Grandpa Sherm's truck is my favorite vehicle on the channel and I think Sherm will approve of the mods. You can tell by Paul's face when he talks about this truck that it's a special vehicle that really means a lot. This build is going to be awesome and built from the heart. "Whole new level of junk collecting." That's why I can never have a roll back. 😀

This is not just another square body Chevrolet truck it’s a wonderful family’s history. It don’t matter what anyone thinks about the wiring or how Grandpa Sherm put it all together. It works as he designed it to. This truck fits Hank Jr song perfect. A Country Boy Can Survive.

the wood battery isolator/disconnect is perfect. I love how the "truck" is a physical manifest of an idea, not bound to any particular assembly of parts.

Totally agree. My dads old powerwagon has a blinker fuse in line with his charging circuit because it would over charge all the time. It looks funny going down the road with lights on. Everything would get bright then dim over and over. He drove it like that for a year till I got him a new voltage regulator. 🤦‍♂️

You know what I love about Fab Rats. Most people would say, "put it out of it's misery and move on." Not Paul. Besides this truck has huge sentimental value, he sees good in everything, and his "I can rebuild it" attitude shines through. I have absolutely no doubt that this tow truck will be an "animal". Please don't change the body a bit. That body may not be pretty to most, but I think it's freakin' awesome. Fab Rats truly warms my heart and makes me smile ever time I watch. Great job your guys. That truck long ago ceased to be simply the sum of its parts. It is now a storehouse of memories, and will always be a direct link to your Dad. My Dad passed in1983, I was 22. My storehouse of memories is the 40 Ford Sedan street rod he and I built, and it is on the lift in my shop right now, getting a refresh. It is amazing how these "things" can become so special, and invoke so many emotions. Paul, your Dad is smiling down on you. Like my Dad, he will be in the passenger seat every time you fire it up. God Bless you and yours This Easter Sunday.

The International crew cab brings back memories of a single cab my brother came up with. It had a overheated (burned up) 292 in it. My brother found a Chevy 327, that had been sitting in the weeds for who knows how many years. The first one was a long block (had the heads on it) , but it had a spun main bearing, It had a twin short block next to it in the same pile of weeds. The crank was good on the second block, he bought a re-ring kit and I took the best of both worlds and put together an engine. I don’t remember where he found the turbo 350 automatic tranny, but it was free. I built motor mounts and it seems like we used a Ford crossmember and I made it fit together. He went through at least 2 dozen sets of rear tires doing burn outs and spinning cookies in that truck. Then that motor ended up in a 76, 3/4 ton Chevy pickup that lasted for years here in Wyoming, then ended up in Houston, TX. There the motor was swapped into an 85 step side Chevy until he finally sold it 12 years later. Seeing a lot of your projects brings back memories, but seeing the old international, then tearing down grandpa Sherms old wrecker reminded me of some of the vehicles that I put together for my brother. They were always low budget, using whatever parts he could scrape up, sometimes he would go kicking through the weeds to find parts. He was always hard on vehicles, and kept me busy fixing things up for him. In a way I was kinda glad when he moved to Texas it freed up a lot of my spare time, but I sure do miss him. This was a really good episode, it brought back a lot of memories, especially going down memory lane. Keep up the good work and I will be waiting for updates on the wrecker project.

That International Crew is quite a gem !!! Reminds me of trucks I’ve let go that I’ve been kicking myself for letting go. Can only imagine what Merlins gonna do with it? More Graden Cam !!!

I live in Nashville NC. I walked into an O'Rielly's yesterday, and both counter guys say " Nice hat. We watch Paul behind the counter every time it's slow in here." I had my Fab Rats hat on, obviously. Keep it up guys, we love ya'll all the way over here on the East Coast.

Can’t wait to see this build finished!!! Would be cool to find someone to etch the back window with a tribute to your pops.

Paul, I honestly believe that this project is the one that is going to get more comments and likes, and everything else, besides, this is probably the most emotionally attached project that you have ever built... It has your Dad's name written all over it... I can't wait to see the development...

My dad and I never built a truck. We did rebuild many cars. I really miss those days. Dad is in Heaven these days. Your videos take me back to awesome days.

This will be a fun project as you upgrade the tow truck and make it more user friendly and with all the new 'bells and whistles' you are adding to the truck! But please don't forget the Mopar in the background, we are all looking forward to it being completed and up and running! And many kudos to your wife for all the video editing!
