This is definitely one of my favorites among the many that Morgan James and the guys have covered over the years. Morgan, in case you still read these, you are the most talented singer I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to. It’s not just the control you have over your instrument, it’s everything that goes into it as well. From the outfits you wear, the way you carry yourself and perform, and the way you sing with such emotion and from the heart leads one to not have any choice but to believe that you have lived every word of the song, ripped up the t-shirt and came back even stronger. Bravo! THIS, is real music!

I love it. The steel guitar rolled with the accordian + slower pace makes this sound like older blues. Morgan's almost staccato delivery of the lyrics punctuates this giving it a spoken word blue-grass quality. And much respect to Ron, using a stripped down precussion arrangement is ironnically easy to screw up & Ron keeps it on point.

Morgan James is an absolute powerhouse in the world of music, a vocalist whose extraordinary talent and versatile artistry have set her apart as one of the most compelling performers of her generation. From her early days on Broadway to her stunning solo career, Morgan James has consistently captivated audiences with her soulful voice, impeccable technique, and magnetic stage presence. James's journey began in the realm of musical theater, where she quickly made a name for herself with standout performances in productions such as "The Addams Family," "Godspell," and "Motown: The Musical." Her time on Broadway honed her skills and showcased her ability to command the stage, drawing rave reviews for her powerful and emotive singing. However, it was her transition to a solo career that truly allowed her to shine and explore the full breadth of her musical abilities. Her debut solo album, "Hunter," released in 2014, marked the beginning of an exciting new chapter. The album, a blend of soul, R&B, and pop, highlighted James’s remarkable vocal range and her ability to infuse each song with raw emotion and authenticity. Tracks like "Call My Name" and "Say the Words" display her incredible control and the rich, resonant quality of her voice, earning her a loyal following and critical acclaim. One of the most remarkable aspects of Morgan James’s career is her dedication to creating and performing music that speaks to her artistic vision. She has a unique talent for reinterpreting classics, as demonstrated in her soulful renditions of songs by legends like Nina Simone, Joni Mitchell, and Prince. Her covers are not mere imitations but rather fresh, inspired takes that breathe new life into beloved tracks, showcasing her deep respect for the originals while highlighting her own distinct style. In addition to her studio albums, Morgan James has gained widespread recognition for her dynamic live performances. Whether on stage with her band or in intimate acoustic settings, she brings a palpable energy and passion to every show. Her ability to connect with audiences, combined with her stunning vocal prowess, makes each performance a memorable experience. Moreover, James’s collaborations with other artists and her work with the popular music collective Postmodern Jukebox have further expanded her reach and demonstrated her versatility. Her renditions of contemporary hits in a vintage style, as featured with Postmodern Jukebox, are a testament to her creativity and ability to cross genres seamlessly. Her subsequent albums, such as "Reckless Abandon" and "Memphis Magnetic," have continued to build on her impressive body of work, each project reflecting her growth as an artist and her unwavering commitment to authenticity in her music. "Reckless Abandon" showcases her songwriting prowess and deep emotional resonance, while "Memphis Magnetic" pays homage to the classic soul and blues that have influenced her throughout her career. Morgan James is a rare talent in today's music landscape. Her career, marked by both critical and commercial success, is a testament to her exceptional abilities as a vocalist, performer, and artist. With each new project, she continues to push boundaries and captivate audiences around the world, solidifying her place as one of the most exciting and dynamic voices in music today. www.candiano.com/

This one has more soul and a stronger blues tinge to it. There's a real sense of tragedy in this one. The original was a bit less tragic and a bit more defiant. Original also had a great bass line. I like them both a lot. Oh, and it's harder to sing along with this one. Morgan James really shows off her range, emotion, and tonal quality and when I try to sing along I feel like I'm ruining it. Original I could sing along just fine.
