For real, if they’re charging up to like $500 they can at least sing the song faster

i think if you customize the playback speed to 1.10 it matches the tempo of Robert Preston's version in the movie

@@Logan.Jackman I ran across your reply today. I am a semi-retired DP living in Provence. Having grown up and worked in LA for most of my life in the industry. Since a youth I have a love of Broadway musicals. People would say I was living on the wrong coast. My claim to fame is the original Blues Brothers, there are 60+ other films. Every so often I get pushed out of my comfort zone to shoot a film. Last fall was shooting for Arte France in Newark NJ. Walked by the theater, unfortunately too early for previews. I would love to see the show. There is a possibility of a return trip for Arte in late Spring. Be great to meet you, even better to work with you. If you are ever in the south of France please stop by and say hello. Stephen

@stephenmkatzasc I went to the show in February, it was awesome. I hope you can go there. I have family in France (en Bretagne). I would be happy to meet you, I would try to come during the July holidays. If you go to NYC, come see me, it will be with pleasure.

I know they want to differentiate the modern performances from the original cast but I think the deviations in the melody and delivery kill a lot of the songs.

If they changed the tempo this drastically for the actor’s benefit.. maybe hire a different actor? This is a long song and it’s being sung at a crawl…

Yup., I saw the original cast production with Robert Preston and Barbara Cook in 1957. This guy is like comparing Michael Buble to Frank Sinatra. But these people who go see this swill don’t know the difference.

I thought Hugh Jackman would soar in this role. He seemed to be the obvious choice for a modern revival, but it simply didn't work. He wasn't able to imbue the part with his usual energy and zest; perhaps he was just too old; Robert Preston was 39 when he first played the role and Craig Bierko was in his mid-30s, but Jackman was in his early 50s - still fit, but it is unavoidably a different energy. Whatever the reason it is my biggest theatrical disappointment of all time.

I mean it isn’t always the actor, it could be how the detectors want it. But yeah I can agree with you on some points.

It's very average. If you were blessed enough to see the original production, or Craig Bierko in the last revival - miss this version. Robert Preston and Barbara Cook were brilliant.

Don’t know if I would agree with you, I enjoyed it, but I would like to know before watching the original movie if you think that is a good representation of the original production at least in terms of quality.
@jochenstossberg54272 жыл бұрын
@@walterwhite4862 It's true to the original show Walter, but extremely stagey. It's like a filmed play. Harold Hill is meant to be sleezy, which makes the show much more fun because we don't want to see her hurt. In this production Marion comes across as a girl who might 'deck' Harold. All wrong. And Harold would never join in the musical numbers - he's looking for the exit from the get go. Glad you enjoyed it!
