At 3:49 there's no need to remove the flex cables to remove the battery. Simply warm up the screen side on low 80C setting on a heat plate for about 3 minutes, bend the flex cables over to the screen side and apply a bit of tape to hold it, pull or pry the battery, and it comes out nice and easy. And for heaven's sake, please don't inject any rubbing alcohol under the battery, while it evaporates, it can damage the sensitive AMOLED if it seeps under the screen. I do this every day at my repair shop, saves a lot of time and aggravation. ;)

That's pretty much what Sony use to do in their Xperia phones. The Xperia Z2 had a battery in plastic housing, that was held just by two philips screws and two clamps. The phone was still as slim as their newest phones

They could simply use two metal or plastic brackets held down by a couple of screws. Mind blown! ha-ha
@kuchenblechmafiagmbh13818 ай бұрын
@@TheMaychalPl Had that on a Fujitsu Lifebook U904, it's just 19mm thin, so similar to a MacBook Air, but the U904 and also the newer U938 are really modular: they have a soldered CPU (the U series were never made socketed), but RAM slot (some RAM is soldered on but they have a SODIMM slot for expansion), M.2 SSD (7mm 2.5" in the U904) and WiFi and mobile Broadband "WWAN" modules, all these parts are socketed. They also have a very fancy Ethernet port that you pull out and then it unfolds, IMHO it shows that Apple took the easy, lazy way to simply ditch the ethernet port since the Retina MacBook Pros instead of developing such a thing. And the battery isn't glued in with a ton of that but held by a plastic "carrier" with a few screws.

I think the strong adhesive on the battery softens out with the time. You have to remember you are removing a brand new phone, with a brand new battery. With the vapor chamber being attached to the battery too, it will transfer head along the adhesive, so I think it so minimize battery movement on the near future, and also minimize battery incidents (aka note 7) Edit: Well, to everyone, thats why I started with "I think", thanks for the explanations and personal experiences

I don't know about that. I can't say anything about Samsung or Apple, but when I replaced the battery on my over 10 year old Kindle, the adhesive in the device was still extremely strong. I don't believe they are accounting for softening of adhesives over time when they design these things.

For adhesive like that it's important to apply rapid hard forces than an even ramping pulling force. Otherwise you'll end up pulling a lot harder than you need to. Think of it like loosening a rusty nut, a few taps with a reasonably light hammer requires a lot less force to break it than a breaker bar and body weight.

Your comment about people not being able to tell the difference if you take the logos away… I watched a guy and his wife playing with an S24 at BestBuy the other day for a solid 5 minutes and then he exclaims “wait these aren’t the iPhones” and walks away LOL

I used to be rocking a samsung galaxy s2 skyrocket until I dropped it on the floor one too many times. I should get the screen fixed someday.

As your fellow BlackBerry KeyTwo user, I too am still using Android 8

I've recently switched from Android 8.1 (Blackyberry Keyone) to 14 on a Google Pixel 7 Pro. It took some time to get used to it.

That battery removal part really reminded me how strong zack is from jerryrigeverything. Whenever he does it, he doesn't even look like he's struggling that much.

I'm still rocking android 10 on my LG G7 and it's doing the work. Android 14 on my S21U is neat too but core functionality doesn't feel significantly different.

I think Samsung 'soft cementing' their batteries in place with adhesive comes from paranoia from the Note 7 days. Even though it was more of a manufacturing defect combined with giving zero breathing room for the battery. At least a pull tab is better than zero so combined with alcohol and some heat it's safer to pull out than prying it out and risk puncturing.

Are you sure you used the pull tab right? Similar battery securing method was used on most huawei phones - you would have to fold/rip part of the plastic film above and below the battery pull tab, as it is gripping the battery firmly. Afterwards the battery comes out easily. Edit: yeah at 6:30 i can see the tabs i was talking about. You should have folded them off the battery for easy removal. Huawei phones have these marked in orange color, samsung should put arrows thereor also color-coat them

Im amazed at how tiny the motherboard is compared to the iphone, or even other android phones! I just cant wrap my head around how they managed to cram all those components onto a board that small.

Huawei was one of the first companies that used this pull tapes on their batteries.

I'm watching this video on the exact phone shown in the video (even the same colour lol), coming from an S21 FE. Upon receiving it and looking at it for the first time, I was actually a little shocked at how similar this thing really looks to an iPhone 😳😅 But to be fair, Samsung has been going closer to Apple basically every year. At some point, the OS will really be the only difference between the two 😅

1:40 My Oneplus 7T Pro runs on Android 12. And here I thought I was on old tech and somewhat old software [Although not that old) but sounds like yours is much, MUCH older. I mean hey, if it still works then use it till it dies out 👍 Runs great, battery still like new, no bloatware and runs my games just fine. I’ll upgrade until my phone either dies out somehow or slows down.

@shanepatrick641 At least if the batteries are the same size, we can transfer the bms over. It would be a great upgrade from 3700 to 4000 mah

You should take apart the Vision Pro and assess its repairability. It looks pretty painful to take apart
Also, my main phone, Samsung Galaxy S9+, is rocking Android 10, which although reasonably modern, is the last supported OS for many apps nowadays, and the critical apps are now Android 7.0+. So it seems that I might be getting a phone upgrade after all soon. Might also buy that folding Motorola as a secondary device - never had the chance to use a folding phone before ;)

Great teardown thanks Hugh ! Could you tell me anything about the zoom, I have a S21 Ultra, it has 100x but, when you zoom in to the max, its hard to get the picture to stabilise, it keeps moving all over the place even on a tripod, you're constantly trying to chase the picture around. Cheers mate.

I will say. One thing Samsung has that Apple probably never will is repairability.

I have an Android tablet that runs on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean 😅 bought back in 2012. Although its display cable is broken, once fixed it can run smoothly, even its original 3000mAh lipo battery still works flawlessly

The fact that we can regard a phone that still requires heat and prying to access vital components (battery) as "easy to repair" says a lot about how screwed the modern tech landscape has gotten.
