I learned this from the California wild fires. And building something Keep a circumference all around your places by the tallest trees you have surrounding your building That way you will not have a tree crashing down or a lightening bolt startingb a fire. If you have a fure have a pump and hose to water you cabins and water any grass or bushes surrounding you. Sorry this long. But i just love watching your vlogs. As I mentioned in the last episode, it is great when you can watch masters in a craft at work. I also believe that Ryan still has lots of fun left in that old cabin. I was wondering if you had taken an "early morning " before picture and then an after picture of the landscape or shoreline of your island

Yes, weren't those guys amazing! It was remarkable how skilled they were. We have many pictures of the shoreline, I am just wondering what you mean by "early morning" before and after pics. Can you elaborate? My brain doesn't seem to be working at the moment, lol. -Ryan
@GrumpyTV122 ай бұрын
@@mywildholm sorry Ryan that I was not clearer in what I ment. My "early morning" was just in reference to an early "day of" picture before the days work started. Mostly as a reference point of how the day's work transformed the island's image from the lake. I personally enjoy seeing progress in building on sites like yours (especially because you both show respect for the surroundings) and also enjoy like time lapse images of that mm progress
@mywildholm2 ай бұрын
Oh I see... we do have drone footage from different periods that show the progress over time. It might be a good exercise to put some of them together for a little "progress review" video showing the evolution of the island over time. Good suggestion! -Ryan

When you said you were going to knock the cabin down with that tree I said to my wife "watch, its just going bounce off like nothing ever happened". She thought it would flatten it. Those old cabins were built to one code. "Build it strong, it'll last long". 😂 Plus log homes are incredibly strong in structure. Taking the corners out is the best way to take them down. Now you can have some fun demo'ing the rest. Its acgreat project that will teach you just how much that machine can really do. They are amazing work horses.

You could make a jetty with logs on the cabin as they are seasoned
@mywildholm2 ай бұрын
We could, but it would also need a breakwater to protect it from the huge ice floes that 30km of wind-swept lake would pile up onto it. We would also need a pile driver. We don't have rocks on the island, or a pile-driver... so we will have to come up with an alternate solution for docking our barge. We are thinking through a few options and will hopefully have a solution soon. Thanks for the suggestion! -Ryan

plan would be cut all the downed trees you can reach into millable logs stack on a landing and cut the branches into firewood. anything the size of your wrist is what your firewood is split down to the rest you run through your chipper. but dont forget a pile for kindling beside your firewood pile tarping your firewood if you dont have a woodshed is better as the dryer the firewood the better

Perhaps I didn't explain it very well the last time I mentioned cutting trees and leaving the stumps. Now tou have a field of stumps with no real usable space because you have lost the leverage of the tree's weight to bring them out of the ground. The tap roots go so deep that it would take an excavator that would be way too big to haul on the barge. However, I can tell you from years of clearing experience that you can push them down with Pepper if you know how, so I will send you a video to demonstrate. It's easier than you think.
