my big mower has a 40hp motor, it'd chew you up and spit you out without noticing you were there in the first place, but that 40hp is also moving all 500 lbs of mower as well so it's splitting the power by some amount and I'm not sure what % is going to what, old full sized tractors would do their job with a 90 hp motor so 40 hp is more than enough

The weed-eater would probably hurt like hell, but wouldn't cause any serious injury. The whole point of them using string is so that during operation the "strings" will conform to any hard surfaces like curbs, walls, tree stumps, tree roots, etc.

The guards that drag the ground on the back of the mower are actually important. It's very easy to slip and have a foot go under the deck when pulling a mower backwards. I'll never forget the close call I had a long time ago before the guards were common. I wasn't hurt but learned a lesson.

Many years ago, I knew a kid in high school who got his foot caught in a lawnmower as a kid. Showed a few of us the scar in class one day. His foot was pretty mangled up, but he was still able to get around pretty good. Always be extra careful when doing yardwork. The blades don't care how attached to your limbs you are, they'll still try to rip them off regardless.
@joerauhut9169 Жыл бұрын
On the lawnmower test, the irony of the situation you presented would be you could have fell while trying to throw a fake foot into the mower while on the ladder =you losing your balance and falling and dragging the mower on top of you thus removing whatever appendages were available at the moment.Please get an assistant next time .There was a guy in California whose hedge trimmer broke .He used his lawnmower by picking it up and holding it against the hedges .Well he either slipped or couldn't hold it any longer and the lawnmower fell onto his crotch. True story ,the doctor whose job was to sew Willy Wonka back on his chocolate factory was my dad's Dr. .....moral of the story kids is please be safe ! Loved the vid 👍

When I owned my own lawn care service, I had a dumb employee walk around revving the weed whacker. Well I was mulching a bed and he was trimming behind me. Not sure if he hit something and made the head hit my leg or if he was just that dumb. Still have my "cat claw marks" from it tearing the skin. Years later I worked for a million dollar company. The guy did well hiding his hangover and drinking on the job. A 10 foot retaining wall, and steep inclined leading to the wall with a drop off... He ran over the wall and fell off the wall. Mower was upsidedown still running on top of him. He reaches out and loses his hand. The speed of blade tips are insane. Even weed wackers have an impressive tip speed. This is a problem no one talks about. Everyone thinks because the blades are grass level, nothing will happen. Watch a video of some commercial mower accidents. A small stick could cause a cheap blade to bend, messing with the alignment, eventually slinging the blade out from under the mower. Anything and everything is fair game. Be safe cutting grass. Always make sure your attachment points are tight (nuts, bolts). Do not operate if you feel wobbling from the mower. Grease everything and wear PPE!!! People say "accidents like this happen quicker than an eye blink" and yes that's true. You'll get about 3 blinks in before something hits you. It's that fast. And never EVER think you know your equipment. When you get confident is when accidents happen. Be safe everyone

A guy I know was mowing the lawn slightly drunk as usual with his small electric lawn mower. Suddenly a stone got stuck and the engine stopped. He turned the lawn mower to the side and pulled out the stone..... bad idea! The blade started turning again instantly and chopped the top part of his fingers off (right through the bones).
@bass-tones Жыл бұрын
Damn. You’d think by now mowers would have safeguards that would prevent them from running if the mower’s turned up in its side. That sounds like a point of danger unique to electric mowers as well. It’s hard to forget a gas one is “running,” but hell, I could easily imagine forgetting an electric is still on if the blade is stopped.

I knew a guy who lost 2 toes to a mower, when I asked him how, he told me he was walking backwards and tripped, pulling the mower onto his foot. Yes, he had shoes on. You might ask "Why didn't he let go of the handle?" The simple answer is that he couldn't. If you fall backwards while holding something, your instincts are to tighten your grip. You can't let go no matter how you try. I've always remembered this, and given this advice many, many times: *_NEVER walk backwards pulling your mower. ALWAYS release one hand and turn around to walk forward._* I hope I have saved some toes.

I recently retired from being a Paramedic for 16 years, my first year in EMS I ran a call where an older gentleman decided it would be a good idea to wire down all the safeties on his old riding snapper lawn mower, then mow his grass and when he would mow the ditch near the road in front of his house, he would get off the mower and push it up the hill, while the blades were still going. Well, his embankment going down to the ditch was about 10 feet tall and he is going along pushing the mower up it when he slips on some wet grass, the mower then proceeds to roll back down the embankment straight over top of him. The mower didn't shut itself off until the gas ran out and there was a rather gnarly spry of blood, bone hair and chunks of skin extending about 20 feet out from the discharge of the mower. He was found about an hour later by one of his few neighbors when then drove past his house and saw him under the mower. Remember folks, those safeties are there for a reason so don't bypass them and end up on the Darwin awards website.
