When will a production company leaves a studio - 1) when ur movies get dumped into streaming (Hbo max) 2) when u think ur movies may get cancelled at last moment after movie is completed ( Batgirl) 3) when they don't have clear idea of where to take ur cinematic universe ( monsterverse, DCeU) 4) when ur parent company changes every 4 years like elections and president changes ( discovery, At&T)

I had so much hope earlier this year when Zaslav took over, it felt like he was trimming the fat or cutting out rotten tissue. Now it almost feels he can’t tell the difference between health and unhealthy tissue.

I feel the same way. While I think it's a good thing to pivot projects that can have a financial longevity, cancelling already made projects like Batgirl do bring a worrying precedent to creators trusting on WB. And about the unhealthy tissue part, I do already see it in regards with how he's been treating the animation department (Scoob 2 he did them a favor though), I hope that it can turn into a case of quality over quantity in the end, but I find it worrying how several, and I mean SEVERAL animation projects got axed. And taking off the "Family Entertainment" banner from HBO Max. Like, how do you do treat to two giants of the animation industry like WB Animation and Cartoon Network Studios like that?

With everything going on at WBD, I don't see why Legendary would re-up with them. I know John very much likes the new leadership, but all they've done is make everyone around them feels unwelcomed. After seeing what Warner Bros. Discovery can do to your projects, why would you contiously re-up a deal with that company? Zaslav has shot WB in the foot big time and if Legendary leaves them, it's just over. In 2023, it's gonna be like this: Dune: Part 2 releases with Universal, the new HBO-Discovery streaming services gets no subs because it's 25$ a month and they have no interesting genre content and John is gonna say "Well, it's all Jason Killars fault".

It's funny how WB says the reason why they're taking so many shows off of HBO Max is because they want to keep HBO premium. But then they're planning to merge HBO Max with Discovery Plus, which is just full of cheap reality shows. Legendary already broke with WB before and last time it did the distribution rights to the Monsterverse films stayed at WB. Legendary tried to get a King Kong film off the ground at Universal,but couldn't make it work so Universal allowed them to take it over to WB and create an actual shared universe by pairing it with the Godzilla/Toho franchise license they kept from the 2014 Godzilla film which was the last Legendary project at WB until Kong Skull Island.

I can understand why both Paramount and Sony are in the running for getting Legendary since they're the only ones that they haven't worked with. Sony being the frontrunner isn't surprising considering the success they've had with films like Jumanji, Ghostbusters, Venom, Spider-Man, and most recently with Uncharted and Bullet Train; sure, they're still spotty as usual, but with the kickstart of PlayStation Productions, having Legendary as their creative partners and co-producing their projects could give them a strong push. Also, Sony has output development deals with Netflix and Amazon Prime for their tv shows, which Legendary also has, and have stayed firm in continue theatrical, which is what Legendary wants. Although, I agree with Kristian, in regards to Paramount needing a creative partner like them, despite the success they've had with Sonic 2 and Top Gun Maverick. Because with their partnership from Skydance Media declining to the split of Platinum Dunes and the departure of Bad Robot, Paramount needs a major creative partner to set them on a successful financial longevity for projects. Something that, outside of Transformers and Mission Impossible, have struggled during the 2010s. Also, they need to push a strong creative brand to that Paramount+ can flourish, as well as the projects they're developing with Hasbro and eOne. So either one of the two can suit a good place for Legendary

I think there is more than a good chance Legendary goes somewhere new. One might say but new leadership and so forth but the fact of the matter is WB has been a hot potato for the last few years. There is no insurance that five years down the line they will be sold to someone else add the fact the new boss is looking like a penny pincher and they might want to try somewhere new.

