Cagney simply rules. Been my fave actor since I was a kid, no one lights up a screen like him. Of course, I love Bogie too. This is such a great flick.

Bogart always played the RAT with Cagney at this stage in his career because he wasn't yet the A lister that Cagney was. I always thought there was some personal animosity between these 2 but there wasn't. Cagney always admired Bogart's work ethic, and there was mutual respect. It shows how convincing they were as actors.

The three movies that Bogart did with Cagney were really important for him, helped him to become a great star during the 40s

I was raised in a neighborhood that was swarming with gangsters, they owned it, and I can assure you NOBODY ever played a gangster more realistic than James Cagney. Not Di Nero, not Pesci, not Pacino, not even the most underrated, Armand Asante. Just one example: when Cagney leans right into Bogart's face and tells him he's gonna study the books closely, cause one partner oughta know what the other partner is doing, I LOL because that's the exact mannerism a real gangster would use under exactly the same circumstances. In fact he plays the whole scene the way a real gangster would do it.

Bogart doing his fantastic ‘sniveller’ character, and Cagney in control with all those little moves and shrugs. Priceless.

Only Cagney could make Bogey crawl!

- Yes, once it comes to James Cagney as a gangster along with the humorous statements, in my opinion he tops them all. Like here where he said over the phone, "Say Mac, did I get you outta bed?...... Gee, I'm sorry!!". Plus in "White Heat ", during a prison break when an inmate hostage said " You wouldn't kill me in cold blood!! ..Would ya?", Cagney replied " No, I'll let you warm up a little!"

Amazing each actor played against type. Cagney was really a quiet introvert and Bogie..well he was Bogie! Love my "tough guy" Cagney though. Watched every movie he made. A talent!

Cagney was more a force to be reckoned with then bogey.😝
