The easiest way to get the most out of Philip K Dick’s novels is to fill in the blanks with what you know in the book. For example Flow My Tears, The Police Man Said the plot kind of ends with a minimal resolution unless you put together 1. The woman that died near the end is the lead West Coast’s Federal Police Chief’s incestuous wife. 2. Throughout the book there is a very strained relationship between the Police Chief and his debauched wife. 3. The police chief’s wife tacitly admits that her debauched drug fueled bisexual lifestyle is the result of the police chief’s withdrawl from their relationship and his hawklike focus on his work. 4. The main character becomes a non-person due to the police chief’s wife’s use of an experimental drug which manifest’s the user’s deepest desires 5. The police chief’s wife had met the main character before he was unpersoned and was a big fan of his work in entertainment and music prior to his unpersoning. 6. She dies from an OD while the main character is still an unperson. 7. Because of their incestuous relationship and the police chief’s uneven past with the futuristic totalitarian government the police chief is worried that if his sister-wife ends up dead and their real relationship discovered his political opponents will use her death as an excuse to finally kick him out of the government and put him in a gulag. Once you take all these points together it becomes clear that the Police’s Chief’s sister-wife used the drug to unperson the main character in an attempt to frame the MC for her death because it had been a fantasy she had and because she still loved her brother-husband and didn’t want him to be investigated by the police. Basically she manifested her own assassination on a metaphysical level and the drug caused this to create a reality in which this would happen without her husband-brother being blamed for it. With PKD novels you have to put what you know in the book together. His vague plot style is actually very subtle but once you catch on his books are the biggest mind-fucks. Flow My Tears is domestic politics on a whole other level. It’s a corruption investigation on a grand scale.

Theres a great quote from "thus spake" about that heart-deep feeling when seeing ones inner-most self reflected in a piece of writing. Yeah, the boys have good taste in sci-fi, i couldnt believe my ears the first time i heard sam bring up jack vance and gene wolfe. I think the "new wave of sci-fi" will be remembered as one of the all time great periods of literature, its such a fertile spring of so many powerfully idiosyncratic writers. Ellison, farmer, ballard, moorecock, etc.

Harlan Ellison was one of my first sci-fi loves, found the "alone against tomorrow" collection on my dads bookshelf and spent the next 10 years reading everything of his i could. Im glad people have discovered "i have no mouth" but hes so much, much more than that. Hes definitely dark, often pessimistic, but i disagree that hes merely a purveyor of dystopia pornography. Its a shame how much of his work is out of print, but that goes for alot of guys. Check out half-past human by T.J. Bass, it was a lucky find from a "little free library". Rereading the "jesus incident" by Bill ransom and Frank Herbert, it poses really interesting questions about faith, free will, and what constitutes a human. And its got some interesting parralels with alleged hollywood practices, the rituals that allow one access to the inner circle of rulership.

Only Jesus saves from hell. Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day (1 Corinthians 15:1-4 KJV). We are not saved by water baptism (1 Corinthians 1:17 KJV). Jesus shed His blood for our sins (Ephesians 1:7 KJV). We are saved by grace through faith, not our works (Ephesians 2:8-9 KJV).
