This was my second Humphrey's summit and first since my surgery. Training for this run actually caused me to develop a hernia and postponed this trip about 10 weeks. I put a lot of blood and sweat into this one by the time I initially trained, recovered and started training all over again. It all turned out great in the end and I'm very thankful to God for allowing me the health and freedom to accomplish these kinds of activities!

Awesome my friend! Great job on the training and prep work it takes to do this kind of hike. Such beautiful country. Thanks for bringing us along. Looking forward to your EDC video.

+DC Rickerson Hey again DC. I was telling campfiretalk on the phone today that a huge piece was mental. There were times that I never wanted to get up in the morning and face 110F heat training hikes, all while building my body back up from surgery. As you know, it's for personal achievement and never meant for bragging rights, but it's nice when my friends and regulars, like yourself recognize everything that it takes. Cheers brother! :D

Good stuff brother. I'm glad to hear your back in action. Your neck of the woods looks a little bit like SoCal at elevation. Good stuff.

Great views, light and fast, solid trip! It has been great to follow along behind the scenes and through both videos. You GOT your payback : ) At the end of the day God is good and it's a blessing for sure.

+CampfireTalk Payback baby!!!! God is good for sure! Looking back, I still don't know how I was able to do this 9 weeks after having a 3.5" cut through my stomach muscles. The first morning after surgery, my initial thought to myself was, "oh no... I'm not going to be hiking again this summer." More than half of the prep effort was psychological.

This is awesome man. Really motivated me to want to start hiking. I found your channel from looking up flashlight reviews, and now just browsing your nature vids. That's some beautiful scenery over there in AZ. We have a hiking trail here in town about 10mins down the road that I've been wanting to do, and this video is getting me pretty hyped to do it. I want to do it at night, so I can put these flashlights to use. I bought all this powerful flashlights, but have absolutely no practical use for them haha they're just toys at this point. Either way it's way too cold here in KS, to even think about hiking, let alone night hiking. Anyways, I seen on CPF that you're a fan of WLC and RF. Keep the faith brother. Our Savior is on His way.

+Aspire7 Thanks a bunch Aspire! Thanks kinda neat and I'm glad it made you want to hit the trail. Thanks for checking out some of those nature vids too! Although I've hiked with some really high powered lighting, the sweet spot for me is a single 18650 headlamp and occasionally a 18650 handheld like a PD35 or UC35. It all depends on the trail but generally speaking, the more difficult the trail, the easier I can do with less light (weight). I hope you get out when the weather breaks! I honestly can't remember who RF is but yeah, Bill Craig, Ravi Z, Greg K, Hank H, and so many other teachers have been a blessing over the years. Thanks again Aspire!

Very nice, wish I could have been there to enjoy a RedBull with you after the hike - that looked quite refreshing. Glad to see you are recovering, a hike of this magnitude is quite the accomplishment especially in the thin air and after a hernia, hehe. Dumb question, but what did you do after the hike?
@Patriot36
@Patriot36 8 жыл бұрын
+GrognardOfXCOM Thanks buddy! Yeah, sometimes a redbull just really hits the spot doesn't it! Dude, thank you!! Yes, it was a big goal for me that kinda began two days after the first time up. I made my mind up to do it in 5 hours or less and it turned out to be achievable, not knowing at that time what was going to result medically. Not dumb at all bro, I dove about 2.5 hours back home and ate McDonald's in the car... large fry, QP with cheese and a large coke. When I got home I showered and took out Mexican food and ate a full pint of Guacamole... haha. How's that for detail. :)

11:05 is it the Thin Air up there, that is getting your breathing difficult plus the exertion of climbing ?
@Patriot36
@Patriot36 8 жыл бұрын
+Kanzee You got it Kanzee and I'll add one more part to that. Lower air pressure and lower percentage of O2, and the pace of the climb. Imagine a 3500ft stair case that requires you to sometimes step up 2 or 3 steps at a time. I was on track for a 4hr 30min round trip, which is really quite quick. I'm doing two trips next year and 4:15 is my goal for the first, the 2nd trip will be on a different trail so I'll use the first trip as a training hike.

+shramj Thank you!!! and go for it shramj! You'll love it! I think the key to the first time is to take your time, enjoy it even though it's a good effort at any speed, and to know when to turn around if the summit seems out of reach.

Are you ever concerned about lions on your hikes ? Being in Arizona and all.
@Patriot36
@Patriot36 8 жыл бұрын
+Cody Clemmons It's a consideration that I plan for ahead of time but honestly gave it zero thought during the actual hikes. I consider it a treat to see one and although I'd hate to have to kill one, they're not anything I'm afraid of. I've been right on the ground with them less than 20 feet away before, once in the desert and once in the forest.
