People get surprised when they see the green forest in my vids. They think Utah is pure desert. Have to admit I was a bit surprised by all the green in your state as well. Such a beautiful area. Love seeing the deer on trips like that. I understand that feeling of exhaustion put pushing on through the hike. thanks for the vid. I wanted to get out this weekend and couldn't. Watching vids like this helps.

***** I know what you mean and we really do have some majestic forest out west. Like you, I really enjoy the variety of low and high desert and forest. When I see deer like that on a fairly well traveled trail, I always wonder how many people walked by them before I came along. Glad the vid kinda substitutes for the weekend and I hope that you get out for the next one, my friend!

Wow! And as the elevation climbs, the trees get smaller and the steps get shorter - that's the way it is up there. So fun to see the same physics apply in your beautiful mountains too. Great you've brought us along on this one - again, Wow!

***** Yep, you know exactly how it is and yeah, I'd be really worried if the physics were different...lol. Thanks for tagging along Waw Hiker!

That is some rugged beautiful country! My health limits my outdoor activity these days, so your hiking videos are greatly enjoyed as well as your gear reviews and bag examples. Looking forward to part 2. Glad your back!

I truly look forward to your hiking vids. Actually been watching your stuff every night before bed for the past couple weeks. Gives me a sense of being there in Arizona. Truly beautiful landscape and so foreign compared to mine. (Upstate NY) thanks for uploading this!

Orchardridge I sincerely appreciate that Orchard!! Neat to know that you're really enjoying these and that these images sort of transport you to the places. I'll be doing more soon and I'm training six days a week right now to hike this peak again. In fact, it's 10:30pm and I'm about to do a 7-8 mile skate. You caught me right before I left. Thanks for watching man!

Yeah man, truly makes a difference when you have your cardio up. The hike is so much easier. Funny you bring that up because I just got back from Bear Lake in the Adirondack Mountains...I've been working so much haven't had much time for the gym...and I was feeling it...really struggling. Looking forward to your next vids, bro!

Awesome, this definitely reminded me of some of my hikes in Colorado. I really enjoyed this man, and I totally agree with you about groups on the trail being 'chatty'...glad you could get out there and really glad you took us along! Looking forward to part 2

RedEyeSurvival Cool! They actually refer to the Kachina Peaks Wilderness as the little Colorado in AZ. Only about 30-40 people on the trail the whole time I was there, which was pretty nice considering how well known it is. Hope you enjoyed part 2!

Just found your video and am really enjoying it! Just like you I have hiked to the saddle once ..... 1997 and am hoping to try it again soon. I love your enthusiasm for the beauty of your surroundings - great video and very inspiring! What camera did you use to film this? The footage is really clear. Looking forward to the conclusion ... going there right now!!!

Funny, I actually thought I was lacking some enthusiasm but a little bit slipped through...lol. It's an older Panasonic HDC SD60...I if I recall correctly. Hope you like the end just as much!

It sure looks beautiful! I guess you can group me in with the die-hards. I like watching fellow hikers and backpackers on their adventures, and learning from their experiences. For instance, I didn't expect to see any ice left in Arizona at this time of year, but there it is, right on the ground! Also, were those birch trees or aspens towards the beginning of the hike? Because they sure looked like it, and I didn't know you could find those in Arizona. My max elevation so far was around 12,300 ft. out here in California, so I hear you on the elevation effect. It can seriously take a toll on you! Thanks for the window into hiking in Northern Arizona!
@Patriot36

MrPatagonicus Okay Patagonicus, you're officially a die-hard viewer here then! :) Really glad you enjoy the hiking and exploring vids. The remaining snow and ice is tied directly to May and June temperatures. We had a mild May and two weeks of a relatively mild June, which left a little bit of ice behind. Those are Aspen trees and are common the alpine area's of Flagstaff, with a large finger extending east to the state border. The North Rim also holds a good population and they can be found in other spotted areas of AZ, usually over 7500ft. Thanks for taking the time to watch!
@MrPatagonicus

Patriot36 Yeah, I had no idea you could find aspens that far south. If you keep posting videos like this, I just might have to take a backpacking trip out there in your neck of the woods!

Well, I guess you can group me in with the a "diehard" subs. I wouldn't miss a second of this one! Last year I started to trend towards hiking shoes over boots on certain trips. There still are some trips where you gotta go boots. Good call here on this one to go with your girlscout sneakers : ) Good on you to NOT check GPS continually from the onset. I have to practice that with some training runs so that I don't focus on the numbers and instead focus on the moment. Great smile there at the end, killer views!

CampfireTalk You're definitely a diehard bro. Great to talk to you on the phone today man and thanks for the tips on the trail food. I spent some time checking that out this afternoon. That smile came from a realization of thankfulness... thankful to have legs, lungs and a good friends like yourself! Yep, it's really what I was thinking too! It gave me a boost right when I really needed it.
