NGL, Pelinal sounds much more like a biblical angel. Lotta weird BS, whole lotta power, doesn't seem to have perfect control over its own Will, powerfully magical, and doesn't really die proper, while also having an extremely weird set of armor they are known for, impervious and with the ability to strike fear into all who see it (though that's mostly Pelinal's own myth rather than being a radiant being who could blind you to look upon). And given that the stories of Angels emerged from earlier myths of Daevas and the funerals of nobility and so on, it makes sense that these flares would make it into Elder Scrolls since its lore takes a lot of ques and concepts from various world religions and myths That said, if you really wanted to dig into obscura and esoterica you can also compare the various proto-angels and even the early accounts of YWHV's host to Cyborgs. They are beings of shining brass with armor harder than stone made of the flesh of a fallen warrior of import or nobleman. They fought bloody and mercilessly and barely had the will to oppose their creator. They were augmented by gifts placed upon their forms and wielded weaponry that seemed to break the mind of those who witnessed it. And quite frankly they were fucking inhuman as hell even when they were the ones designed to work with humans.
@ShadaOfAllThings
@ShadaOfAllThings 4 жыл бұрын
Oh also gonna add: A potential way that Pelinal might have seen the future is through his slaughter. Haruspicy and Entropopmancy are both forms of Divination that require a ritual slaughter of an animal or human to perform. You cut open the stomach and let the guts and blood and other viscera fall to the ground to be interpreted. Usually this is done via birds, which would be on point for the elves he was killing, but it can be done with other animals, usually livestock (or humans, mer I'd assume would be allowable too in Elder Scrolls)

Maybe the "futuristic" aspect armor was just the fact that it was full plate mail. I imagine that plate armor wouldn't have been common in the First Era. According to the book Rislav the Righteous, which was also set in the First Era during the First Empire, the only armor at the time was made of leather.

Regarding the armor, if we look at the real world take late medieval armor and drop it in antiquity the armor would leave you near invincible and would be armor of the future.
@edim108
@edim108 2 жыл бұрын
Basically. Late Medieval Knights were practically walking tanks. Nothing short of a siege crossbow bolt or a gun shot could get through a properly made plate armor. Gaps were few and underneath most of them was chain mail, so even if you got a knife in there, you still have the riveted mail to contend with.
@TheSaival
@TheSaival Жыл бұрын
@@edim108 while medieval full plate armour was a work of art in itself it could be easily defeated in two ways A ) very slim blades (misericordia, a dagger that was actually used to mercy-kill knights) or pointy hammers (lucerne) B) any blunt weapon (a wooden mace will cause enough shock trauma to shatter bones and crack skulls) A big part of medieval knights tankiness was the fact that they were on horse or that they often were fighting against much less trained troops (for example peasants) Its kind of funny that a peasant with a pickaxe could kill a knight if he landed a few hits. As I see it the big P was actually using some sort of modern composite armour that was very resilient despite appearing kind of medieval, for example a combination of plate and bulletproof materials.
@edim108
@edim108 Жыл бұрын
@@TheSaival "Easily"? Not really. Unless by easily you mean managing to best a knight in combat and getting the blade through a gap only couple millimeters wide during a battle. As for blunt weapons, those are much easier, which is why things like war hammers and poleaxes were much more prevalent on actual battlefields than swords, but even then they weren't foolproof. Armor evolved alongside the weapons and just bc the metal plate caved in didn't mean the cloth padding underneath didn't do its job- a solid strike to the head with a mace would certainly knock you out cold, it could maim you, but relatively rarely did it actually kill. An important thing to remember about medieval battles too is that taking captives was much preferred to outright killing the knights, because a captive knight is one that can pay you a hefty ransom.
@TheSaival
@TheSaival Жыл бұрын
@@edim108 I fully agree. However I dont see how an antique versus medieval soldier battle would play much different. In both cases its actually the hoplite/knight dying to a peasant. Hoplites would die to slingers, knights would die to peasants with blunt weapons. However, I stand with my point about blunt trauma. A bash with an executioner sword (this big chunk of metal) is much more effective than a bash with european longsword against plate armour. Cuts against full plate armour are very stupid, but so did the chinese had paper armours that were very resilient against cuts. And so they did fall before heavy infrantry equiped with piercing and blunt weapons. What I am trying to say, while european full plate is VERY GOOD it still would fall aginst any ancient weapon you can think off (maybe not those copper swords, because they are so soft). What I am trying to say is that most of the power european knights had is because of tactics, which means heavy cavalry charges. If Pelinal was using ceramic underside with modern steel overside he would be pretty much invisible to most blows, other than the most of heavy blunt trauma.

