FUN FACT: This movie was first offered to Kareena Kapoor but she didn’t feel ready to debut yet although SLB told her she doesn’t have to worry, he’ll take care of that. She didn’t listen and went off to Harvard but only stayed for a semester. She ended up turning down BLACK and 3 other of his movies, even walking outta one. That’s NOT true!!! She walked out of RL because Ranveer was HARASSING her!!! In the early days Ranveer was very inappropriate, He did not have nor did he respect other people’s boundaries. Kareena was his favorite and he loved her but he behaved very inappropriately with her and treated her like she was single and on the market. What he said on KWK about her ushering him into manhood and stalking her at the club because she was in a swimsuit , etc etc are an indication of what I’m talking about and SLB failed to reign him in because he wanted that kind of sexual rawness from Ranveer and did not want to inhibit him so Kareena was left unprotected. It was creepy for her to work with him especially doing those steamy scenes so she quit....good for her! Self respect is worth more than any movie but some actresses don’t care about those things. Ranveer’s fans are misinforming because they think he’s an outsider and don’t want him to look bad, they prefer to LIE to make the insider look bad instead....typical behavior.

U know Maitreyi Devi on whom this film was being made, my mom actually knew her family.Her stepmother was my great grandmother's neighbor, so everytime my mom used to visit her grandmother ( my great grandmother) in vacations in Madhupur, she used to meet that lady, who she used to called Surama Dida, and yes this movie does have some serious cringeworthy scenes.

Uff, I've never been more frustrated and irritated by a movie in my life. I ADORE every single movie I've seen from Bhansali, but I'm sorry, as a young Spanish guy watching this movie for the first time in 2023, I kind of hate it 😂 Incredible music, dance and cinematography. Some really nice moments, but OH MY GOD WHAT THE HELL WHAT THEY WERE SMOKING TO LET SALMAN ACT LIKE THAT??!! He's ridiculously bad in this 😂😂😂😂😂😂 And the Italian portion of the movie is SO BAD that it ended obliterating whatever kind of enjoyment I was having with some aspects of the movie. It felt like they dropped an atomic cringe bomb. At least I can say that it was an unforgettable experience watching this 😅

Great movie to react to! Salman is always seen talking to his father who is dead, I guess it was just a way to show how much he misses his dad that even though he's no longer alive, and besides that he's supposed to be a fun, quirky guy. I've seen this movie several times and understand the confusion with the whole slapping and apologizing scene. The way I see it is that salman was trying to apologize for messing up the picture and in that he got a little touchy with her to and I feel like she slapped him mostly because she was mad, and because she didn't want anyone to see them because of her family, not because she didn't like him touching her. Which is why she immediately runs after him. There wasn't any ill intent and she didn't mind her touching him but in the heat of the moment she slapped him which is why she felt bad. I get it can look bad but I don't think Sanjay leela bhansali was trying to make it seem like it was a matter of consent. I do think the "i got punished for her hitting you" was weird. Usually most people really like Salman's character in this movie so maybe you just have to see it through.

Honestly guys, Bhansali is brilliant at creating stunning visuals and scaling up the dramatical stakes. And that has built him up in people's minds as some kind of storytelling genius. But the emotional core of all his movies and plots, esp the relationship dynamics, tends to be pretty gaudy and imbecilic. Emo porn. Titilating and arousing in a totally de-humanized, unrealistic way. Korbin's first impression of Devdas is the level/quality Bhansali actually is, IMO.

Don't know if I would describe it as imbecilic emo porn lol but I've noticed that in many cases I just can't emotionally connect with his films. Like Bajirao Mastani and Ram Leela... stunning visuals and songs but I felt 0 emotions. There is just something lacking in how the characters are written but I can't quite put my finger on it. "Dehumanized" characters is an interesting phrasing, it might be the issue. Can't help comparing with Rajamouli who's also all about visuals but who understand emotions and how to draw viewers in.

@@AriaIsara haha. I guess I was too strong with my words, but it really drives me crazy. 😅 It's jist a lot of chep emotional theatrics. Tbh, I'm not a huge fan of Rajamouli either. Bahubali was a lot of fun, but RRR does seem a bit imbecilic to me 🙈. But even that can work, like you said, because at least the characters' interactions seem real for the most part. In HDDCS, or Bajirao, or Devdas, literally EVERYONE is a passive-aggressive douche to one-another. But the story being told is of undying love they all have for each other. I say imbecilic because most of his characters, once they fall in love, act like they're in some kind of trance and never talk or walk or react like normal people ever again. I guess it might be the reason why they're hard to connect with too. That's his idea of love I guess, but it's nothing to do with how most decent adult humans actually behave with each other.

Salman’s character was the weakest element of the film for me. Firstly, it’s clear that he couldn’t separate his real life persona from this on screen character. Secondly, I think SLB wanted a stark contrast to the character of Ajay. But Salman takes it far too OTT. But I love this film, especially for its 2nd half. Aishwarya, Ajay, the music, SLB’s direction 👌

The thing is that beginning of their love story seems dated coz it’s supposed to be innocent young love, like almost teen love, but since they are played by older actors it seems odd. It’s also why salman is acting goofy and aish is doing some over acting. Plus the style and jokes are dated so it does seem a bit strange but this movie would have been huge if social media existed back then.

Maitreyi Devi on whom this film was being made, my mom actually knew her family.Her stepmother was my great grandmother's neighbor, so everytime my mom used to visit her grandmother ( my great grandmother) in vacations in Madhupur, she used to meet that lady, who she used to called Surama Dida.

Salman is basically acting the way he acted in most of his films in the 90s. That's his trademark style which can be termed 'goofy'. We find it endearing and funny but I can understand how it can feel confusing for y'all. The thing about Ash punishing herself for slapping Salman has not aged well. Bhansali is old school romantic.
