Really glad to see the fish are still there and the water clarity now seems quite decent... When they first built the pulp mill above Mattawa about 1960, the river became almost too murky with the fine pulp floating in it to fish, so we would go elsewhere. I remember getting upset (pissed) at motoring through 6 inches of floating pulp waste at the turn at Highview above Gibralter Island. I was in Petawawa from 1951 to 1962 then my father was posted to Wolseley Barracks in London Ontario and I only managed to get back to Petawawa twice in the years since.Still think often of the adventures I had growing up there. I was there when the engineers wired up a bunch of expired Second World War aerial bombs and set them off on Gust Plains and broke windows in Deep River and Chalk River.. Exciting that was. I think they were trying to simulate a tactical nuke....They never did it again...Darn. lol The bangs you heard fishing brought that to mind. Cancel

Such a great story. I had no idea that the water was so murky back then.

LOL...Naughty GoPro has a mind of its own! LOL Hard to let a great day go by without getting out and doing something. Does look like it is getting cooler out there. Still getting some pretty good catching though! One great way to spend the day! Hope you are having yourself a great Thanksgiving weekend!

Thanks! Yeah, so far fall seems to be coming to us gently for a change. Give Otis a hug from Maggie and I!

Used to anchor and jig that spot with live minnows in the late 50s about 6 inches above bottom with a slip sinker to a swivel and about 2 ft light 6lb. leader and #4 long shank hook... The fish always seemed lazy, you had to wait after you felt a tap to set the hook. Never caught much on June Bugs and worm harness or trolling with lures at that spot. Hard to get stuff to the bottom due to combination of depth and current.