Pelinal being a possibly magical cyborg works if you look at the Dragonborn DLC. Specifically General Falx Carius and Ildari Sarothril who both had stones in place of their hearts, Heart Stones that made them notably tougher/harder to kill and effectively immortal. Falx Carius should be a skeleton by this point, but instead he's flesh and blood, seemingly through the power of the stone? Pelinal's own magical gem heart could be a further advancement of this technique. He may have had an enhanced magical regenerative ability, which is why the Elves had to literally dismember Pelinal to finally kill him. It also fits with the bouts of madness Pelinal reportedly suffered, as those with Heart stones have also seemingly gone mad, Flax Carius is seemingly unaware of the passage of time and believes he is still defending the ruined fort. And Ildari Sarothril is obsessed with getting revenge on Neloth, though she descends into madness due to the Heart Stone in her chest, she still fixates on that goal and was progressing towards it. Essentially they could be considered the magical equivalent of a cyborg in the Elder Scrolls world. It's not like advanced magical technology hasn't been seen before, such as Dwemer constructs like the Numidian and the various Dwemer spheres, spiders and other mechanical constructs. Maybe Pelinal had something similar to Dwemer construct soul gems powering him, and he could release this energy in a lethal manner. Helping to explains his name whitestrake, literally shooting white magical energy from his body?
@lazzarini28
@lazzarini28 3 жыл бұрын
What are these heart stones made of? Thaat's a good point, that might be it, considering some written lore about him are probably full of exaggerations and misunderstandings of events and stories as they are so old. i'm sure if you look into it enough you can also link this to his supposed time travelling? Maybe he was from the future, reman empire, and since there is divine intervention and time is not exclusively linear, the gods could have gifted the empire secret knowledge and technological/magical advance to send pelinal to save the humans as the gods wished, as it is possible in the ES universe to send living things back or forward in time. With him possibly being the avatar of lorkhan before being sent back in time, and with this stone heart to make him stronger (and madder). Pelinal ruled many places but never ruled them as he usually would "abandon" them kill elves. Maybe these kingdoms or whatever of his were in the unaltered future he came from, and he left them behind to help the humans from the past and etc. Kind of a loop, idk.
@lazzarini28
@lazzarini28 3 жыл бұрын
That would also certify that the empiree was founded strong and the ayleids were not a future threat, since in this "unaltered" future reman empire the ayleids could have been a threat or something else so doing that would make them stronger and/or even undo some stuff. So they made sure pelinal killed as many elves as possible.

It's always made sense to me that ESO takes place in the timeline that diverged from Pelinal's mission failing, and it paves the way for a world plunged into chaos. I've come to the conclusion that Oblivion, Morrowind and Daggerfall took place in the same timeline, while Arena, Battlespire and Redguard are prerequisites to Skyrim, where the world is infinitely doomed to chaos due to Alduin and The Dragoborn's interventions. They do not, however, ever mention Molag Bal's invasion, while it would make sense that Bal wants to invade during the Oblivionfall timeline, because they speak heavily about daedra invading Mundus. They speak of The Oblivion Crisis in Skyrim as well, but the solution to any divergence is as simple as "Skyrim is divergent mostly after Oblivion happened." The dragonbreaks can be accounted for by the varying actions of the protagonists, with the Nerevar never once having anything to do with Akavir in the actual game. And the Battle of Red Mountain mentioning Nord heroes working alongside him, which, to my broken knowledge, wasn't actually a thing in the titular game.

Saying he was a "cyborg" is a little misleading and overly simplified. It gets the general idea across, but I think there is more to it. It's more likely that he was a CONSTRUCT. Like Numidium, or Akulakahn. Inhabited with the soul of a being, powered by the Amulet of Kings similar to how Lorkhan's Heart powered Akhulakan and the Mantella powered Numidium. Something with an intrinsic link to Akatosh, thus giving it some ability to manipulate or travel through time, likely to any period in which the Amulet of Kings (its heart) also existed. After all, why would time be a barrier to a thing so closely tied to Akatosh? This is why the armor is simple an unremarkable in Oblivion. It's not part of the construct anymore. It lacks the soul and the Amulet of Kings. It's just metal now.

He was stated to be at Alessia's side when she died many years after his death but this could be in spirit as he has been shown to do some force ghost type stuff in Oblivion. Having armor of the future could mean he has badass new armor style that by the time the tales were written of him was copied , so would be futuristic or advanced for its time... I believe that he was blessed/cursed with divine knowledge of future events and blessed with amazing abilities to help form the foundations of the first empire. Not from the future or a cyborg, just a fucking Alpha Male badass with the gods on his side and knowledge of his destiny like Hercules.

Pelinal could be the HoonDing. The Hoonding was believed by the Redgaurds to be sent by the Gods in time of need. The Redgaurds hate elves and battled with them constantly throughout their history. His left arm was made of a killing light. Maybe because he was a sword singer and they mistook his soul sword as a killing light. Pelinal's duel with Haromir of Copper and Tea he his neck-veins while screaming praise to Reman. Perhaps he was referring to Reymon Ebonarm instead who was a HoonDing himself. As we know Yokuda was destroyed. It's a long shot but it could of been Pelinal going on of his madness but it was left unchecked and he his path of destruction cause Yokuda to be destroyed somehow. All the races have differing stories but essentially the same Gods. "During the Tiber Wars, HoonDing was said to have been a sword or a crown, or both" perhaps an amulet even? Tiber Septem maybif gotten the crown from him. Pelinal may of been the numidian for all we know. The history and myth often mix and get obscured a lot so perhaps so it doesn't necessarily line up with dates and descriptions but it kind of fits. The Hoonding was known as "The Make Way God, is the Yokudan spirit of 'perseverance over infidels'. The HoonDing has historically materialized whenever the Redguards need to 'make way' for their people." Which Pelinal definitely made way for mankind from oppression. "The HoonDing has had many other manifestations over the course of time; for example, Reymon Ebonarm may be another aspect of the HoonDing that has manifested on Tamriel as an adversary of the Daedric powers." The Ayleids worshipped Daedra and could summon armies from Oblivion. Since the Hoonding had had many manifestations throughout history. Pelinal was callee the 3rd, perhaps a third manifestation. It's a theory I'm working on and I admit it's a bit out there but it fits somewhat as well

I disagree with the time traveler theory, the reason why is beacuse it sounds like ancient alien theory wackiness. I believe it's more likely he was more likely a traditional fantasy reason.

Morhais?! Oh goodness, Morihaus! Okay I’m sorry, not a bad video but it makes me cringe that you made a video about these characters and you’re not even saying their names right.

I don't believe he was a cyborg, he was more like the punisher but instead of criminals he attacks elves(most likely for a divine purpose or due to trauma)... but due to him knowing of future emperors he was possibly blessed with divine knowledge.
