i am really looking at purchasing the 859ci HD DI. I was comparing it to the new Elite-7 from Lowrance. What are your thoughts on the two models? I am using this primarily as a freshwater fisherman for bass, pike in rivers and ponds. However, i do venture into some saltwater harbors/bays for flounder and Stripers!

Well, I wish I could give you my thoughts on the Lowrance but I haven't used the new Elite 7-HDI so I will remain neutral and say both have good reviews. Some people swear by them while others swear by Humminbirds. I can tell you that I love my Humminbirds. I would highly suggest you run down to your sporting goods store and try each unit in the simulator mode, side by side, so you can see which one appeals to you more. Ease of use, features, load time and mapping coverage (which unit covers your normal waters in the best detail), are all important areas to look at. Hope this helps, a little!
