This is definitely one of my favorites among the many that Morgan James and the guys have covered over the years. Morgan, in case you still read these, you are the most talented singer I’ve ever had the pleasure of listening to. It’s not just the control you have over your instrument, it’s everything that goes into it as well. I love it. The steel guitar rolled with the accordian + slower pace makes this sound like older blues. Morgan's almost staccato delivery of the lyrics punctuates this giving it a spoken word blue-grass quality. And much respect to Ron, using a stripped down precussion arrangement is ironnically easy to screw up & Ron keeps it on point.

This one has more soul and a stronger blues tinge to it. There's a real sense of tragedy in this one. The original was a bit less tragic and a bit more defiant. Original also had a great bass line. I like them both a lot. Oh, and it's harder to sing along with this one. Morgan James really shows off her range, emotion, and tonal quality and when I try to sing along I feel like I'm ruining it. Original I could sing along just fine.