Netflix gets to have movies in theaters which will give them some extra revenue if the movies do well and Legendary gets to produce their movies without too much studio interference. Win-win. Also Netflix could have all of Legendary's movies exclusive to Netflix for however long the deal is in place

And they could make some more revenue by having movies in theaters. Legendary pays just for the production and Netflix pays just to market and distribute the films. i guess i'm late to the party here........there is a Godzilla vs. Kong sequel coming???!! I didn't expect that to happen. The 1st one was ok. Good G-man action i guess, but they made Mechagodzilla bit too invincible IMO and i don't know...it just didn't feel right. Not after KOTM, which IMO was the best G film ever made. What i've been saying since KOTM is that they need to turn the events of that film into Godzilla vs. Megalon. In the Japanese film, Megalon was turned loose by the Seatopians who were tired of us on the surface detonating bombs that messed up their habitat. Well.....that underwater civilization we saw right before they detonated the nuke to revive Godzilla....that plays right into this very plot. Surely they can turn this into a previously unknown civilization that has been living there all along, without us ever knowing. Would be great to see one of my favorite Godzilla adversaries brought to the big screen with modern CGI.

With the financial success of Uncharted, and how it kicked off PlayStation Productions to a steady start, set to continue with The Last Of Us and Twisted Metal TV shows, I could definitely see Legendary Pictures bringing a co-financing and creative input in bringing their upcoming projects to life. And that's another thing I noticed about Legendary, outside of the main flagship names of DC and such, they want to make different projects from one another

That Disney Kong show is unrelated to the Monsterverse. That show is it’s own thing. Legendary is not involved with it. The Godzilla show on Apple TV+ is part of the Monsterverse, with Legendary involved.

Technically no. Yes, their parent company is a Chinese conglomerate named Wanda Group, but they themselves as a solo production company are completely based on the US. Actually, once they were owned by Wanda, it's when they managed to start developing more projects independently, and branching through television as well

I already stop subscribing to John with how he much he keeps missing the context of how Zaslav pissing off it creators in terms of canceling many WB projects or even keep on praising him like he can do no wrong, but when talking about Legendary Pictures upon leaving WB as the deal expires, they’re not coming back to them again. I agree Kilar, the former ceo of Warner Media put a big factor of why Legendary wanting to leave them because of the controversial date to date theatrical HBOMax release even though Godzilla Vs Kong and Dune barely save them of a total disaster, but with Zaslav coming in going on a cancelling spree, it end up making things worst by justifying Legendary’s reasons of wanting to leave with how toxic to work at the moment. We know they are not coming back to Universal again because of so many box office disappointments except a few like the two Jurassic World films or praises like Blackkklansman and Straight Out of Compton so that not gonna happen. Working at either at Sony or Paramount would be good for Legendary, but to both studios as well. Personally I would go with Sony given that they focus more theatrical than streaming services as they are the only studio not to have it own streaming service so I can Legendary would want to work for them the most. For Paramount, considering they have work with them before in the past with international distribution of Watchmen and North American distribution of Interstellar despite Warner Bros involvement, they need them the most as they just lost Skydance and even though Skydance made big hits for Paramount particular with Mission Impossible franchise and a recently billion dollar hit, Top Gun Maverick, Skydance is more interested in focusing on making films for streaming like Netflix for example. Which is why they sign a deal with Apple to make movies for them and it blow to Paramount once a few films Skydance are attached are up. Which is why Paramount will need Legendary Pictures very badly if they were to respect them in giving them an extended theatrical run as they tended to focus more streaming like Paramount+. My safe bet is Sony at the moment so I won’t be surprised if they went ahead already with how bad the relationship between Legendary and Warner Bros are right now. For now I’m blaming Kilar and Zaslav for the fallout right now.

They are journeyman, who can execute something professionally, but not masters. They will be lucky and honored to work with a big studio again (friendly reminder they're new movie, Rebel, just tanked in France). Journeyman come and go, what is crucial is securing the iconic filmmakers of tomorrow and they are doing that. Why do you think House Party (written by Steven Glover) and Evil Dead Rise got saved and upgraded? As for Cartoon Network, that is an underperforming brand, this is WB, like Disney or Paramount, they're a business, you can't expect them to pump money into something that isn't working forever.
