I like Hugo's all out playstyle but I feel like he's giving up ground in rallies very quickly. Like after two loops he's about 3 metres away from table which gives players like Kristian who is good at active blocking a great opportunity to dictate the plays and move Hugo around. But all n' all very good game by Kristian! And it seems that he picked up the "sweaty table servis" from Mathias from the doubles :)

Yes Hugo both leaves the table too soon and gets too far from the table. Also sometimes he tries to hit winners on the wrong ball.

Agreed. Hugo has always had that problem. It's definitely good that he CAN step back and play with a ton of power, but yeah he probably shouldn't give up the table on every topspin rally.

Add the fact that the euro player is left handed and is also a low centre of gravity equates to quick short powerful bursts of table tennis shots as seen in many of his winning shots he can also get into position early. He is also part of the winning mens doubles team @ texas 2021.

Good win for Karlsson! Another needless loss for Calderano. Karlsson played to win while Calderano played to play as he often does.

Karlsson played awesome. Solid game. Stopped Calderano from attacking everything, and when he could he went wide to Calderano’s forehand.

Nowadays there is not a consistent non Chinese player who can be at the semis of all important tournaments. Ma Long and Fan are way far from the rest of the top 20 players

I have said many times, Hugo needs a good Chinese coach. He has all the skills but sometimes he didn't apply a good strategy. Like Dang Qiu, obviously Qiu applied a good Chinese playing style now and Hugo just got used to it in his second encounter.

Aparentemente faltam mais treinamentos específicos, um técnico melhor, mais concentração, determinação, para o Hugo, em vários momentos. Continua a irregularidade, muitos erros não forçados, a cada partida. O que acontece com o Hugo? Torcer, eu torço muito, mas está difícil! Decepcionante, para um top 3, que caíra uma posição mas no atual ranking, atualizado em 28 de março, voltou a ser o número 3, por ter atingido as quartas de final agora, no Star Contender Doha.

​@@napapanda5169 , já fiz muitos comentários construtivos, ao longo dos anos recentes, com muitos elogios. Não sei nada da federação. Ela é culpada pela boa ou má atuação de jogadores específicos? Como torcedor, que sempre que possível acompanha, incentiva e elogia, desde que o nosso ídolo surgiu, continuo torcendo muito pelo Hugo e por todos os nossos atletas de todos os esportes. Seja mais construtivo, você, em vez de fazer ameaças.

Caramba. Que comentário tosco. O Karlson jogou próximo a mesa e minou o jogo do Calderano. Se o comentarista tosco percebesse, veria que Karlson preparou o jogo na defesa para agredir depois. Quem joga só no ataque é brasileiro imaturo. Calderano enfrenta uma federação corrupta e uma torcida medíocre que só sabe gozar com o pau alheio. Calderano continua meu ídolo, e os conterrâneos só me dão vergonha, até nos comentários imaturos.

I really like the way Hugo plays but he's simply not consistent at all. Definitely not a "real" top 5 player in the world.

No offense, Hugo is a great player and one of my favourites. But there's no question that the ranking system is totally rigged. I mean, apart from the doha star contender champion last year, hugo hasn't win anything. He also keep losing in earlier rounds to a lot of lower ranked players and yet he is climbing the ranking like mad. On the other players who has legitimately better performance like Wang Chuqin is still having trouble breaking into the top 10

Na verdade jogo ele até tem mas em torneios desse nivel que não tem os chineses ele no MINIMO tem que chegar nas semis, ele mal se aguenta nas quartas.

Geraldo and now Karlsson. This game again proves Hugo´s weakness against leftis. They tend to return his serve much better and don´t let him dominate the game with his backhand. Therefore Hugo doesn´t get a lot of free points and has to play very consistant to win, especially with his forehand. Obviously he loses these matches to often to call himselve a Top 3 or Top 5 player. He may is world No. 3, but not in skills. He benefits from his big tournament participation quote and the win of every south american championship where not many skillful plyers participate.

Terrível esse início de ano do Hugo, de 3° estará decaindo para o 4° futuramente. Neste jogo o adversário estáva muito melhor, merito dele, já o Hugo, nem se fala... Ou os adversário estão muito superiores ou o Hugo está em decadência.

Feel like calderano lacks focus more than anything else. Maybe personal problems? He gets far away from the table early, understandable against attacking chinese opponents but weird against karlsson...
