Hulka was a great character . He was a ball buster but he could walk the walk and was good at what he did. he was written to be an obstacle for Winger but not a villain. Larroquettes character was the real evil- stupidity in leadership

Warren Oates was perfect as Sergeant First Class Hulka. That was Timothy Busfield (THIRTY SOMETHING) as a private firing off a mortar in Sergeant Hulka’s direction, blowing him off that tower. And that was John Larroquette as Captain Stillman who ordered the private to fire off the mortar. Stillman was the kind of officer who gets troops killed in battle. During the Vietnam conflict, he would have been the victim of friendly fire.

jjohnston94, 'Hulka' calling his men "suckholes" just before saying, "Oh Sh**, INCOMING!"....always made me laugh. I saw this movie in the theater too. Funny thing, is in the TV/Cable version of STRIPES the word "suckholes" was cut. The word "ladies" was used instead. That made me shake my head....is "suckhole" too vulgar a word for TV? Still a funny movie on TV, but some of the charm was lost on cable 😂!
@jjohnston94
@jjohnston94 Жыл бұрын
@@jasona9 Take a close look at Hulka when he calls them ladies. There are several scenes where profanity was censored, and they're all perfect (for example, when Hulka announces a punishment and says, "What do you think of that, Winger?" and Winger says either, "I think it sucks", or "I think it stinks") - I'm convinced they shot these scenes both ways originally, so the edits would look good, probably because they knew they had something good.

IDK why I have all these "Stripes" vids in my feed but I'm laughing at every one. What a classic.

Thanks to that stupid Company Commander, that's why the Drill Sergeant was injured. Funny how no one in the movie figured that out.

That's the sad part. It will go into the books as a "training or non-combat accident."🙄😱😡

Could the Major be given a Court Martial for telling the mortar squad to fire at unconfirmed coordinates? I figured that he could get locked up at Leavenworth for pulling that stunt.

For Winger to talk to Sgt. Hulka like that is definitely insubordination! If I'd of been Sgt. Hulka, I'd of had him thrown in the Brig for that!!!

Hulka could have had Winger thrown in the brig, but all that would do is make Winger despise him more. Hulka knew he could climb the rope, and in doing so upstage Winger in front of the platoon. Hard for Winger to challenge Hulka again after that.
