Thank you for sharing this. I have a good stretch of the Little Dart, and have small wild brownies, and a regular run of Sea Trout around the size of that last fish..........The otter is usually here from May onwards......that tells you when the run starts!! Tight Lines, Rich

Ha ha! No point in fishing on, once you've managed a fish like that! In UK, wild browns like that are a rare beast outside chalk country, great achievement! I bet up to that point you were chuffed with the 12 incher before?? I had one like that last year from the lune, lucky to get it on film, just wouldn't give up. Doubt I'll ever get near again. Magnificent! Well dangled! Dave (soul trader 57)

hi Paul, know how it feels , was nymphing for grayling yest and caught huge brownie 21in long and by durham scale would make it a bit over 3lb , doubt I will ever do that again , hands were shaking but it was nice to see it swim away to get a bit bigger.

do you know about the river exe fishing at bolham? i go in the water there and i found a spinner i would presume was used for pike but i have never heard of pike in the river exe as i have always though it was just a game fish river. but i actually did see a video here of someone catching pike on the river but i don't know where. i am a coarse angler and i i could fish a spinner on the river and catch that'd be amazing, thanks

Hi. The Exe is game only with fly. I believe that stretch is under the Tiverton Fly Fishing Association. Further upstream it’s Dulverton Angling Club. The river runs through the Amory estate and their gamekeepers police the waters for anyone using a spinner due to the salmon in the river which they manage.

Hi Hywel. Unfortunately I can’t. The stocks have been falling on this stretch but it is on the Tiverton Fly Fishing Association membership if that helps.

Hey there, I was thinking of going pike fishing up the exe from st. David’s station upwards, and will continue on foot across the weekend camping. I’m finding online that there’s really a lot of mixed vibes regarding the numbers of fish in the river. As far as pike and Grayling go is it any good? As well as sea trout and trout? Also, have you run into any rainbows? I know of a few productive rivers (Tamar) tip top for me, but would like to explore this beautiful piece of water, but not waste time as it’s rare I get a weekend away to fish 🎣

Hi Josh. I’m only really familiar with the Tiverton stretch of the River Exe for Brown Trout and Grayling. I find the fishing for these really good especially as it’s non stocked wild fish. For Exeter stretches for pike, the Exeter and District Angling Association may be able to offer some advice on stocks. I’ve heard of rainbows being caught but I’ve not found any yet. Thanks for getting in touch 👍

Thanks you for getting back to me! I’ve had a look around and I seem to have found some good info. Is there a reason their beats are only within the town? Those weirs seem to be pretty high and all over the place. I can’t imagine any fish getting back up that once it’s down. I don’t really fancy fishing within the town, although it looks quite tempting. I’ll throw a few lures in and see how it goes. If not I have no problem down streaming some maggots for a nice Grayling 😁
@WestCountryAngler6 жыл бұрын
The Tiverton Fly Fishing waters are upstream and downstream of the town stretch. I know salmon make it past the weir but not sure about what the sea trout run is like. The Tiverton Fly Fishing waters used to require you were a working man to be a member, so giving access to waters that would only normally be fished by the wealthier class. I must admit I like the stretches being so urban as it means they are within minutes of where I live

Does anywhere stock fish upstream as it looked quite plump and short tailed so I wondered if it could be an escapee stockie? Not that it matters one bit as a guest lump like that is a good fish either way. Really thought it was going to flip back out of that net and bust your tippet. Well played. Love the way you just pack up and go home. I did that after a catching a fish within 20 mins after a two hour drive once. Just feels right 👍

Hi. There is Exe Valley Fishery at Dulverton and Wimberball Lake but both are a long way upstream. However I couldn’t say this is a wild fish for definite either so I’m 50/50 on whether it’s wild or a stockie. But it did give me a big surprise 😀
@Fishwish5 жыл бұрын
@@WestCountryAngler So difficult to tell when the native fish don't have many, if any red spots. I wish all stockies were marked as it would determine whether I knock them or not.

Sonny's Survival School the river has been running high and colder for longer than normal so we aren’t getting the hatches we would normally see. It’s well worth using nymphs and hopefully we should see decent hatches soon so we can use the dry fly
