I had absolutely no near-death-experiences - no tunnels of light, no gawds, nothing. What I did have was a series of vivid dreams - hiding out in Montana with Mulder and Scully, climbing an Italian mountain with James Bond, et cetera. The one constant in these dreams was my mother's voice saying "Don't pull on that!" When I woke up, my mother was there and confirmed that she'd been telling me not to pull my feeding tube out. Nothing supernatural, she was sitting two metres from me. I feel left out!

John Nash. I grew up Mormon. I was a child prodigy. Everyone expected me to be the next Joseph Smith. Smith once claimed his first vision happened at age 14. I was under tremendous pressure to have visions. When I was 14, just about to turn 15, my youngest brother became gravely ill. We all fasted and prayed for his recovery. I stuck to the fast religiously, taking upon myself the burden of saving my brother. I fainted in PE at school several times due to starvation and dehydration and was hospitalized getting forced IVs. One night, I got a vision of a heavenly visitor. It appeared to me in exactly the manner that Joseph Smith described one of his visions. I asked the heavenly messenger if he would heal my brother. He told me my brother would live, my petitions had been heard, and I could end my fasts. I told the entire family the next day. We all stopped fasting. My brother died a week later. I got blamed for his death. Of course my vision was a brain-starved desperation to force me to stop killing myself.

Our conscious minds are too overinfatuated with our conscious minds. Consciousness is simply one of many things our brains do. And amazingly, very little of what our conscious does has any effect on our bodies. Indeed, other parts of our brain have to use chemicals just to motivate our conscious to do simple things like eat, have sex, or be afraid so as to run away from something dangerous. Our conscious doesn't even operate at all for 1/3 of every single day. But all of that doesn't stop our conscious selves from thinking it knows everything. We are nearly blind to space and time, yet we are naively confident of our individual perception of the world around us. This caller doesn't understand how limited his perceptions are when he is healthy and aware, and yet he wholly trusts the accuracy of his perceptions while his brain was experiencing extreme trauma. @philpaine30682 жыл бұрын
@@hjvjccc Oh my, what a silly comment. My comment was clearly meant to be satirical, but your pomposity clearly doesn't permit you to understand this. In fact, I've had numerous psychedelic experiences over a long lifetime, though I've not been keen on it recently. The most recent one was a couple of years ago when a friend brought over some rather nice mushrooms from Vancouver. Since I'm Canadian, I don't give a frick what the DEA says about anything. Also, since I'm Canadian, I am free too walk over to a corner shop and buy all the cannabis products I want, and, since I'm undergoing treatment for cancer, I use it primarily for pain management.... but I was always an occasional social/recreational user. There is a supply of Broken Coast's Quadra brand in the drawer next to me as I write, as well as two packets of Edison Jolts, and I shared a 20mg gummy with my neighbour last night. When it comes to psychedelics, I have usually preferred shrooms, which are easily available. My last shroom event was a couple of years ago. My last serious LSD trip was in 2010 (a very strong dose), and I used it several times in 2001. The year before that, I lived in Vancouver, where shrooms were omnipresent and the most potent home-grown marijuana was socially accepted and cops always turned a blind eye. Not much interest in it in the 1990s... that was era of "party drugs" and reading Alexander Shulgin's PiHKAL and TiHKAL was de rigeur (I still have a well-thumbed copy of PiHKAL on the shelf)... though few of us had sufficient knowledge of organic chemistry to understand much of them. MDMA was particularly popular then. However, few of the party drugs appealed to me, other than as a mood amplifier at raves. I lived then just on the edge of the gay village of Toronto (as I do again now). The party scene there at that time was at its apex, and virtually any concoction was readily available. I tried coke a few times, but never liked the sensations, so I usually passed on it when it was offered. The main occasions when I took acid was when I lived in San Francisco in the mid 1980s, though I had tried it earlier in the mid 1970s. I also tried peyote once, in Mexico, which was a pretty intense experience that I have no need to repeat. If your LSD experiences have not been interesting, I suspect you have been fobbed off with an inferior product. As a historian, I have studied and written about the social use of psychoactive drugs (one of many interests), and keep numerous books and scientific papers on the subject dating back decades. One of my special studies is the role of psychoactive substances in religions, and the resemblances between religious doctrines, images, and experiences, alleged miracles, and drug experiences. To answer your question, people who have had numerous psychedelic drug experiences over a long time, such as myself, have no difficulty distinguishing between hallucinations and reality, because we have been in control of them. People who have hallucinations in the context of a religious experience, where they have been primed and convinced by their co-religionists, or by cult leaders, usually cannot. When I took acid, I knew and expected distortions of reality to happen. I understood the chemical processes involved, and had a rational view of identity and mentation. People in the Middle Ages who accidentally ingested LSD through ergot-infected bread could not know this, so they interpreted what happened to them as visitations from angels and devils. That was my point. One thing I have considerable experience of is dismissing the arrogant opinions of ignorant, pompous twits who comment on my comments.

