Kelan, a young Floraxian from the plant-based species Floraxia, dreams of possessing the positive traits of humans, such as strength, creativity, and courage. Living on the ancient and diverse planet Zythoria, Kelan attends an elite interspecies school where a human boy named Aris becomes his new classmate and buddy.
Aris' arrival causes a stir among the school's students and staff due to the perceived danger humans pose to prey species. Despite initial fears and cultural misunderstandings, Kelan and Aris strike up a close friendship. They navigate the challenges of fitting in, from Aris' overwhelming physical strength in gym class to the shock of his meat-based lunch in a cafeteria filled with herbivorous species.
With patience and humor, Kelan helps Aris adjust to his new surroundings, and together they bridge the gap between their very different worlds.

This was far too short. It is such a good premise for a story. If only it were longer & fleshed out more, it could be amazing!

This is a nice little story that should be continued. Being in a situation where you are the only human takes time to adjust. Especially when the classmates think they will be his next meal. But if what humans can eat can't be eaten at that school, what will he end up eating? If he can't eat animal or plant products, that only leaves dairy, something he couldn't survive on for long.

Longer than you might imagine. I have celiac that wasn't diagnosed until adulthood along with a host of other oddball issues. There was about a 2 ~year~ period where I lived on milk because nothing else stuck around. I was a skinny kid, but between milk (that has become a habit, I still drink about 1-2 gallons a week), yogurt, butter and cheese I consumed a ton of water and nothing else. While I did take vitamins in the 2nd year, nothing else. Not something I would recommend (if for no reason other than it is dead boring and the first glass of chocolate milk I drank tasted like ambrosia) but you would be surprised at how much the human body can adjust to if choices are limited. I was still running around, climbing trees and generally getting into normal kid nonsense at high rates of speed as my more normal eating friends. Just a walking concern to any Bessie who might be mooing around me. But it could be a real issue of human/alien meals, I think walking up to a creature and handling it's undercarriage bits would cause at least some confusion and concern to aliens around me! lol

Nice story but the biggest problem I have with it is the steak sandwich. Did his parents hate him? I assume they are ambassadors as it's a school for ambassadors' children. As ambassadors they should understand the cultures of the species they deal with and I would say that the No 1 taboo for a mainly prey school was to eat meat around them. They would know that or plan his food carefully in case that was they case. Big mistake in the story.

Kinda weird how the aliens from another galaxy measure distances in the USA-specific imperial system. "He jumped six feet..." Other earthly realia like "standard years" being just Earth years and time of the day being measured in the same amount of same hours.

It's a good story ... good start to a series of stories. But construction is ... construction. Can't really build a door with hinges that can be broken off by a simple push from a 16 year old kid. The building has to support it's own weight, and doors are made to keep things in or out. Although I do like reading/hearing these stories ... too many think we live on a high gravity planet, and that will make us superior to other species. Most of the exo-planets found, to date, are actually more massive than ours, which suggest we'll be the weaker ones when contact finally happens. (if it ever happens)

One little nitpick: The author is confusing the words sentient and sapient. Sentient means you have consciousness. Sapient means you have people-level intelligence.

So aliens dont have muscles and humans bones that are unbreakable. Like that kinda breaks the immersion for me. Humans bones are not that durable like a good hit from a metal object will break them. Especially in an intergalactic age where aliens species regularly interreact would they think human bones are that durable when their science is so advanced. Like humans can't tank a car going full speed or missile. Yeah, they might be durable in comparison to a plant based species, but that feels like moot point

Sentient vs sapient, a dog is sentient not sapient, humans and probably aliens are sentient and sapient. So is the sentient-assembly something similar to a dog hotel? But I like the story.

Humans don't normally eat 🦍🐕🐩🦝🐈🐈‍⬛🐅🐆🐴🫏🐎🦓🦒🐘🦏🦛🐁🐀🐹🦫🦔🦇🐻🐨🐻‍❄️🐼🦥🦦🦨🦘🦡🐦‍⬛🐍🐋🐧🕊🦅🦢🦉🦜🪿🐬🦭🦈🐝🌲🌳🌴,and grass like bamboo . Key word is normally. If humans got hungry we might think about eating 🦝🐹🐰🐇🐿🦚🐸🐊🐢🦎🐡🦈🐙🐌🐜🦂🌵 still bamboo is not yet considered food. If we humans get very hungry we might think about eating even 🐩🦊🐈🐈‍⬛🐴🫏🦓🐀🦇🦜🦭🪱,and maybe even bamboo.

I come from a North American middle class family. I was taught that you eat everything on you 🍽 . If my class mates are Plants, and Animals . All so if I lived at the School like Harry Potter did . I will eat in my Bedroom . If that did not work than I will give the 🐊 🥓 ,and the 🐴 🍇... that way they learn about human food. If that didn't work I will eat nothing for 11 days ,or utill I end up in the 🚑🏥. If that didn't work than I may try to get moved to a School with a higher Omnivore population instead. If that didn't work than I may just start to change my behavior from more like Obi-Wan to more like that of Darth Vader. They want to keep me from eating? Plan 5 if see my Dark side.

The main issue in this story for me is how they portray humans as biological super beings and how shocking scary they are with their unusual physiology. The problem stemming from the fact that it was that the planet and school was a melting pot for numerous species across the universe. The part of the story saying they are plants and humans could eat them contradicts the part of where it was stated numerous species lived on the planet. You mean to tell me that they are plant based? The culture /species shock would be warranted and more understandable if it was about just one species being introduced to humans. They should not be as shocked as they are.
