The lava came over the lava barrier again today and here is new drone footage while star cooling was used to help out but this experiment will be scaled up as soon as new and powerful water pumps arrive to the country. The eruption seems however to be over so this battle might be won but first we need better information reg. ground uplift that seems to be slow now than before the last eruptions. My friend Chris saved my day with those new shots from the water cooling operations today and feel free to visit his blog in German.

The efforts to save the power plant and Blue Lagoon are heroic! It's one thing to just hear how high the workers have built the berms, but quite another to see how tiny people and equipment are by comparison!

I have to say, it’s disappointing to see that the Blue Lagoon is still operating like a private industry while the entire public effort to preserve it continues. After this, it really seems to me that there should be some public-private agreement for the Blue Lagoon to return some of this investment more directly to the people of Iceland. While the value of a tourist attraction is obvious, it’s really the country of Iceland that people come to see. The Blue Lagoon can be re-built. The people who depend on the power plant for electricity and water are really the priority. The two are linked, and so, to some extent if you save one, you save both - but it really bothers me to see such public heroics benefitting a private enterprise. I hope when this is over that the people of Iceland have tangible returns on this Herculean investment.

HI gylfi the uplift is not as steep because the lava chamber is getting larger. if there is a larger volume the time goes up by a factor of x^3 of cubic. so it may not be slowing but increasing in size the silver lining is its becoming longer between eruptions do to the deeper chamber having to fill a larger volume. there may be slowing im not saying there is not but we have to consider all variable when predicting the next eruption. by curve projection we may be looking at the next eruption in mid September i think with a larger volume effusing than last following the trend of larger eruptions. keep the drones flying cheers and stay safe dont breath the nasties

The exchange student would visit each school to talk about their country and their experiences. When Asdis stood up to speak. The entire assembly went crazy. Asdis..was beautiful with long blond hair and all the boys hung on every word she said. I had no idea that just a few years later I would marry the girl who shared her bedroom with Asdis. I didn't find out till years later when we were talking about high school memories and I shared that visit from the exchange students and my wife said "my family hosted her for that year" WOW.. what an interesting coincidence. I'm afraid to say that this in the long term, is a losing battle. You may get small victories, but as you are already aware, inflation continues in the area with another eruption inbound shortly. As I've stated before, this cycle is going to continue for many years and eventually, that entire area will probably succumb to the ever growing tide

Sorry to hear about the car issues, I guess considering all the driving you do it lasted fairly well. ❤ Hoping there’s a break in the eruptions so things can get sorted at the town.

First of all, thank you for your continued videos. They are the most informative ones that I have found on KZbin, without trying to dramatise things. Your my type of guy 👍🏻 I know this is going to sound really crazy, but instead of building barriers on low land, could you drop bombs to make a low land away from the power plant? Head the lava in the opposite direction?

The stories of how this eruption was battled by the engineers of Visir deserve to pass into legend and be remembered for the next 800 years. Hats off to you all.

Thanks for the update and I hope you can get your car fixed soon. It seems like the short-term danger from the lava is decreasing, but the higher level of the new lava surface will be a future risk if the next eruption is in a similar location.

Hoping the plant gets saved. While you say they will be “stuck” with this landscape for the next 800 years, that is kind of cool. It’s very unique being in a lava field & having a big fortress-style “wall”, like a castle.
