George, you must really trust those connectors! I count about 40 right there around the pump and another 20 or so for the hot water. My thought is that every connection becomes a failure point, though I guess this system most likely not be pressurized all the time or ever at at very high pressure. If this were to ever freeze though.... As an engineer (retired now) I suppose you could add a freeze sensor to start the pump and open a few purge valves to automatically purge most of that water automatically. Good thing for you I don't live nearby or I would probably be sitting around there on a stool complicating things. As an EE student in college, I "was" the service dept of high-end stereo shop when not in class. A retired EE professor spent most afternoons there in the shop with me working on one project or another. Great job and it's nice to watch you and Alex exhibit fine craftsmanship.
@HumbleRoad5 жыл бұрын
I do trust these fittings. Check out Uponor North America for specs and success rates. I used to photograph brochures for a high end stereo retailer. Tube amps! Speakers that would make you swear the orchestra was in your head, centered between your ears!
@baronistheone5 жыл бұрын
@@HumbleRoad That was the 70s when I worked at that shop and yep we had tube gear as well, back when Saul Marantz, Henry Kloss and others were in their heyday. I went to the CES show for many years (mainly for fun) and always spent plenty of time at the esoteric audio demos - they used to be concentrated at an off-strip hotel and each would have a suite. The manufacturers would replace the bed, etc. with a couch on one side of the room and an incredible system on the opposite wall with very specific speaker placement regardless of what they were showing from a turntable at one suite to speakers at another, etc. I grew to love Patricia Barber on vinyl and other near-perfect recordings they used for demo since the "source" was key to it all.

You are correct that plumbing setup is sexy as hell! You have great attention to detail and I can tell you take enormous pride in what you build. I am wondering as to the size of the glycol tank, is seems so large, once the closed loop line is filled/purged of air between the water heater and the engine heat exchanger it seems like a tiny 16 oz tank would keep the system tubing full of fluid and any air bubbles could exit the tubing into the upper part of the tank. The total volume of liquid in the heater loop is quite small, 3/4" ID heater hose has a liquid volume of 2.93759 oz per foot so a loop of 10' up an back(20' total) from the engine is only 58.7518 oz not including the coil in the water heater and the aluminum tank. I know you mentioned that tank was quite hot in the summer time and people on the be bed had hot feet what about making that tank a smaller vertical cylinder with a fill cap on top? One question from another video about 80/20, you said you use a mix of series 10 and series 15, watching your build very closely it seems like the bulk of the framing is series10, where specifically do you use the heavier 15 series? In my build planning I want to keep the structure as light as possible but also very rugged. Initially I was leaning toward foam core fiberglass composite sandwich panels(strong and light) for all the cabinet bases, drawers, etc then the visible surfaces would receive with a thick 1/16" Maple veneer. However I do like the modularity and diversity of design options framing with 80/20.

Absolutely beautiful.... I think you may need a backflow or some other type of valve between the pump and the manifold/hot water heater to prevent water from draining when you clean the filter on the pump
@HumbleRoad5 жыл бұрын
wouldn't the pump itself act as the back flow preventer?
@vandalorian87774 жыл бұрын
Now that I think about it you’re probably correct otherwise how would it hold pressure. but if not and I understand how you routed everything I believe you can just turn off each of the valves on the outflow side of the manifold

@HumbleRoad2 жыл бұрын
If you run your chassis coolant lines all the way to the heater and back, they are exposed, at risk of a cut or puncture under the van. That would render your vehicle inoperable. With my design, a cut hose will only prevent you from making hot water, the vehicle travels on!
