Best tutorial I’ve seen yet! I am confused about the fact that early on you explained that in order to have new settings saved you have to switch to real mode. Then very shortly without explanation it appears you switched to simulator mode and then proceeded to make all the setting changes.
@hookedntravel Жыл бұрын
You're supposed to have it in non-simulator mode when setting up your unit along with the video. All we did is have the unit in simulator mode for demonstration purposes only for the video. (simulator mode is just retail mode). Just so it looks as if you're using in your boat in real time.

@hookedntravel11 ай бұрын
The biggest factor will be your budget. Your biggest factor between the two are going to be your pixel dimensions per each screen and how that factors into your budget. More pixels per screen and you're going to fit more details onto it what your sonar is seeing. Your second biggest factor will be which transducer type and what you're using it for. You have to take into an account that you can zoom in on your side scan, down and 2d. As well as your Megalive. Here at the shop we'll see sidescan on our 9" units, then zoom in right side only to zoom in to fish and structure. It's going to allow more pixels per image when you zoom. That details will be limited on your transducers capabilities. With all these points, keep in mind the solix are harder to program. Honestly we can't tell you which one to go with, with money as no object 15" is going to have more pixels and a higher model will have more features. But it's also dependent on the time you have to dedicate to learning that unit. Most units can do way more than what 90% of users will ever learn. Without knowing how you fish and your boat setup, and how often you fish. We can just lay out it for you

I didn’t quite understand what you were saying about transducers. It sounded like you said not to use the expensive one but then you said to use a “y” cable and use 2 transducers. I understand what the cable does but what transducers would I use? I just bought a used Helix12 gen 1 and when the snow melts I’ll install it.
@hookedntravel Жыл бұрын
The Y Cable - is used to be able to have side Imaging and Dual Beam traditional sonar on your unit. it allows you to use two transducers on one unit without the use of a transducer switch

Question for you.. I fought with auto chart live for 2 weeks after getting my helix 10 g4n. I could never see the colored path on the base map with contour lines as I mapped. Nobody, including Humminbird tech, could figure it out. Then by accident I found out that you have to zoom in to be able to see the depths and colored path as I map. Why doesn't anyone say you have to zoom on all these videos?
@hookedntravel2 жыл бұрын
we unfortunately haven't gotten that far into depth on a tutorials for birds. This video goes over the outline of setup and initial programming thats to be done out of the box to get the user 95% of the way there from the start. As far as the mapping goes, its most likely due to the processing power it takes to draw map contours on the zoomed out range and tying it together. Zooming in helps takes the processing power load off unit.

Hi. Thanks for the video, very informative. I just ordered my Helix 7 Mega MSI G4. I do not believe it comes with two transducers. Is that right? The single transducer is supposed to be side imaging and all of the above, although not very large for sure.

not sure which package you ordered for your setup. The smaller puck is usually just the skimmer high speed sonar and the long big puck is the combination one

Should I be able to see fish on side scan with a 9" screen, 800 transducer? When I'm 40' from the bank I want to see the fish stacked up and I can't currently do that. I'm considering making the move to all new Garmin electronics. Any suggestions? My 360 sucks as well. I knew there was a bottom in the lake before I got in the boat. I'm not going boating, I'm going fishing so I want to see the fish.

How far are the fish up the bank and how shallow of water? You can zoom in to the sidescan on a 9” screen for more resolution
@turdferguson53008 ай бұрын
@@hookedntravel The boat is on the river bank drop off so 18ish feet but that varies, set on 40 foot off which ever side I'm scanning. When I enlarge the area nothing shows up fish wise, no shadows or fish their selves so I'm guessing they would be 6' to 12'. We scanned 4 miles of river yesterday and didn't see anything except structure. I've never liked the Helix 9s or the 360, I would honestly rather have a flasher. I'm going to check on the Garmin echomap ultra 2 12" tomorrow. If I can't see that it's time to quit. I've fished Chickamauga Lake for all of my 60 years and it's never been as bad as it is now. Without these graphs fishing is a waste of time.

Thanks excellent .How do you use humminbird to return to a " marked fish " It seems that since I'm a new user I have a difficult time finding the " mark " on my sidescan . Also when I " mark " a fish ,it first marks where my boat is and then I can move the cursor to go to mark the fish on side scan ..
@hookedntravel2 жыл бұрын
You’ll place the cursor over the fish on the sidescan or the sonar screen. Make sure it’s marking it on waypoint at cursor and not the boat position. You’ll go back over to find the waypoint on the mapping screen. Some units will display a waypoint on sidescan and some don’t. Generally your using the chart to track back to the waypoint. A separate GPS puck hooked via nmea 2000 network makes the track back to that waypoint a lot easier because it has the direction the boat is facing. It’s not necessary though.