People who have strong bias due to their beliefs miss the simplest details. When we have dreams they can feel like they are extremely long but we might only be asleep for minutes, or alternatively dreams can feel very short but actually last hours. Time is never an issue with dreams because in your head time can be perceived however you want. So when you "die" those few moments before your brain actually ceases function can feel like a really long time. Hell for all we know someone who is actually dying and doesnt come back might not ever feel as tho they lost consciousness, because that last moment of brain activity could last an eternity to them. So when people use arguments of how real something feels or how long it was, it's no different than a dream. The only reason we know a dream isnt real is because we woke up.

Forrest using Phineas Gage as an example isn't entirely correct. The thing is: Gage himself wasn't well studied during his lifetime and a lot of claims about the changes in his personality are either false or exaggerated. Not to mention, changes were temporary. I suspect that there are plenty more cases of brain damage causing personality changes but people keep using Gage because he is most famous one.

let's see if you follow Jesus's teachings shall we? Do you save money, have a pension, own a house, or have insurance? Jesus said you should not do that. Did you forsake your family, give away all your wealth to the poor, and join a Christian commune? Jesus said you should do that. Do you amputate body parts that cause you to sin? Jesus said you should. Do you pray and fast in secret? Jesus said you should. Honestly, do you follow all of these teachings?

Here are some facts Jesus was wrong about! John 3 NIV 11 Truly, truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, and yet you people do not accept our testimony. 12 If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? 13No one has ascended into heaven except the One who descended from heaven-the Son of Man.… 2 Kings 2 Berean Study Bible Elijah Taken Up to Heaven 1Shortly before the LORD took Elijah up to heaven in a whirlwind, Elijah and Elisha were on their way from Gilgal, 2and Elijah said to Elisha, “Please stay here, for the LORD has sent me on to Bethel.” Hebrews 11:5 By faith Enoch was taken up so that he did not see death: "He could not be found, because God had taken him away." For before he was taken, he was commended as one who pleased God. Genesis 5:24 Enoch walked with God, and then he was no more, because God had taken him away. Jesus is wrong about the importance of washing your hands before eating and the mustard seed is not the smallest seed on Earth! Mark 4:31 NIV New International Version It is like a mustard seed, which is the smallest of all seeds on earth Matthew 15 NIV 1 Then some Pharisees and scribes came to Jesus from Jerusalem and asked, 2 “Why do Your disciples break the tradition of the elders? They do not wash their hands before they eat.” 10 Jesus called the crowd to Him and said, “Listen and understand. 11 A man is not defiled by what enters his mouth, but by what comes out of it.”

Dear Christians, Please answer those questions, thank you 🙋🏼♀️ When did Jesus cleanse the Temple, at the start of his ministry or near the end of his ministry? When did Jesus celebrate the Last Supper, on the Passover or the night before? Who carried the Cross, Jesus or Simon? What were Jesus's last words on the Cross? When was the tombstone rolled away, before the women arrived or after they arrived? Five simple questions that require five simple answers. Can you answer them or just spout nonsense?

Dear Christian... If God is the source of objective morality then: A) Why doesn't the Bible present a consistent moral framework? For example: Is it moral to own slaves? Is it moral to murder babies? Is forced abortion moral by her husband if he thinks he wife had an affair? B) Why doesn't Yahweh live up to his own moral standards? He murders and tortures people. He lies. He has fits of rage. He only forgives conditionally. He causes women to be r'd. He murders innocent babies. Why didn't Yahweh just create the humans and angels he knew would love him and obey him? He knew who would love him before he created them. Therefore, he must have deliberately created beings he knew would not love him or obey him and thus deliberately caused beings to exist just to cause them to suffer forever and ever. You can not hand wave this away with free will or human sin. If you think that's an answer then you need to read the question and points again! Also, how is your god different from a man who puts a gun to my head then says go to bed with him and give him money or he'll shot me? Actually, from my perspective it's a man saying give me money and go to bed with me or a being will torture me forever after I die. So to summarize my questions as they are interlinked. A. Why didn't God just create the humans and angels he knew would love him and obey him? B. How is your God different from an extortionist? C. What evidence can you present that Christianity isn't a scam made up by some men in order to extort money and gain power over others?

Dear Young Earth Creationists you love to disparage Charles Darwin's character in an attempt to discredit the scientific theory of evolution. Martin Luther, the Protestant reformer was: 1) A drunkard who encouraged others to become drunk. 2) A fornicator who encouraged women to commit adultery. 3) A seducer who caused a nun to break her vows. 4) A heretic who caused division within the Body of Christ. 5) Caused open rebellion against Rome. 6) Caused a genocide against poor peasants. John Calvin, the Protestant reformer: 1) Had depraved lusted and enjoyed torturing women for his own sexual gratification. 2) Ordered nuns to be r%%%%%! 3) Had no theological training. 4) Instituted a theocratic dictatorship. 5) A heretic who caused division within the Body of Christ. 6) Murdered his critics. Therefore, all Protestant denominations are wrong! Checkmate Young Earth Creationist Christians! 🙋🏼♀️💁🏼♀️🙆🏼♀️ NB. This isn't a rebuttal of Christianity but of Young Earth Creationism.

Futile as the explanation might be, another way to make the point to Jay might be to ask where do all the sand castles go? And his response might have been but the sand is still there... missing the point entirely.
