it went both up and down from there.

My family got me a massage chair for Mother’s Day one year. The family joke is it was the best Mother’s Day gift because the whole family uses it.

Hi! Am learning so much from these amazing videos!! Don't know if this tip was mentioned before but when I pot plants in pots with the drainage hole I put a used laundry dryer sheet over the hole. It stops any soil leaking out of the pot onto the saucer and allows water to easily drain. I make sure that the sheets have been used a couple of times to lessen the chemicals on them. Hope this helps!!

Hello! When you mentioned that you wish you had gotten a few more ivy plants, my first thought was to just take some cuttings!! Ivy roots so easily and presto!!!! More ivy plants!! Happy gardening and have a wonderful day!!

There are some cyclamen that are hardy to -10. They are called ‘hardy cyclamen’ in our area (zone 6A). The blooms and leaves are a little smaller but they come back reliably around here.

Wintergreen! I was so excited to see that. It's very much a 'native' here in coastal New England (Cape Cod) in our own little woodland it spreads nicely as well in the Nature walks in Protected lands. Hubby and I both have childhood memories of picking and eating these berries. I think they were used to make the original life saver flavor, but that might have been a local wive's tale? You can make tea with the berries as well, they always make me think of forest walks. Once my hubbies aging grandmother (who was a great plantswoman) in her dotage almost had my hubby , as a child, eat the berries on poison ivy, mistaking them for these. Luckily , he was old enough and aware enough to say, "No, sorry nan, we can't eat those!" LOVE the plant haul.

Love a colorful garden center in winter! FYI, the miniature daffodil variety is Tête-à-Tête. For years now, I have saved my used dryer sheets for covering holes in the bottom of pots. The potting medium stays in and water drains out. Also, it’s one less thing going in the landfill. Additionally, the dryer sheets do not disintegrate…

Potato and lime bags from the grocery have a mesh side and a non-mesh or plastic side. The mesh side works great in the bottom of a pot to keep soil in but let water drain out. Fold the mesh in half before placing in the pot if you need a finer mesh.

You're so lucky. Garden centers around me don't have flowers like that this time of year. Just green house plants. Envious!

Beautiful choices! I wondered if you have thought about adding some hanging pots in your greenhouse? I love going into garden centers where plants and flowers seem to envelop me.
