When I was 14 I wanted a Wacom Cintiq, they were incredibly expensive back then and completely out of my budget, I got a Tooya Pro, it was well, not great lol. For my 15th Birthday I got a Wacom Intuos 4 (Large or extra large can't remember it's a big boy) it's definitely held up over the years but it's been 13 years since then and although it still technically works, it's incredibly dodgy, throughout the last 14 years (literally half of my life!!!!) I've always looked at Cintiqs and their alternatives, and I'm soooo happy to announce to whoever bothers reading this that I'm finally getting a pen display TT^TT I just bought the Kamvas 13 (in purple) it's cheaper than my Intuos 4 was way back I can't wait to receive it TT^TT

I was infatuated with the idea of a pen display tablet, but a normal drawing tablet works perfectly fine as well, as for my Huion the screen got really hot within minutes and I had to buy a laptop cooling pad (which does help), I've had issues with their pen drivers, wobbly lines, etc, I wish I had just bought a wacom normal one instead

This is one thing no one talks about as of yet with this tablet : Kamvas 13 can be switched easily between two modes, Pen Display and Pen Tablet. Pen Tablet mode will be activated when the screen of Kamvas 13 is off, which not only helps to save power, but also offers another way for users to express their creativity.

I have jumped back and forth between the reviews yet no one has explained in detail the Hdmi use with this tablet over time! It's mentioned in the website you can use it as secondary monitor for even gaming devices such as Nintendo switch. But the question is how good is the longevity of this screen before the color burns and before it gets old and wacky? I'm not experienced with tablets but one thing I've heard is that display tablets usually do not live up for long.

I have had this tablet for a little bit over a week now and it is my favorite huion tablet to date. I've had no issues with it. I will say mine for some reason did not come with a anti glare protection sheet on it but I don't mind since I prefer drawing on a smoother surface. Also the colors seem to be a little on the yellower side but I also don't mind it since I can just look up on my actual monitor and I can work for much longer because it doesn't strain my eyes.

Are you sure you didn't peel it off with the protective film? You can accidentally do that with the unboxing, but as long as you're okay without the anti-glare film, you don't have to worry

@@strambolli2791 ahh sis there are a couple vids about this, it's said that if you peel off the protective film and there's a glossy screen then you've peeled off the screen protector, it should be matte ;-; i'd suggest you purchase another protector because you might end up leaving marks all over the actual screen as you continue to use the tablet

I personally hope huion and other companies continue to take interest in making their products work with tablets and phones, android or otherwise. It just seems like it would make sense from an efficiency and budget standpoint. If you are able to find an app or apps you like to use on a phone or tablet, and you can get the capability to run a drawing tablet/cintiq this size or bigger as a drawing monitor, it would save you from buying a laptop or desktop just to work bigger. With how powerful phones and tablets are getting, you would think this would become more of a standard down the line. Phones or tablets would work almost like Mac mini’s. That being said, I don’t know if it makes sense from specifically Huion’s business standpoint right now, or where tech will go. But a great android phone/tablet or iPad/iPhone paired with a fair priced 16-22 in. + size huion drawing monitor sounds like a good option for a future set up if they think it’s worth the venture.

At 15:00-15:06 when you were tilting the pen to the left, the cursor began to offset a bit from the tip of the pen, and the cursor went to the left side of the tip rather than staying right below the tip, is this problem common in tablets or is this a problem with this tablet's calibration?

Calibration or the fact that I slowed that down like 300% and the camera is off to the side. In practice, I dont notice it. There was an issue when tilt became available where the cursor would practically jump.

Another quality review, unsure 13 is big enough, i work currently on the Ipad Pro with Procreate but it is a hard choice to make, this or 16 pro. I am really into what Huion are doing though especially what you have shown, for us who cannot afford the Wacom pro range just yet (Or ever! ).

H Zhen it’s by no means a bad tablet...but for me as someone already so used to a intuos I felt constricted by the huion. Like I was too aware of my drawing and the 13 inch being so small it really didn’t feel like I was benefiting using it instead of just keeping my intuos. I think had I tried the huion kamvas 22 or 24 I’d feel a lot better about it. Also I don’t like the fact that you have to buy a specific USBC cable as they shaped the case to only allow theirs to fit.

