I am overwhelmed by the brilliance of Fr James and his humble manner of speaking. Offer it Up is one talk I read and reread as well as the talks on the Holy Spirit. I can’t get enough and need the repetition si can absorb it and make it a part of my life and being! Thanks, Fr Brent

hmmm.. Objective truth to happiness as a basis for common ground including form and finality as a whole has to be considered to really achieve true flourishing and true happiness. Positive psychology is limited to the human approach and true happiness might not be truly achieved. 👍Father James.

Why isn't beauty one of the natural inclinations of man?
@ThomisticInstitute
@ThomisticInstitute 5 жыл бұрын
That's an excellent question. Many within the Thomistic tradition associate beauty with truth and goodness both. Beauty describes a preponderance of intelligible goodness, so our inclination to truth and goodness captures our inclination to beauty. This, of course, is a controverted point, and I don't know exactly what Fr. James Brent would argue, but that's a stab at it! ... beauty is the harmony in the form; ... beauty is splendor of form-al order in truth ordered to the good. When we perceive beauty of a thing, we perceive the pattern (intelligible structure) of the thing as being in harmony, preponderantly fitting together, in unity ...

I've never understood why Americans are so enamored of these utterly vacuous words "sophisticated" and "nuanced". They're pompous and empty and focused on prestige rather than substance.

Eudaimonia is not happiness. Wrong translation. I like your channel, but I suggest researching more and also being sceptical in your readings.

Is it possible as a lay person in secular society to lead a contemplative life( reading scripture, reading the hours, prayer and theological study) without Holy Orders?Does that count as a contemplative life?
