I'm 29, I live in a group home, and so I'm not absolutely reliant on my mother, but she does help me a lot. I've never practiced but today I made a deal with God to save her in exchange for me entering the church. My father has another family now and so does my brother, so no one can really take care of me. I've had schizoaffective disorder for about six years (biploar and paranoid schizophrenia), but with medication I'm high functioning and I'm already in school again, but majoring in accounting. I hear that mental illnesses disqualify you but what about when you're perfectly normal? I'd be happy as a monk or anything else. I also just heard that NONE of them are malignant, praise Jesus! I owe Him this now. Is this a good idea?

Well done to you getting on top of your life and doing the best you can. Very proud of you :) Go to church and develop a good relationship with God because you want to grow in your faith and love God. Not because you want a specific result that may or may not happen with your mum. People's faith journey is dependant of them alone (cannot force them or bombard them as they won't listen), with our catholic lived experience practiced daily to be a good and inspiring virtuous influence. Please be supporting of your mother and keep going to church for you, one day your mum may see the good benefits and come back. My brother is away from the church but i pray for his return and try to live a good life, it is hard though. God bless x

I've always understood inordinate preoccupation with what people think of you as pride. I heard it defined as vanity recently on Fr Mike's Bible in a Year - and now here. I need to understand more. The Litany of Humility seemed to me to suggest it's part of pride. I need to go investigate to understand better.

I'm a Heathen (Germanic pagan), but nonetheless I really like Father Schmitz. His material is really good and informative, and he brings a welcoming warmth to studying the teachings of the Church. That being said I'm not converting, lol. The Church massacred my ancestors and nearly destroyed our traditions. Nevermind destroying our physical holy sites, then desecrating them with churches. Matt, in one of your podcasts could you address the difference between manifesting and praying. There does not seem to be much of a difference besides manifesting possibly being to gain things for the self and prayer being to gain things for God, but even saying that does not seem like a good enough destination. Do we not pray for things we ourselves want and if we are "one with God" or close to God then is praying not to please God and thus to please one's true self?

Is not just about 'what for' but also 'to whom'. Prayer is directed at God. When you're praying for things for yourself, you're still praying to God. And with manifesting, _whom_ do you manifest to? Who's the addressee? To whom it's directed? Second thing. Being 'one with God' doesn't mean being the same as God. God =/= your true self. You're not God. You're you. God is God. Your true self = _with_ God.

Personally I found this a very ‘vain’ way of addressing this topic. Basically, stop thinking about yourself, your preferences, your desires, your emotions, etc. How to do that? Put others ‘self image’ before your own. Dedicate more time to praying for others, helping others, and then you might find God’s will living within you.