H Zhen it also doesn’t work well with MacOS specifically in Photoshop. I tried it in Clip Studio and it was fine however id find it would bug out with what tool I was using so I’d have to stop drawing and cycle through different tools so from pen to eraser and back to pen for it to work again. Just wasn’t worth the trouble. If you’re okay with a small display, you’ve never used a wacom before and you’re on pc then you’ll like it.

I've just purchased this kamvas myself, and I do think it's brilliant! Much more opportunity for colour accuracy, it draws incredibly well, I've noticed a fair amount of pixilation though, while usable it does mean everything looks far more blurred on the kamvas than on my laptop screen. Is that something you experienced with yours? I couldn't quite tell from the video since it's most apparent when looking closely at the screen from a short distance away. I've adjusted sharpness to not much improvement, however the actual option for display is greyed out on the OSD menu. If you have time to give advice on this I'd very much appreciate it!!

@Nessun Nome I managed to fix mine! I had to go into the display settings on my pc and make sure it was matching the main screen in it's size and resolution, I'd try that if you're having the same problem!

I've just got the new 16" Kamvas, partly because of this review. You mention here the good "pencil like" feel, and I hoped it would be the same with the new 16" model, because they appear to be of the same line. Unfortunately, It's not the case: the 16" is very smooth, and not like this one at all :(

I believe the 16' version I reviewed was the pro version. I haven't used the Kamvas 16 but I don't think it has the same feeling or same pen as this model. You might be able to find a decent screen protector with some tooth though.

@@CreateNowSleepLater Hi. I think I didn't explain myself well enough. The tablet I purchased was the new 2021 16" Kamvas, which you didn't review. It does share, however, many characteristics with this 13" model, including the new 3.0 pen, usb-c, android, color options, and the matte screen protector. From reading the prospects, It's like a larger version of this 13", so I hoped it would have the same texture as well, but apparently I was wrong. Indeed Teoh Yi Chie, review the 16" in his blog (after I bought it but before it arrived), and mentioned that it it had a smoother texture than the the 13" which he had previously reviewed. Huion do sell protective films for my tablet, but I guess they're identical to the one that is already installed on my Kamvas, and not the more textured one that is installed on the 13" model.

Yep, it will be interesting who gives it a shot. There was a company called yiynova that tried it and bosto as well that was not a good experience. Wacom themselves are still criticized for the premium charge of adding touch on an experience that is not as good as iOS. It works for me but that was the point in the skit. Even Wacom charges heavily on some models for it.

Great review, I enjoyed the extra details compared to other reviews. I've been using my Intuos Pro Pen tablet for a while and I've been itching to move to a pen display. I wanted to get one with the new Pen but 13 is a bit too small for my big hands and the 22 was to big. Huion is just releasing their 12 and 16 Kamvas (2021), those look like clones of the Kamvas 13 with exactly the same specs. I'm going to order the 16 seems to be the sweet spot for portability and size. You lose the stand which is now optional but you get the USB-C cable you had to order separately on the 13. Question: I know that non pro versions come with the Anti glare film compared to the Edged glass on Pro models, seems like you like the feel of the film. Has it scratched a lot since you or anyone else have been using it? and what film protector would you recommend buying if you had to look for a 3rd party one to replace the old one.

Has not scratches a lot. Im actually doing the 24 Pro now which has the 3.0 pen this weekend. So excited. I think the 16" will be fine. I'm not sure on a third party one since the texture wouldnt be the same. You might want to ping Huion to see if they sell it.

My thoughts after owning a Kamvas 13 and Cintiq 16: -Kamvas drawing quality is about 80% as good as wacom’s -screen backlight on Kamvas is way brighter around edges of display -Kamvas display gets hotter on the right side of the display Conclusion: feels like a cheaper cintiq because it is. If you’re a professional I wouldn’t go near these but hobbiests will have a good time with it.

Mmmm, I think the Huion has newer pen tech. In all honesty though, I haven’t reviewed the 13” version of the xp-pen. I did the 12” version, you can check that review out for a comparison on this channel.

Create Now Sleep Later yes, exactly what theo said! With the wacom pro pen 2, there’s no springy-ness to the nib. My xp-pen pen, however, is very springy, it needs more weight to activate it even though it has 8k~ pressure levels? the nib touches the surface, but nothing is drawn so I’ll have to press a little more before it starts drawing, and that’s a real deal breaker for me. So for the huion pen 3.0 is the activation weight similar to the wacom pro pen 2, is there more give to it?

