I love how hulk says “hulk feels cold”. My interpretation of this is that he is actually feeling sad but since he is a creature born out of rage he doesn’t know what sadness is and so confuses it with something he has experienced that is similar

Doing the whole "combining banner and the hulk" thing kinda bastardized a lot of the core concepts of the character and philosophical aspects of his stories. I don't really think the writing staff was ever really able to recover the character after that. Not to mention the overall "blah" state of the MCU means character work will be relatively shallow from this point on.

It is a really poignant story, but you have to remember that even in the story the Hulk isn't alone. There is the rest of everything out there. So much so that there are multiple alien species that apparently have a vested interesting in making sure humanity is done for. What is dead is most of life on the planet, though even all life hasn't been destroyed, what with the roaches.

i read this comic some 10 years ago on youtube with some grainy ass images, but damn if it didn't make me buy a physical copy. I always thought that the portion near the end of the book was because he was having a heart attack. But after years and years of being entirely alone, it seems like ego death took hold and wiped out Banner in the literal sense. So I always read it that Banner managed to get his peace at the end, but it's just so bad for Hulk. The trauma and conflict he endured just left him too damn afraid to even try consider resting. This was the first book I read where I started seeing Heroes as people.

I can relate. I'm over 40 and it wasn't too long ago I found my first gray hair. I've been mostly alone for a long time now, and it does change your perspective, that moment when it really hits home that you're still mortal or have become mortal, though still longer-lived than most. It makes me want to create more artistically, to make sure I leave something good behind after I'm gone. Something I'd be glad I'm remembered for.

Actually, the interpretation of the ending is not correct. If you read the actual story, at the beginning when Bruce is sitting alone, he indicates that HE FEELS COLD. When Bruce thinks about why the Hulk will not allow him to die, Bruce indicates that "He (the Hulk) NEVER FEELS COLD ... OR LOVE ... OR ANYTHING BUT ANGER". However, at the end of the story when the Hulk is sitting alone, the last thought that he has is that HE FEELS COLD. Since the Hulk doesn't feel COLD, this indicates 2 things: That Bruce Banner has NOT died and still resides inside the Hulk; And the Hulk is beginning to change back into Bruce Banner again (since he is beginning to "feel" the cold - which is actually Bruce feeing the cold).

I found it kinda stupid in a way, cuz it's known that the Hulk gets stronger and tougher the angrier he gets, and he gets angrier the more hurt he gets, in a never ending cycle of rage and pain until whatever is hurting and enraging him stops. One way or another. I get that this is supposed to be more of a sad story, but it just feels like a cop out when I'm sure he'd be Pissed after a day or two and make it his personal mission to make those bugs extinct. Also, I feel like there'd still be a glimpse of hope for the survival of humanity, as there have been many humans that lived on other planets/solar systems/galaxies/etc, like Star Lord. He might have had a couple kids, and those kids had kids, and so on, which means that, in a way, humanity survived. Small fractions of humanities DNA spread across the universe and among different compatible species, and while they may not be pure blooded humans, they are human none the less.

It was stated earlier in the comic that Bruce was the one who felt temperature change. In a way he was a shield for the hulk. This is how it could have gone down. Bruce gets to the ocean, finds and repairs a ship and sails to Europe. He gets to Latvia, uses Doom's tech and repairs dooms time portal. He goes back and warns everyone. Also super insects would not evolve over 200 years. They would also need a reliable food sorse to get that big.

I don't think this version of Bruce was capable of building an entire spaceship in the first place. He was a physicist not an engineer.
