"I figure Hulk fans will find silent introspection just as fun, if not, more." Ok, but as a Hulk fan: this is kind of true. My favorite elements of the Hulk as a character are the internal struggles Bruce, Hulk, Joe, and the Professor (when the writer's include him) face. Scenes like when the Professor is waiting in a swamp and realizes that even though he's *supposed to be* a union of the three former alters, he's really a new alter himself. And SO MANY moments of reflection in Immortal HULK, like the one where the Hulk crew are compared to the Fantastic Four. Even some of the early stuff, like Hulk's first encounter with the Glob, or the issue written by Jim Starlin. There is a real history of soul-searching in the comics. But because of this movie's tonal issues, it fall pretty flat on-screen.
@Julia-lk8jn Жыл бұрын
Good point! Never seen any of the comics, but the tv-show often had these cooling-down moments which had something meditative to them, and it certainly showed some of the problems and fears Bruce had to battle with. I unrepentendly like the Edward Norton version, partly because it focuses on the problems Bruce has thanks to his green alter ego and how he tried to deal with them: waking up half-naked in ... well, somewhere, having to rebuild his life and trying to somehow avoid those outbursts of rage. Those post-hulk out scenes were really refreshing in that they pretty much up-ended the traditional American v. South-Americans dynamic: traditionally the (US) American hero just strolls in and somehow some guy in a straw-sombrero and a Generic South-American Accent is all to happy to help him out. Actually sitting by the street being dependent on alms? Never-ever going to happen to our hero!
@catalinamelo99327 ай бұрын
Flat on-screen? I think it works 90% of the time. If people couldn't take this movie seriously that's their problem. Underrated quotes: - Bruce Banner: I should have killed you. Father: Yeah? I should have killed you. Bruce Banner: I wish you had. I saw her last night. Saw her face. Brown hair, brown eyes. She smiled at me. She reached down and kissed my cheek. I can almost remember her smell. It was like desert flowers. Father: Her favorite perfume. Bruce Banner: It was my mother, and I don't even know her name. Father: It's alright, son. Go ahead and cry. Go ahead and cry. Cry. Crying will do you good. Bruce Banner: Don't touch me! Maybe, once you were my father, but you're not now and you never will be. Father: Oh, is that so? Well, I've got news for you. I didn't come here to see you. I came here to see my son. My real son. The one inside of you. You're nothing but a superficial shell, a husk of flimsy consciousness ready to be torn off at a moments notice. - [after Betty calms the Hulk in San Francisco] Bruce Banner: You found me. Betty Ross: You weren't that hard to find. Bruce Banner: Yes, I was.

Just because the transitions do not work (at least for me) in this particular movie, I don't have to like said movie. In fact, they were very distracting to the movie and added nothing to a very boring movie. Nothing happened in, like the Pitch Meeting says the first 45 minutes (which is a large chunk of the movie), making a Hulk action movie pretty much just have one action scene. Regardless, being that I don't like the movie, I don't have to watch it again and I won't. It doesn't mean that I won't watch another movie with transitions, again, because this one I didn't care for...which is what your argument is implying to me. If you like it, fine. Go crazy. Watch it. Like it. Recommend it to others. I never said because I don't like it therefore you cannot. I am able to express my opinion, as well. In the meantime, enjoy the Hulk movie, it's transitions that you like, eat your anchovies (because somehow you wanted to bring pizza in on this argument with yourself? I never stated that you couldn't like this movie), have fun. I, myself, will be enjoying a different movie because I still like movies (and might order a pizza, too). Peace...

This is my favourite Hulk movie. I thought the comic-book effects was neat, especially during the action bits. Maybe it needed to be less of a slow burn, but it was definitely much better than that forgettable Hulk movie they did later.
@thedestroyasystem4 жыл бұрын
I think the main problem was that it just wasn't for its target audience. When you package a troubled origin story as an action movie, while failing to deliver on the action, people will feel cheated because it wasn't what they were told. The target audience didn't care about hulk's backstory, they're kids who wanted to see "big green guy smash thing". When they're told they're getting that, and instead get something completely different (and in their eyes, worse) you can see why people would hate this movie.
@TupocalypseShakur4 жыл бұрын
@@thedestroyasystem That's what I told my friend. Hulk is "Big angry man" no one wants to see any deep stories about. "Big angry man" should always be big angry man, it's one of those you can't change, just like Spider-man being a parent, no matter how much we want him to change people are more familiar with the young Peter.

@AfroGaz714 жыл бұрын
The closest representation to the characters from the comic books though. I think the two major flaws were 1. With such heavy themes, they should have made it for adults. 2. CGI wasn't advanced enough so they shot the fight scenes quite dark.

That 2004 movie is by far the best Hulk movie to me not because of the action but because it shows much more of gus abilities then mcu version. Outside of strenght and durability, it shows his regeneration, the madder he gets the bigger and stronger he gets, and it shows Hulk with superspeed. People forget that Hulk in comics was very fast for his size and has always been a fast runner if the time called for it. Hes not fast as quicksilver or nun but Hulk is a speedster in a race. Mcu completely did away with his spead and made him more like doomsday movie version and he has been scaled down massivly with mcu. This by far my favorite
