There was not a single issue with these stairs until they built fences around them. Tens of thousands of hikers have climbed them with one of the safest record of any hiking trail in the world. All they have to do is leave them as they are just like every other hike on Oahu. There is already ample parking at the top of the valley at the old abandoned Omega station. There wouldn't be an ounce of trespassing.

People are going to go to the top with or without the stairs. There is a "back door" trail to the top from both Aiea and Moanalua. Both hikes are VERY dangerous. The city just made a bad situation worse. But, when has the city ever done the smart thing?

it's money they government doesn't want to spend. I mean it is the same reason for why schools get closed down and torn down instead of made into say apartments to help get the homeless off the street. The government just doesn't care enough to spend money on anything that would actually help people in anyway. A few year back our city almost had no public pools open because the government didn't want to put out money to do so. If it wasn't for big business chains like say Mcdanolds we to this day wouldn't have any pools open.

You don’t need a bucket list, you need to live each day like it’s your last (within reason). I had a near death experience the week before my 30th, which was amazing, but what it taught me is that none of us are promised tomorrow, getting to old age is a privilege that’s not granted to all of us. Do what you can to do the things you want to do. But treat each day with gratitude even if it’s a shite day, because there is always things to be grateful for, especially spending time with your loved one’s. I hope you live a long life.

No thanks. I don’t want anyone else to be allowed to come on my property…just as I respect other people’s property and don’t go on it. We buy property for a reason…and that’s to have privacy….you can’t have privacy if strangers are allowed to just wander on your property. And true…some people will disobey laws and trespass anyway….but since it’s trespassing we can call the police and have them arrested and removed. If strangers are just allowed to go on other people’s property then what’s to stop them from saying they’re going to stay right where they are…in your yard…and not leave….there wouldn’t be anything to stop them from doing that if there are no laws to protect owners and their property. Plus…when someone owns property they are responsible for injuries that occur on that property….meaning that if some hiker gets injured while on your property…you can be sued by him to pay his hospital bills and such…but if he’s found to be trespassing then it would be harder for him to get money out of you.

It is a common occurrence in all places and at all times. Many individuals fail to show respect for resources, the environment, or local residents despite repeated warnings against trespassing, littering, or unauthorized parking. While most people comply with these regulations, it is the actions of a few selfish individuals that spoil things for the majority. These individuals, driven by their own self-interest, continue to disregard rules and regulations, perpetuating this unfortunate cycle of behavior.

@@dominysynclair well that works to an extent. You could say, residents who moved here before 2000. Here’s the explanation, if you can understand this. Imagine moving to a very unique and special place. But because of lack of knowledge about that place that can only be gained from experience. As much as you might not have a disrespectful attitude, it’s very hard to know everything that entails be respectful in this new, different place. The second factor is the problem with overcrowding and not respecting the acceptable number for an area. Similar to a sports field with way too many players trying to get in the game, or in this case a small tropical island. The limited amount of housing area and infrastructure, particularly roads has gone way beyond what it should be for the healthy growth of our island. We don’t need to turn in another polluted city.