I’ve never heard of the gaomon. If you prefer the 16”, you can wait for the Kamvas 16 to go on sale, they run sales a lot. Bosto doesn’t have the footprint. For pen displays, I stil with Wacom/Huion/Xp-pen.

I do cover the drivers in the video @7:11 Huion drivers have been stable at least the last few years. In general, the pen display quality has jumped, especially since they started the Kamvas branding.

Hi! Great review. I just bought a Huion Kamvas pro 16 premium and I'm starting to wonder if I should've waited a few months xD. Would you say that the new pen technology is way better in this tablet compared to the kamvas pro 16? I'm very curious to know, overall I'm quite happy with my tablet but this new pen technology seems interesting. Is it worth the upgrade ? (even though I don't have any money left lol!) The pens are not interchangeable. That said, you would be sacrificing size and the Pro 16 is a great pen display. I would just enjoy your Pro 16, trying to keep ahead of technology is impossible. You are good with the one you have.

I think a Usb-c Male to Usb-c Female adapter can solve the cable problem.

Assuming it fits, yes. The problem is that recessed port. Plus, if you get a Gen 3.1 adapter, then a cable, you might as well just get Huions cable I guess.

Well, apparently the Thiny adapters (not cable adapters) cost around $ 6, these would leave them permanently connected and you would only change the cables in case they break, I see it as an investment thinking about the future. Huion should include them in the box to solve the problem, but we all know why they doesn't do that xD.

Waited for this, thanks! Although upon checking for display tablet, i came across bosto 16" tablet with touch screen and even work as monitor for consoles like switch. I don’t think the Bosto will match the pen quality and the touch will probably be dodgy. I used to work with them a bit and they are reluctant to send review units.

I'm interested in getting my first graphic tablet, this seems like the best value out of all of them, especially considering the pen quality... I was just worried about the size. I am more so into painting, and less into the illustration aspect. Do you think this size would be a hindrance at all if you are into painting side? Or would I be better off with something like the Kamvas 16 pro? How much better is the pen 3.0 with the Kamvas 13 over the 16 pro? Also, the only way I would be interested in using this with my android is if I could get full photoshop working on android, or something that is totally equivalent to procreate. I tried the Huoin sketch already and it was totally meh. Another question... with a new desktop pc where the usb c 3.2 is integrated into the motherboard, would the tablet then be using your motherboards graphics instead of your gpu? Would that have conflict if you are already running multiple monitors from your gpu? have you tested that at all with pc solo usb c connection?

So my usual advice is get the biggest display you can afford. I do think the pen is better but if you are a painter, I'm not sure you will notice is as much unless you are really into the lighter end. Android seems out for you - No Photoshop. On the last question, it depends on the board. So if you have a proper GPU, you might be able to mix them but on some boards, you need to enable the video in the BIOS. It can get confusing on the primary display issue on bootup but it can work. USB-C I think is mostly a good laptop feature, for a desktop, I'm not sure I see the value as its easy to convert HDMI to DP and most modern GPUs have like 4 outputs. Its not better video or anything, just frees up a port.

@@camdcam94 You would basically use the pen on the timeline and the pen buttons for right and left click. If you needed custom options, you could just set up a profile for davinci. It would work for sure but is it more efficient than a mouse I dont know. I guess it depends on your editing style but I've used it in this fashion.

Huion has three different 13 inch models. This one is their newest 2020 model and lists for $239. Then they have their older 12 and 13" pro models from 2019 or even 2018 that are $100-$150+ more but they are a year to a year and a half older models. I can't tell the difference between these three different models except the finger slider but fewer express buttons on the older models (although the slider is basically a 3 in 1 type button). All very confusing.

I bought the Kamvas 13 last August and its been wonderful especially with zbrush but I have this issue when I use mine for extended periods of time. After awhile it starts to disconnect and reconnect. it doesnt actually disconnects because the pen still works but the windows alert sound when a usb device disconnects and reconnects keeps playing. here's a video of what I mean. this video is not mine but I'd like to link it here for reference. kzbin.info/www/bejne/iqPRlIGPnMmaa80 This might be a driver issue or something.

What happened was I did this review as covid hit. I don’t have a samsung device so tested (limited) with a friend outside of my filming area. He was recording it on his phone and when we went to grab it, it was gone. So I had to go on memory but admittedly, I did not go back and work with Huion on what I saw because I no longer had the Samsung device and the world shut down.
