If you haven't had this pointed out already, your pixellated apple logo was caused by using a bitmap file type (perhaps a PNG). You'll need a vector graphic format to get those clean lines. An Illustrator, AutoCad or SVG (depending on what the laser machine accepts). Good luck!

From experience the water proof seal that apple uses is much stronger than the one any repair uses. Basically the seal is just dust resistance and splash proof maybe rain resistance and that's about it. If you drop it in a pool of water, toilet etc the phone will likely just now be water damaged. Which is why When I repair a phone for a client I tell them the phone is no longer water resistance like when they purchased it new.
@NeoOwnz

I just tell the customer I am applying dust resistance seal since as I explained above it is no longer water resistant to the level that Apple uses.

@@keepingdistance4404 na, I buy them on ebay. They're used, not brand new. A small price to pay for top tier display quality. Here’s a little something you should definitely look into one day. I bought a 64GB iPhone XS for about AU$300 (listed as a X) 3 months ago. The back glass is cracked, and the charging port doesn’t work, as one of the pins in the port is broken (headphones still work though). After it arrived I looked into replacing the port, and found out that Apple put some thermal sensor on the charging port flex for the iPhone X onwards. Most aftermarket ports don’t have this, so if you put one of them on a phone running iOS 13 or later, it’ll restart every 3 minutes. And on iOS 14, the phone will be very laggy as well. Some people online said “premium OEM” replacements worked for them, so I bought one for roughly AU$20, but it had those exact problems. Apparently one aftermarket port that doesn’t work on one phone may work on another. I’m trying to look for a cheap iCloud locked phone, or maybe even a used housing with an OEM port still in it. For now, I’m stuck with wireless charging as the only way to charge it...

I then upgraded to my now iPhone 12 Pro Max and gave my old one to my uncle who still uses the 6S up until now. Although I consider this to be an exception, the durability is insane (with right maintenance).

Also you dont have to get to the bottom strips of the battery just take the top one out then go in from the top its really easy as the stips dont go over the wireless coil so it gives you a lot of leverage. The print failure looks a lot like what happens when I get sent a bitmap file for my laser engraver, I don’t know what format your file was but if it wasn’t a vector then might be a place to start, if you’ve access to Adobe illustrator or I think Inkscape is an open source alternative then try exporting your design as a .svg file - if that doesn’t work there are other formats, see what the software is compatible with

@@HughJeffreys how strange, it looked a little bit like when indesign can’t find the original file and just have a low resolution preview but I can’t imagine how that would be the case. Do you have to use the supplied software with it or are there drivers so you can use it like a conventional printer, because illustrator has quite good support for using CNC devices like engravers and routers. But that would require setting up new print presets, which is what I do all the time, it’s just a bit of a pain. But I think I’ve just run out of speculation - I’m now very interested to see you get it sussed, keep up the good work you’re an inspiration

Enjoyed the video a lot. Keep it up. I think it’d be nice if you talked more about yourself or your ideas while going through the repair. something like when you made the car restoration with your dad

Hi Hugh. After disconnecting the camera flex cable on my iphone xs, it won't turn on at all now. Any ideas why? Thanks so much for any advice.

What is the device you plug into the charging port and clamp to the display? I've never seen one of those before.

Try to convert your logo to dxf format for custom look with no pixel. Use fill to fill outline if not filled.

That feeling when you can pick up a mint iPhone XS on Swappa for cheaper than a new XR... lol. I would still choose the XS over the 12, because of it's nice design. Not a really big fan of the newer designs, other than the square body on the 12. The camera layout kinda looks a bit weird to me. I also notice there's less speaker and mic grilles on the newer iPhone's (maybe a water resistant thing)? Not sure, but I kinda feel like the XS speakers and mics sound the same, if not, better imo.

There would still be some prying to do, but it is still much easier than any other method.

You are correct with the lcd part Hugh. LCD replacement screens for iPhones with a factory oled are absolutely terrible. Even the highest quality ones. Every single phone that I installed an lcd instead of an oled would give me problems. So I finally gave up buying lcds and am sticking with oled

Very nice video just have one question. Does the True Tone display transfer to an LCD replacement screen?
@krisd1000
@krisd1000 Ай бұрын
If you want True Tone to stay, you will need a programmer to reprogram the screen serial number from the old screen to the new screen. Without this the new screen will work however it will loose the true tone function
