On March 6, 1918, two British detachments of 176 men with two light guns landed in Murmansk from the cruiser Glory. Thus began the British intervention in Northern Russia. Gradually, the number of interventionists increased - more and more ships and troops arrived. The British played first fiddle here, but Canadians, Australians, Americans, French, Karelians, Finns, Serbs and Poles also served in the allied forces. By the end of the year, their number had already reached 23,516 people.
